A large crowd attended the 30th Anniversary of the Peadar Cummins hurling final on Saturday May 24th, as Borrisileigh hosted the annual U14 tournament in honour of their great clubman. North Tipp faced the South in the final having disposed of Mid Tipp comprehensively on a score line of 3-10 to 0-8 in the semi. Playing in soft underfoot conditions, North Tipp, looking resplendent in their new kit recently sponsored by Slatterys Garage of Puckane, attacked from the throw in and it was obvious that they were going to be a force. After two mins, local man and captain Ray McCormack had a near goal miss as he burst through the Souths defence. Three minutes later Kildangan’s Brian McLoughney found the net straight from a free approx 30m out near the sideline. That score was to be the start of an avalanche as in the eight minute McLoughney netted again followed immediately by a point from Kilruane’s Sean McAdams. South Tipp never looked like scoring in the first half whilst Captain Ray McCormack and Stephen Kirwan added a few more points to leave the score 2-10 to 0-0 at half time.

Shortly after half time McLougney pointed again and but from a few brief attacks by the south which were by and large mopped up by fullback Evan Murphy, they never threatened. North Tipp then emptied the bench giving all subs a chance and went on to win 4-12 to 0-4. Well done to all involved including Manager Liam Hogan and his selectors James McGrath, David Moran and Shane Hodgins. This victory came on the back of our U15’s fine win in the Rodger Ryan Tournament recently which hopefully augurs well for the Norths representation on the County Minor panel in the imminent future.

The panel used included Mark O’Neill, Kevin McCarthy, Evan Murphy, Darragh Flannery, Sean Ryan, Oran Bergin, John McGrath,Conal Moran, Sean Spillane, Sean McAdams, Ray McCormack, Stephen Kirwan, Darragh Nolan,Brian McLoughney, Alvis Danko, Conor Grace, Conor O Brien, Daragh Kelvey, Jack Connolly, Cathal Ryan, Jack Ryan, AJ Willis, Darragh Tynan and Jack Boland.
