Ahead of this weekend’s FBD Insurance County Senior Hurling Championship Semi Finals – we look back to October 2018 when these same four clubs met at the Semi Final stage.
In the Senior Hurling Championship Semi Final on October 7th 2018, Nenagh Éire Óg defeated Thurles Sarsfields 2-18 to 2-15 ending Sarsfields’ drive for five-in-a-row. Éire Óg led 2-13 to 0-9 after 45 minutes before Sarsfields mounted a stirring fightback but Éire Óg held on for victory. Interestingly, this year’s managers Hugh Maloney (Nenagh Éire Óg) and Pádraic Maher (Thurles Sarsfields) both started at centre back for their respective sides that day.
The previous evening, Moycarkey Borris defeated JK Brackens 1-18 to 0-18 in the Séamus Ó Riain (now known as Premier Intermediate) Semi Final. Brackens made the better start, leading 0-5 to 0-1, but Moycarkey settled and led 1-13 to 0-9 at half time. Brackens fought their way back to within three points and had late goal chances, but Moycarkey held out.
Fast forward eight years – these four clubs go head to head once again in this weekend’s Semi Finals.
