2026 FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships
The Semi Finals across the Senior, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate and Junior ‘A’ grades along with the Junior ‘B’ Quarter Finals took place last weekend. In addition, the Senior, Premier Intermediate and Intermediate Hurling Relegation Finals also took place.
Senior Hurling Championship
Thurles Sarsfields booked their place in the FBD Insurance County Senior Hurling Championship Final after a 2-18 to 1-14 victory over Nenagh Éire Óg at FBD Semple Stadium last Saturday. Sarsfields led 0-10 to 0-9 at half time before an early Darragh Stakelum goal gave them an excellent start to the second half. They held a three to four point lead for much of the half before pulling away when Paddy Creedon found the net with five minutes remaining. Sam O’Farrell added a late consolation goal for Nenagh Éire Óg.

Sarsfields will be joined in the Final by their neighbours Moycarkey Borris who produced another strong finish to defeat JK Brackens in the second Semi Final last Sunday. Brackens led for much of the game and were 0-14 to 0-10 ahead at half time. A Joe Egan goal midway through the second half gave Moycarkey Borris renewed hope and with momentum behind them heading into the closing stages, Kieran Morris found the net as injury time approached to seal a dramatic victory. The win sends Moycarkey Borris into their first County Senior Hurling Final since 1984 setting up a hugely anticipated final between two neighbouring parishes.
The Final is fixed for Sunday 11th October at 4.00 pm in FBD Semple Stadium.
The County Senior Hurling Relegation Final also took place last Sunday with Roscrea preserving their senior status following a 2-18 to 0-19 victory over CJ Kickhams Mullinahone. A Roscrea goal shortly before half time helped them to a 1-12 to 0-11 interval lead before Alan Tynan added a second goal ten minutes into the second half. Roscrea held on to secure their place in the Senior Championship for 2027 while Mullinahone will compete in the Premier Intermediate Championship next year.
Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship
The FBD Insurance County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi Finals took place last Saturday and Sunday at FBD Semple Stadium with Killenaule and St Mary’s booking their places in the Final. Killenaule defeated Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill 0-20 to 1-15 after leading 0-10 to 0-5 at half time. Éire Óg rallied late and reduced the deficit with an Aidan Griffin goal but Killenaule held on to secure their place in the decider. St Mary’s completed an all South final after defeating Thurles Sarsfields 2-22 to 1-17. Cathal Deeley’s early goal gave St Mary’s a strong start while a Seánie Butler goal brought Sarsfields level early in the second half before St Mary’s regained control and sealed victory through a late Thomas Charles goal.
The Final is fixed for Sunday 11th October at 2.00 pm in FBD Semple Stadium.

There was heartbreak for Templederry Kenyons in the Premier Intermediate Relegation Final as Carrick Swan secured a dramatic 3-16 to 1-21 victory. Swan led by nine points at half time but Templederry produced a superb second half comeback to move two points ahead late on. Stefan Tobin’s second goal restored Swan’s lead before Templederry reclaimed the lead through a Sean Ryan goal. More drama was to come with a late Callum Lanigan goal in injury time finally settled a remarkable contest. The result preserves Carrick Swan’s Premier Intermediate status for 2027 while Templederry Kenyons will hurl at Intermediate level next year.
Intermediate Hurling Championship
The FBD Insurance County Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi Finals took place last Sunday with Ballingarry and Arravale Rovers booking their places in the Final. Ballingarry defeated Borrisokane 0-17 to 0-16 with the south side taking full advantage of a strong breeze to lead 0-11 to 0-4 at half time. Borrisokane gradually chipped away at the deficit in the second half and came within a point late on but Ballingarry held on to secure their place in the decider.
Arravale Rovers overcame Cappawhite in a thrilling second Semi Final. A Seán O’Mahoney goal for Arravale Rovers reduced their deficit before halftime with Cappawhite leading 1-10 to 0-16 at the interval. Rovers levelled the game early in the second half before the sides traded goals in a dramatic spell. Jayce Cilvinas put Rovers ahead five minutes into the half but Conor Martin quickly restored Cappawhite’s lead. Cilvinas struck again midway through the half to put Rovers three points clear only for two quick Darragh O’Hora goals to swing the game back in Cappawhite’s favour. Rovers finished strongly, however, scoring the final five points without reply to book their place in the Final.
The Final will take place on Saturday 10th October at 3.00 pm in Holycross.

The Intermediate Relegation Final saw Ballybacon Grange preserve their Intermediate status with a 0-20 to 1-14 victory over Clonoulty Rossmore. Clonoulty led 1-9 to 0-8 at half time but Ballybacon Grange took control after the break to produce an impressive second half performance and secure their place in the Intermediate Championship for 2027. Clonoulty Rossmore will compete in the Junior ‘A’ Championship next year.
Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship
The FBD Insurance County Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship Semi Finals took place last Sunday, with Lattin Cullen and Fethard booking their places in the Final. Lattin Cullen edged a great contest against St Patrick’s, winning 2-17 to 2-15 after the sides were level at half time. Lattin Cullen had opened up a five point lead late in the game following a goal but St Patrick’s responded with a late goal of their own but Lattin held out for victory.
Fethard defeated Galtee Rovers 1-16 to 1-9 in the second Semi Final. The sides were level at half time and remained deadlocked with just ten minutes remaining before Fethard produced a decisive late surge scoring 1-5 to 0-1 to secure victory.
The Final is fixed for Saturday 10th October at 1.00 pm in Boherlahan.
Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship
The FBD Insurance County Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship Quarter Finals took place last weekend. Newport defeated West champions Rosegreen 0-20 to 0-14 while Ballina overcame Golden Kilfeacle 1-17 to 0-13. Killea produced a high scoring performance to defeat Cahir 3-23 to 4-12 while Gortnahoe Glengoole prevailed in dramatic fashion against Clerihan after a penalty shoot out. The sides were level at 1-22 apiece after extra time before Gortnahoe Glengoole secured victory.
The Semi Finals will take place on Saturday 10th October with Newport facing Gortnahoe Glengoole at 2.30 pm in Drombane while Ballina take on Killea at 4.00 pm in Dolla.

2026 FBD Insurance County Football Championships
Attention now turns to the football championships in the coming days with the FBD Insurance County Football Championship Semi Finals taking place across the Senior, Intermediate, Premier Junior and Junior ‘A’ grades along with the various relegation fixtures and Junior ‘B’ Quarter Finals.
Senior Football Championship
In the Senior Semi Finals, South rivals Clonmel Commercials and Moyle Rovers will meet this Saturday 3rd at 3.45 pm in Kilsheelan. The sides last met in the County Championship at last year’s Quarter Final stage, when Commercials prevailed in a classic after extra time, winning 0-25 to 1-19. Loughmore Castleiney face Kilsheelan Kilcash on Sunday 4th at 3.45 pm in Dundrum. The sides also met at last year’s Semi Final stage, with holders Loughmore Castleiney seeing their title defence ended by Kilsheelan Kilcash who recorded a 1-14 to 2-9 victory. Both fixtures produced great encounters last year and there is every reason to expect another exciting weekend of Senior football.

In the Senior Relegation Final, Grangemockler Ballyneale meet Aherlow this Saturday 3rd at 4.00 pm in Ardfinnan. Grangemockler Ballyneale were in the Relegation Final last year, defeating Killenaule to retain their Senior status. Both sides will be determined to avoid a return to Intermediate football having each won that grade in recent years with Grangemockler Ballyneale claiming the title in 2023 and Aherlow in 2024.

In the Tom Cusack Cup, Ballina and Thurles Sarsfields have both withdrawn so the Final will be between Ballyporeen and Upperchurch Drombane. This will be fixed at the next county CCC meeting.
Intermediate Football Championship
The Intermediate Semi Finals will see divisional rivals meet, with both games taking place this Sunday 4th. At 2.00 pm in Dundrum, Rockwell Rovers take on GoldenKilfeacle while at 3.45 pm in Clonmel – Fethard face Killenaule. Both Fethard and Killenaule will go into the game on a high following their respective hurling successes last weekend. Clonmel Óg will face Moycarkey Borris in the Intermediate Relegation Final this Saturday 3rd at 1.45 pm in Fethard.
Premier Junior Football Championship
The Premier Junior Semi Final line up sees Fr Sheehy’s facing Carrick Swan on Saturday, 3rd at 2.00 pm in Kilsheelan. The second Semi Final takes place on Sunday 4th at 2.00 pm in Clonmel Sportsfield with Moyle Rovers facing CJ Kickhams Mullinahone. The Premier Junior Relegation Round 2 game takes place this Saturday 3rd at 2.30 pm in The Ragg, with Clonoulty Rossmore facing JK Brackens. Clonoulty Rossmore will be looking for a response having lost to Sean Treacys in Round 1 while JK Brackens will then face Sean Treacys in Round 3. The bottom two teams in the Relegation Play Off will play Junior football in 2027.
Junior ‘A’ Football Championship
Following Shannon Rovers’ Quarter Final victory over GoldenKilfeacle last Tuesday 22nd, the draw for the Semi Finals took place on Wednesday 23rd. Both Semi Finals take place this coming Sunday. Ballylooby Castlegrace face Cappawhite in New Inn at 4.00 pm while Shannon Rovers take on Boherlahan Dualla in Templemore at 2.00 pm.
Junior ‘B’ Football Championship
The Quarter Final stages of the County Junior ‘B’ Football Championship take place this coming weekend. The Mid Final takes place on Tuesday 29th September, after the time of going to print, with Upperchurch Drombane facing Thurles Gaels. The Mid champions will face Carrick Davins this Saturday 3rd at 3.30 pm in Fethard while the Mid runners up will take on Killenaule at 4.00 pm in Boherlahan. Portroe take on Solohead this Sunday 4th at 2.00 pm in Newport. West champions Rosegreen advance directly to the Semi Finals with the North just having one representative at this stage.

For this weekend’s games, supporters are reminded to check the Tipperary GAA website, app and social media channels for full fixture details and any updates. Supporters are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance through the Tipperary GAA website. Entry to all venues is by Tap & Go, but purchasing tickets beforehand will help avoid delays at the gate. Please allow extra time for parking and arrive early to ensure you are in place before throw-in. A number of games will also be streamed live on Clubber for those unable to attend. Minor Championships
Congratulations to Newcastle, who claimed the FBD Insurance County Minor ‘C’ Football title last Wednesday evening in Fethard Town Park following an 0-8 to 0-6 victory over St Patrick’s. Newcastle were the stronger side in the first half and led 0-3 to 0-0 at the interval before St Patrick’s mounted a strong second half comeback to level the game at 0-5 apiece. Newcastle responded with three points in succession to regain control and secure the title. Newcastle captain Adam Cullinan accepted the trophy following the game.

The FBD Insurance County Minor ‘A’ Hurling Final between Newport and St Mary’s will now take place on Tuesday 13th October at 7.45pm in FBD Semple Stadium while the Minor ‘B’ Hurling Final between Moyne Templetuohy/Loughmore Castleiney and Naomh Eoin will take place on Saturday 10th October at 2.00 pm in Templederry.
The business end of the Minor Football Championship is also approaching with both Minor ‘A’ Semi Finals taking place on Thursday 1st October at 8.00 pm following a change of date. Newport face Aherlow in Cappawhite while JK Brackens take on Moyle Rovers in Clonoulty. The Minor ‘B’ Semi Finals will also take place on Thursday 1st at 8.00pm with Moycarkey Borris facing Knockmealdown Gaels in Fethard Town Park and with Naomh Eoin facing Rockwell Rovers in Templetuohy.
Under 16 Hurling
The County Finals of the Under-16 Hurling Championship took place last weekend, with Toomevara claiming the ‘A’ title following an exciting 0-27 to 2-14 extra-time victory over Cashel King Cormacs. Cashel started strongly and led 2-5 to 0-6 at half-time, but Toomevara produced an excellent second-half performance to level the game at 0-18 to 2-12 at the end of normal time. Toomevara then pulled away in extra time to secure the County ‘A’ title. The County ‘B’ title also headed north with Moneygall emerging victorious over Arravale Rovers on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-12. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and mentors involved in both finals.

Under 12 Hurling
The Under 12 County Hurling Finals took place last weekend with congratulations to all four winners. JK Brackens completed a fantastic hurling and football Division 1 county title double, a magnificent achievement, defeating Cashel King Cormacs in the Hurling Final. Well done to Boherlahan Dualla who claimed the Division 2 title after defeating Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill while Templederry Kenyons were crowned Division 3 champions following their victory over Clerihan. Congratulations also to Toomevara who defeated Clonoulty Rossmore in the Division 4 final. Well done to all the players, coaches, mentors, clubs and families involved in another great weekend of underage hurling in Tipperary.

Youth Football Coaches Development Workshop
A Youth Football Coaches Development Workshop with Tipperary Senior Football Coach Conor McNally will take place on Wednesday 30th September from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm at the Abbey CBS Astro in Tipperary Town.

Concussion Education Course
The GAA, LGFA and Camogie Associations are making a free Concussion Education Course available to club members across the country, with one course taking place in each province during October and November. The interactive courses are aimed at non-medically-trained volunteers and will help participants recognise the main signs and symptoms of concussion while providing an understanding of the principles of concussion management, treatment and rehabilitation. The Munster course will take place at Munster GAA HQ, Limerick, on Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30 pm. The course is open to all club members, with those interested encouraged to register in advance. Positive Ageing Week takes place from Friday 25th September to Friday 2nd October. Look out for friends and relatives who may have retreated from life a bit for various reasons. We are asking both younger and older to make an effort to chat, salute or make a call to someone you haven’t being in touch with in a long time. Keep it simple you will be surprised how much you enjoy it.

Tipperary GAA would like to extend our sincere condolences to the Tuohy family and to everyone in Mayo GAA and Breaffy GAA, on the sad passing of Mayo GAA Chairperson, Seamus Tuohy. His commitment to Mayo GAA and to Gaelic games was evident throughout his years of service and he leaves behind a lasting legacy within the Association. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
