Tipperary Senior Hurlers
The hurlers will be out in action this coming Saturday 21st February at 5.30 pm in FBD Semple Stadium where they will take on Limerick in the fourth round of the league. The sides have met 67 times in the league with Tipperary holding the historical edge on 35 victories to 24 for Limerick along with eight draws. However, Limerick have had the better of the rivalry in recent years with Tipperary searching for their first league win over the Treaty County since 2018 when the Premier County recorded a dramatic 2-31 to 1-31 extra time victory in the Semi Final.

Tipperary Senior Footballers
The footballers returned to League action last Sunday in FBD Semple Stadium where they lost out to Carlow on a 1-17 to 1-14 scoreline. Tipperary had the aid of the wind in the first half and enjoyed the better of the opening period. A Steven O’Brien two pointer helped the home side settle into the game in the first ten minutes. Ross Dunphy fisted the ball to the net for Carlow to level the game in the 18th minute, making it 0-5 to 1-2. O’Brien produced another major moment on the 26th minute, catching the ball on the 21 yard line before blasting it to the net to push Tipperary four points clear with ten minutes left in the half. Tipperary’s second two pointer arrived on the 30th minute when Mark Stokes’ effort bounced over the bar. A free two pointer from Carlow just before half time left the score at 1-11 to 1-7 in Tipperary’s favour. Carlow dominated the third quarter outscoring Tipperary by six points without reply, with Tipperary not registering their first score of the half until the 18th minute. The damage done in this period proved decisive as Tipperary were unable to cut the deficit despite creating a number of chances. Tipperary reduced the margin to just one point with five minutes remaining but could not get any closer as Carlow finished strongly with two points to secure a three point victory.

Tipperary’s league campaign continues this Sunday 22nd February at 2.00pm when they face Longford in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. This will be the fourth consecutive year the sides have met in Division 4 with recent encounters proving extremely competitive. Tipperary have edged the last two meetings, winning by a single point last year and by two points the year before while the 2023 clash ended in a draw. Longford, however, enjoyed convincing victories in the rivalry, winning by seven points in 2021 and by five points in 2020.

Hard luck to The Abbey Tipperary footballers who lost out to Mount St Michael Rosscarbery last Friday in the Final of the TUS Corn Dhonncha Uí Nuanáin Under 19 ‘B’ Football Championship – final score was 0-8 to 0-7 in favour of the Cork side. A last gasp point proved heartbreaking for Abbey who started brightly and led by two points to nil before a tense low-scoring contest saw the sides level at 0-3 each by half time. Mount St Michael’s edged ahead in the closing quarter and led by two with ten minutes remaining, but Abbey showed great resolve to claw their way back and draw level in the dying stages. A well-finished point in injury time then secured the win for the Cork school.
Nenagh CBS and St Joseph’s Borrisoleigh will be out in action again on Saturday 7th March in the respective ‘A’ and ‘B’ All Ireland Under 19 Hurling Semi Finals.
Colleges Action
University of Limerick completed an outstanding Sigerson Cup and Fitzgibbon Cup double last week with strong Tipperary representation across both squads.
The footballers claimed the Sigerson Cup title last Wednesday defeating UCC in the Final. Congratulations to David Power (Kilsheelan Kilcash) who managed the side to victory and to the Tipperary players involved: Charlie King (Ballina), Daithí Hogan (St Patrick’s), Killian Butler (Moyle Rovers), James Morris (Clonmel Commercials), Jack O’Neill (Ardfinnan), Paddy O’Keeffe (Moyle Rovers) and Micheál Freaney (Kilsheelan Kilcash). Tommy Toomey (Arravale Rovers) played a key role as lead analyst with the team.
The hurlers followed up on Friday night by capturing the Fitzgibbon Cup defeating Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. Tipperary was again well represented by Darragh McCarthy (Toomevara), Conor Martin (Cappawhite), Aaron Morgan (Kilruane MacDonaghs), Oisín O’Donoghue (Cashel King Cormacs), Jamie Ormonde (JK Brackens) and Max Hackett (Moycarkey Borris). Shane McGrath (Ballinahinch) coached the side with Noel Ryan (Cappawhite) involved in strength and conditioning.
Jason Coffey (Ardfinnan) also played a significant role in UL’s success, serving as GAA Development Officer for the college during a memorable week of achievement.

Tipperary GAA Coaching and Games are hosting a Youth Coach Workshop focused on skill development through games based coaching. The workshop will feature guest coach on the morning, multiple All-Ireland winning coach Mikey Bevans. Warm up and speed development will also be covered by Tipperary Academy Athletic Development coaches. The workshop takes place on Saturday 28th February at 10.30am in Coolmore Morris Park. The cost is €20 per coach with tap and go or cash accepted.
Mick Frawley Under 15 Interdivisional Football Finals
It will be a busy day of football action next Saturday 21st February with the finals of the Mick Frawley Tournament taking place in Fethard Town Park. The Shield Final between North and West throws in at 10.00am while the Cup Final between Mid and South gets underway at 11.00am.

Noel Cosgrove Table Quiz
Marlfield GAA Club is hosting a table quiz in commemoration of Noel Cosgrave (RIP) on Thursday 26th February 2026 at 8 pm in Carey’s Pub, Irishtown. A table of four costs €20. A donation will be made to the Cancer Support Centre Clonmel. Raffle tickets will also be sold on the night. Tipperary Supporters Club Night at the Dogs
