Allianz Hurling and Football Leagues

FBD Semple Stadium played host to Tipperary’s Round 2 clash with Galway in the Allianz Hurling League, last Sunday afternoon and in front of a sizeable attendance Tipperary put in a very strong performance for the majority of the game that saw them come away with a well deserved 1-26 to 0-24 win. This victory now puts our senior hurlers in a strong position in the league and they will be hoping to cement their place in the knockout stages of the competition with a win over Westmeath on Saturday February 24th. Unfortunately, as is often the case in competitive games such as last Sunday, Tipperary picked up a number of injuries with Jake Morris and Bryan O’Mara both leaving the field with hamstring trouble, while Darragh Stakelum who was only on the field a matter of seconds picked up a hand injury. We wish all three players well and look forward to seeing them back in action in the not too distant future.
Our senior footballers will make the trip across the water to play London next Sunday afternoon at 1pm in McGovern Park, Ruislip in Round 3 of the Allianz Football League. Having secured a good win away from home against Longford in Round 2, Tipperary will be hoping to continue their winning ways against a formidable London side who can not be underestimated in any way especially on their home turf. Tipperary GAA will bring you live match updates from London on Sunday on our “X” platform in association with our match day social media partners Templetuohy Foods and the game will also be broadcast live on Tipp FM. The Tipperary team to play London will be announced on Friday evening at 9.15pm
February Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw
Tipperary GAA Clubs January Draw winner Tom Killackey, aka ‘The Bomber’ collected the keys of his brand-new Citroen Car on Friday night at The Clough Inn, Cloughjordan. The packed bar was full of friends celebrating Tom’s win when his name was first out of the drum last month in the January draw held in Ballingarry (South) and he told the story of how he was on his way home from Tullamore when he found out that he was the lucky star prize winner in the draw. This time around the top prize stayed in North Tipp once more as Michael Hanley of Toumalough Ballina was the star prize winner. He will collect a new car or a cash prize at next month’s draw. Second prize of €5,000 went to Joe Moore and Canice Sheeran of Knock GAA club. The €5,000 lotto was shared by Joe Loughnane from Newcastle and Tom Kelly, Loughmore Castleiney – while the well-known John “Saint” Stapleton of Borris Ileigh GAA won €2,000.

The February weekly Clubs Draw will be broadcast on Tipp GAA TV’s YouTube Channell and on the Tipperary GAA Facebook page at 9pm on Friday February 23rd while the March Monthly Draw will take place on Friday March 1st and will be hosted by the Portroe GAA Club. The draw will be broadcast live on Tipp FM at 9pm.
Munster Junior B Competitions
Tipperary had a very successful weekend in both the Munster Junior B Hurling and Football competitions last weekend as Drom & Inch claimed the hurling title while Shannon Rovers qualified for the final of the football competition. Well done to both clubs on two fine victories.
Club Officer Training
A Regional Workshop entitled “Creating an Effective Club Executive” for Club Officers will take place on Friday, February 16th at 7.00pm in Mallow GAA Complex, St. Joesph’s Road, Carrigoon, Mallow.
Each club is asked to send 3 members of their executive to this event.

Friends of Tipperary Football
The Friends of Tipperary Football held their AGM last Wednesday night, February 7th in the Muintir na Tire Hall in Littleton. On the night one of the main areas of concern that was referred to by a number of speakers was the around recruiting new committee members as the core group who do such fantastic work need more help. Clubs are asked to identify people from within their clubs who have an active interest in football and in particular people who may have a good knowledge and interest in the area of fundraising. Friends of Tipperary Football Chairman Michael Devlin also gave a commitment to explore the possibility of relaunching the Dublin branch of the friends in 2024 and again a call was made to anyone who may be residing in Dublin and who would like to get involved to come forward. Also at the meeting Anthony Shelly announced that he would be stepping down from the roles of Secretary / PRO, but before he did, Anthony presented a very comprehensive report which gave a detailed account of all football activities both on and off the field in 2023. Taking over from Anthony as Secretary will be Karol Cunniffe who is a native of Mayo now living in Annacarty, while Stephen Gleeson will take on the PRO’s role. Treasurer JJ Crowley who has been an ever present on the Friends of Tiopperary Football also announced that he would be stepping down from the position but as there was no other proposal for the position, JJ agreed to continue in the role on an interm basis until a replacement was elected at the next meeting.
Tipperary Supporters Club AGM
The Tipperary Supporters Club Annual General Meeting took place last Sunday 11th February in the Dome at FBD Semple Stadium after the Allianz Hurling League Game between Tipperary and Galway. On the night there were several changes in personnel at the top table as former County Board Chairman, Michael Bourke was elected to the role of Chairman. Michael will no doubt bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, and we wish him well for his term in the role. Also at the AGM, long serving PRO of the supporter’s club, John Coman who has done an excellent job in the role and has always been a pleasure to deal with, stood down and has been replaced by Newport native Michael Collins and we also wish Michael the best of luck going forward. County Board Chairman Jimmy Minogue and Senior Hurling Manager Liam Cahill were also in attendance and both men addressed the meeting, thanking the Supporters Club for all that they do in terms of fundraising for the Senior Hurlers and hurling in general in Tipperary. Liz Howard also addressed the meeting on behalf of the Tipperary Association in Dublin and as usual, Liz spoke eloquently about Tipperary GAA. Also on the night, Noel McGrath was presented with the Tipperary Supporters Club player of the year trophy for 2023 by John Quirke.
Tipperary Supporters Club Night at the Dogs 2024
Tipperary Supporters Club Night at the Dogs will take place in Thurles Greyhound Stadium on Saturday 24th February 2024 commencing at 6.30pm. All proceeds from the night will go towards Supporting the Tipperary Senior Hurling Team in 2024. Handball News
Another busy week for Handball with Congress going ahead in Croke Park and both Juveniles and Adults playing out the semi-final & finals in the Munster 40×20 Championships. Tipperary were well represented at Congress with the National Handball Delegate to the GAA Ken Conway & Delegates Pat O Flaherty, Martin Spain & Paddy Collins attending. Following Congress the 40×20 Senior Doubles Championship games followed and Tipperary’s Ger Coonan & Rory Grace were beaten by Kevin Diggins & Paul Moran Kildare 21/11, 21/13.
Our Juveniles were contesting the Munster Semi Finals V Cork and we had some very good results.

In the Adult Championships Martin Mc Inerney & Pat O Flaherty were beaten in the Munster Golden Masters A Doubles final by Thomas Donegan & Paul Hedderman 21/15, 21/8. Pat Slattery & David Kyne were beaten in the Munster GMBD Final by Seamus Ryan & M Kenneally Clare . In the JBD semi Final David & Bea Reilly were beaten by Glen Murray & Kevin O Callaghan Clare 21/17, 21/10.
With the Doubles Championship almost completed the Singles will commence over the next few weeks. The Doubles All-Ireland Semi Finals are fixed for the first Weekend in March.
