Munster Club Championship

Hard luck to both Tipperary clubs who were in action last weekend in the Munster club hurling championships. On Saturday Ballinahinch had to give way to Cork’s St Catherine’s in the Junior hurling semi final on a score of 2-17 to 0-11. Although there was only a point between the sides at the break, the Cork men scored two early second half goals to pull away and claim victory in the end. On Sunday in FBD Semple Stadium, our senior hurling champions Kiladangan welcomed Clare’s Clonlara to the field of legends for their semi final clash. Although there was a relatively small crowd in attendance, those who were there enjoyed a truly enthralling game between two fantastic sides. As the game entered the final moments it looked as if Kiladangan were going to reach the final, however Clonlara scored two late points to secure the win on a full time score of 0-23 to 1-19. Tipperary was also well represented on the officiating side of things last weekend as Shannon Rovers man Alan Tierney took charge of the Munster club junior hurling semi final clash of Feenagh/Kilmeedy (Limerick) and The Banner (Clare) and on Sunday Newcastle man Michael Kennedy refereed the second senior hurling semi final between Na Piarsaigh and Ballygunner.

This coming weekend Tipperary senior football champions Clonmel Commercials will welcome Kerry side Dingle to FBD Semple Stadium for their senior football semi final clash. The game has a 1.30pm throw in and with a large attendance expected to travel from the kingdom, supporters are reminded to purchase tickets online before arriving at the venue. As always Munster GAA will not be accepting cash at the turnstiles.

Again next weekend Tipperary will have a number of referees in action in the Munster club championships as Ardfinnan man Derek O’Mahony will be in charge of the intermediate semi final between Milltown- Castlemaine and Cill na Martra . Also on Sunday, Clonmel man Sean Lonergan Moyle Rovers will referee the second senior football semi final between Rathgormack and Castlehaven.

All Ireland Scór Sinsear Final

As the dust settles on last weekends All Ireland Final, Scór Thiobraid Árann would like to pay a huge word of thanks to our three wonderful representatives. Newport began the day with the Tráth Na gCeist and in what was a very close and good quiz finished a fantastic joint 9th. Our thanks to the four quizzers of Paraic, Anna, James and Rosemary for all their work this year!
Borrisoleighs Katie Shanahan was the first Tipperary representative on the main stage and in what turned to be a fantastic competition, Katie came up just short with her beautiful rendition of ‘Lovely Derry’. Our thanks must go to Katie and the way she represented Club, County and Province with pride.
Our final act of the day was our ballad group from Newport. In what was probably one of the hardest competitions to judge, they gave a fantastic display once again at the national finals. Our thanks to Anthony, Paraic, Siobhan, Michelle and Teresa for all the work they put into Scór.
Well done to all the winners yesterday and our provincial counterparts in Cork, Kerry and Limerick who picked up well deserved All Ireland Titles

Co Final Primary Schools GAA Table Quiz 2023

The Co. Final of the 2023 GAA Primary Schools Table Quiz was held in the Dome at Semple Stadium on Sunday night 19th November 2023. The winners were Gael Scoil Cluain Meala, Second Scoil Ailbe Thurles, Third St. Columcilles Templemore, Fourth Gael Scoil Aonach Urmhuan Nenagh and Fifth Newport. We thank Centenary Thurles Co Op for their generous sponsorship of the prizes which were presented to the winning teams by Co. Chairman Joe Kennedy and Joe Kerrigan Manager, Centenary Thurles Co Op. Thanks to all schools who participated and to the teachers and parents who helped the teams prepare for the divisional and Co. Finals.

Thurles Fresh Milk Santa Dash and Visit Santa at The Dome

On Sunday December 3rd, 2023, Tipperary GAA will hold the inaugural Thurles Fresh Milk 6K Santa dash which promises to be a fun filled day for all the family. The run commences from The Dome at FBD Semple Stadium at 11.30am, with registration for the event from 10.30am. Tickets can be pre purchased via the Tipperary GAA website events section.

Santa will also be in his grotto at the Dome from 12pm on the day and is really looking forward to meeting all the boys and girls. Admission to Santa’s Grotto is €10 and tickets can be purchased in advance via the Tipperary GAA website events section. Places are limited so make sure to book in advance.

Following the 6K run there will be lots of sporty festive fun in the dome, as there will be interviews with past and present legends on stage. All our intercounty players will be in attendance and available for chats and photos. We will also have lots of good music with our DJ as well as Christmas Carols.

All funds raised on the day will go towards our underage hurling and football county teams, so please do come along on the day and support all our underage players while having lots of fun in the process.

Become a GAA Coach

To create a coaching system which produces and supports the development of coaches and players at all stages of development, the GAA has revised its Coach Education Programme to take account of the different playing capacities that exist between children (up to 11 years), youths (age 12 – 17) and adults (age 18+), and the competencies that a coach is required to display when working with each of these playing populations. These streams have been identified to cater for the diverse needs of children, of youths and of adults as established in the Player Pathway.

The aim of the GAA Coach Education Programme is to ensure that all players and teams are coached by a person qualified to the appropriate level who can enable them to achieve their full potential.

The programme provides the opportunity for coaches to specialise in catering for the particular needs of Child, Youth and Adult players as they strive towards Total Playing Performance (TPP). It recognises that they will be best qualified to do so when using a games-based approach to training and development and when they have the required level of management and leadership capability, developed through a process of experience and reflection.

The Coach 10 Model identifies the Motivational & Vocational Attributes which combine to drive this process and create an environment within which Coaching and Communication Inputs produce a Cohesive Team within a context of individual and collective well-being.

The programme is grounded in the Association values of Community Identity, Amateur Status, Inclusiveness, Respect, Player Welfare and Teamwork.

Applied Lifelong Learning

The Coach Education Programme focuses on continuing education, so that coaches can improve by means of a series of specifically designed courses, workshops and conferences incorporating internationally recognised principles of best practice. The principle of Applied Lifelong Learning makes provision for coaches to continually develop their skills and to progress at a rate suited to their own development.
