2023 Munster Senior Football Championship.
Having overcome Waterford in the Quarter Final, our senior footballers hit the road this Saturday afternoon as they head to Fitzgearld stadium in Killarney to play Kerry in this years semi final at 4pm. There is no hiding the fact that this will be a very big test for David Powers side who will be hoping to build on their opening performance and use the game as good preparation for the Tailteann cup. Tickets for the game can now be purchased from the ticket section of the GAA website as well as in selected Centra and Supervalu stores, the game will also be broadcast live on the GAAGO platform.
2023 Munster Senior Hurling Championship
The eagerly awaited Munster senior hurling championship gets underway this weekend and our senior hurlers will be heading for Cusack Park in Ennis where they will take on Clare at 4pm on Sunday afternoon in what is expected to be a very tough game of Liam Cahill’s charges. Having played well in the league, the players will know that they will need to bring their performance levels to the next level for the championship. There have been fifty six previous championship meetings between the counties. Tipperary won thirty eight games to Clare’s fourteen, with four draws. The last six games resulted as follows -2011 in Limerick, Tipperary 4.19 Clare 1.19 ( Munster semi final), 2017 in Cork, Tipperary 0.28 Clare 3.16 (All Irl quarter final), 2018 in Thurles, Clare 1.23 Tipp 1.21 (Round robin), 2019 in Ennis, Tipperary 3.21 Clare 0.17 (Round robin), 2021 in Limerick, Tipperary 3.23 ,Clare 2.22 (Munster semi final) and 2022 in Thurles ,Clare 3.21 Tipperary 2.16 (Round robin). Munster Under 20 Hurling Championship Round 4
Our under 20 hurlers will welcome Limerick to FBD Semple Stadium this Friday evening for what is a must win game having recorded just one league point in the first two rounds by virtue of a draw against Clare. To their credit and indeed the credit of the team management, the players have prepared really well and hopefully with a little bit of luck they will get the results they need in the last two rounds to secure a place in the knockout stages of the championship.
Munster Minor Hurling Championship
Our Minor hurlers will have played their Round 4 game against Limerick at this stage and hopefully will have got the result they need to keep their championship hopes alive as they look towards the last round and a home tie against Waterford in FBD Semple Stadium on April 25th.
Munster Minor Football Championship
The Tipperary minor footballers recorded a fine 1-11 to 0-07 win over Limerick in Rathkeale on Thursday evening last, April 13th. This clash saw Tipperary dominate the possession, and the scoring early on. Indeed, by the time Limerick found a first white flag on 19 minutes, no fewer than five Tipperary men had put their name on the scoresheet. The game was ended as a contest on 49 minutes. A turn-over inside the Limerick 45m line saw the ball fed to the towering O’Brien who made no mistake in burying to the net. Tipperary were impressive, though seven second half wides, including a number of poor efforts, will give them something to work on. They won this Phase 1 competition 12 months ago, before losing to Cork in the semi-final. Next up for our young guns is a clash with Waterford which takes place in FBD Semple Stadium this Thursday April 20th at 7pm.
Official opening of Pairc na nEalaí
Carrick Swan Hurling, Football & Camogie Club will officially open their new facilities at Pairc na nEalaí in Carrick on Suir on Sunday April 30th at 11.30am when the President of the GAA Larry McCarthy will cut the ribbon on what can only be described as a state of the art development that is a credit to all those who have been involved in bringing the project to fruition. After the formalities are completed, the club will have food and light refreshments in the marquees on site and it is hoped that a big crowd will attend on the day. The club has extended an open invitation to the clubs of the county to come along on the day and celebrate with them.
Best wishes Fergal
I extend good wishes and appreciation to Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams clubman Fergal Horgan who has decided to call it a day as a referee. Fergal represented his club and county with distinction throughout his time as a referee and to his credit he added to every game he refereed in a very positive way. He refereed the game in a very firm but fair way and was never afraid to let things flow. In a time where the availability and recruitment of referees is becoming more and more difficult, Fergal’s absence will be felt across the various levels he has excelled in as a referee. We thank him for his immense contribution and wish him well into the future.
Munster Scór Na nÓg Final
What a day of entertainment we were all treated to in Ovens Co Cork for the 50th anniversary of Scór Na nÓg last Saturday. The premier county were well represented on the day and our thanks must go to all the clubs who have worked so hard this years to get to this stage. When the results were called the Premier emerged with two Munster Trophies to their name. Our wonderful figure dancers from Newcastle retained their Munster Trophy with a fabulous figure. Well done to the girls and their coach Kathy McGrath. Our second Munster Trophy went to young Daithi Kennedy from the Templederry Kenyons GAA Club. Daithi’s performance of a cross eyed Monaghan hurler was outstanding and brought the house down, Well done Daithí. Congratulations also to the Newport Quiz team who have qualified for the All Ireland Final having finished third in a tough quiz today. Well done folks. Although success may have eluded Tilda Geraghty (Solo Singing), our Upperchurch Drombane Novelty and Music Groups as well as our JK Brackens Set Dancers they have done their families, clubs and county proud on what was a very high standard of competition today. Our three acts now go forward to the All Ireland Final in the INEC Killarney on Saturday May 6th.
