Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Notes – 13th October 2014

LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION 40th ANNIVERSARY
As part of the Tipperary Ladies Football 40th Anniversary celebrations the 1974 & 1975 Tipperary All Ireland winning teams will be celebrated in the Horse & Jockey Hotel on Saturday October 18th. Tipperary played a pivotal role in the birth of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. On July 18th, 1974 a meeting was held in Hayes Hotel with a number of counties from around Ireland present and the association was formed. Clonmel man, Jim Kennedy was elected the first President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association.

The first Championship in 1974 had eight counties in it, Roscommon, Laois, Galway, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Offaly and Tipperary. Tipperary claimed the first ever title when they defeated Offaly on a score line of 2-3 to 2-2. Agnes O’Gorman, losing captain presented the winning captain, Kitty Ryan with the Brendan Martin Cup. Jim Kennedy also, had the pleasure of managing the first All Ireland winning team. Biddy Ryan, current treasurer of Tipperary Ladies Football was Secretary of Tipperary Ladies Football in 1974 and was instrumental in organising a lot of the people to achieve their success both on and off the field.

The 2013 All Ireland Runner up team will also, be presented with their medals on the night.

MUNSTER YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Congratulations to Aishling Moloney, Cahir who was named the Munster Young Player of the Year for 2014. Aishling is a member of the Tipperary Ladies Football Under16 and Minor Teams who both claimed All Ireland victories in August 2014. Aishling is also, a member of her school’s, Colaiste dun Iascaigh, team who competed in the Tesco Homegrown All Ireland Post Primary Schools Competition. Aishling is a very talented player and we wish her the very best.

JOHN DONOVAN CUP
Tipperary Ladies Football have announced details of the John Donovan Cup. It will be an Under 21 7-a-side Blitz on Sunday November 16th. The panel of players is to have a maximum panel of twelve and all players must be aged between 15 and 21 years (born between 1993 and 1999) in order to take part.

The entry form for the Tipperary LGFA Under21 Club Blitz is available on the website, www.tipperaryladiesfootball.ie Closing date for entries is Friday, October 17th. The attached entry form along with a €100 cheque must be sent to County Board Treasurer Biddy Ryan, Carrigataha, Cahir, Co. Tipperary. €50 will be returned to clubs once they have participated on the day.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS LADIES FOOTBALL COACHING PROGRAMME
Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football are re-introducing its Primary Schools Ladies Football Coaching Programme again for the 2014/15 Academic School year. The programme is run in conjunction with the club and the County Board, each providing 6 weeks coaching to the school. The coaching is provided by Derry Peters and any clubs interested in getting involved can contact Derry or the County Board. Closing date is Friday, October 17th.

GAELIC4MOTHERS & OTHERS NATIONAL BLITZ
Best wishes to all Tipperary Gaelic4Mothers & Others Clubs who are travelling to Portmarnock, Dublin to take part in the National Blitz on Saturday, October 18th. This is a non-competitive blitz and provides a great opportunity for clubs to meet other clubs. For details of Tipperary’s Gaelic4Mothers & Others Clubs check out www.tipperaryladiesfootball.ie

FUNDAMENTALS COURSE
Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Association will be running a fundamentals coaching course on November 15th at a venue to be confirmed. This is a 1 day course and is 6 hours long. It is the first step for anybody who wants to get involved in coaching or anybody who might want to progress up through the ranks. The course includes a mix of theory and practical and the coaches will get a resource pack at the end of the course.
Individuals interested in the course must be over the age of 16. There is €20 charge which can be paid on the day. There is a requirement of 20 and maximum of 30 to run the course.
