Glamour senior club football and hurling double-header to mark 90th anniversary of Kilsheelan/Kilcash GAA club

South Tipperary GAA club Kilsheelan/Kilcash will celebrate 90 years in existence on Sunday, August 3, by hosting a hugely attractive senior club football and hurling double-header at the club’s grounds.

Stradbally, Waterford champions on 17 occasions, will play Kilsheelan/Kilcash at 5.45pm in a senior football challenge before Tipperary and Kilkenny’s standard bearers lock horns in the hurling match at 7.30pm.

Tipperary kingpins Loughmore-Castleiney, who won an historic senior hurling and football double last year, take on Clara, who won just their second Kilkenny senior hurling crown in 2013.

The entry fee for both games is just €5, with all contributions going towards the Kilsheelan/Kilcash senior and juvenile clubs. A souvenir programme to commemorate the occasion will be available, priced at €2.

The evening will also feature mini-matches showcasing the very best of talent from our juvenile section.

Kilsheelan/Kilcash GAA club chairman David Power commented: “On behalf of Kilsheelan/Kilcash GAA club, it gives me great pleasure to welcome our three visiting teams – namely Stradbally, Clara and Loughmore-Castleiney, who have generously agreed to join us as we celebrate 90 years in existence. We are looking forward to a superb evening of entertainment on this Bank Holiday weekend.”

Stradbally senior football team manager Stephen Cunningham added: “We are delighted to be part of the Kilsheelan/Kilcash celebrations. We congratulate all of the club’s past and present officers, mentors, players and members for contributing to and helping Kilsheelan/Kilcash to become the thriving and vibrant club that it is today.”

On behalf of Kilkenny senior club hurling champions Clara, former county star Conor Phelan commented: “It is a great honour for our club Clara to visit Kilsheelan/Kilcash GAA club for this evening’s celebrations. We were extremely humbled to receive the invitation and we look forward to pitting our wits against the Tipperary champions Loughmore-Castleiney. We would also like to wish Kilsheelan/Kilcash GAA club the very best of luck in the future.”

Declan Laffan, team manager of Loughmore-Castleiney, the 2013 Tipperary senior club football and hurling champions, added: “As county champions in both senior football and senior hurling, we are well aware of the wonderful work that has been undertaken and will continue to be undertaken by all of the wonderful volunteers associated with Kilsheelan/Kilcash GAA club. It is a club steeped in tradition and we are relishing the prospect of playing Clara at this excellent facility.”
