West Junior B Hurling Championship:
The 24th Tipperary Co-Op West Junior B Hurling final goes ahead this Saturday October 23rd in Golden at 3pm. It has a novel feeling about it as it is a repeat of the very first Junior B division final in 1993 between Arravale Rovers and Cashel King Cormacs. On that day Cashel King Cormacs had three points to spare over Arravale Rovers.

The 1993 final was played in Cashel on October 17th. Cashel leading at the interval 1-6 to 1-2 with William Harding getting the Cashel goal. A Seamus Foley goal following a scoreless 3rd quarter had Cashel heading for a comprehensive victory. Their lead was down to five points with two minutes to go, before Pat Corcoran netted for Arravale Rovers to ensure a frantic finish. Timmy Moloney pointed to seal victory for Cashel King Cormacs. William Harding collected the inaugural West Junior B Hurling trophy on behalf of Cashel King Cormacs.

This will be the first meeting of the sides in a final since that day. Cashel King Cormacs will be playing in their 9th final. They have won the competition on four previous occasions, the last in 2008. Their last appearance in the final was in 2013 when they were defeated by Golden/Kilfeacle after a replay. Cashel King Cormacs finished second in their group, their only defeat coming against group winners Solohead. They defeated Golden/K and Cappawhite and received a walkover from Clonoulty/Rossmore. They defeated Sean Treacys in the quarter finals and received a walkover from Galtee Rovers in the semi-final.

Arravale Rovers will be playing in their 4th final and will be looking to add to their maiden title of 2011 which was also their last appearance in the final. Arravale Rovers recovered from an opening round defeat to Galtee Rovers to defeat both Rosegreen and Sean Treacys finishing second in their group. They defeated Cappawhite in the quarter finals and accounted for Solohead in the semi-final.

The winners will play Upperchurch/Drombane in this year’s Tipperary Water County Junior B Hurling semi-final. Upperchurch/Drombane defeated Gortnahoe/Glengoole in the Mid Junior B Hurling final on Saturday last.

County Minor Hurling Championship:
What a seven days it has been for Cashel King Cormacs. Having won the County Minor B football title seven days previous, last Saturday they went in search of the Hurling equivalent and a unique double. Congratulations to Cashel King Cormacs on a magnificent success defeating the combination of Skeheenarinky/Clonmel Og in the final of the Tipperary Water County Minor B Hurling championship in New Inn. They are the second West team in four years to bring the Broderick Cup back to the West following Arravale Rovers success in 2012.

County Hurling Final Day:
Cashel King Cormacs the 1991 County Senior Hurling champions were honoured at County Hurling Final day in Semple Stadium on Sunday last. Photos

The 1991 final played on November 10th in Semple Stadium against Holycross/Ballycahill which was a repeat of the 1990 decider which Holycross/B had won. The Mid side lead at the interval 1-4 to 0-4. It would be a tight third quarter before the late Jamesie O’Donoghue set up Tommy Grogan for a Cashel goal to put them 2 points up. Michael Doyle reduced the deficit to a single point and the game would remain in the balance until Cormac Bonnar hammered home a clinching goal at the end to give Cashel King Cormacs a victory on a score-line of 2-8 to 1-5.
Colm Bonnar mounted the steps and received the trophy on the day from another West man County Board Chairman Mick Maguire. Raymie Ryan received the man of the match award on the day.

Cashel would go on to defeat Clarecastle in the Munster semi-final a week later on a score-line of 3-11 to 2-4. On December 8th 1991in Mitchelstown they came up against Midleton of Cork in the Munster final. Cashel lead 0-5 to 0-2 at the interval and held on to that initiative in the second half winning 0-9 to 0-6. The journey continued into 1992 when they travelled to London for a quarter final victory over Sean Treacys. It was a game Cashel would win comfortably 0-23 to 0-6.

The semi-final of the All Ireland Club championship would pit Cashel King Cormacs up against Kiltormer of Galway in what would turn out to be a three game trilogy. Unfortunately for Cashel they would bow out at this stage. Kiltormer would go on to defeat Birr in the All Ireland Club Final.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship:
West interest in the Tipperary Water County Intermediate Hurling championship has ended for 2016 following Lattin/Cullen Gaels and Sean Treacys defeats at the semi-final stage of the competition to Newport and Thurles Sarsfields respectively in Dundrum on Saturday. The final between Newport and Thurles Sarsfields will take place in Dundrum this Sunday October 23rd at 2.30pm in Dundrum.

County Senior Football Championship:
Both Arravale Rovers and Galtee Rovers bowed out of the Tipperary Water Senior Football Championship at the weekend following defeats to Clonmel Commercials and Loughmore/Castleiney respectively. First half leads built up by their respective opponents were the foundation that would see them through to this year’s semi-finals.

The final quarter final of this year’s Tipperary Water County Senior Football championship takes place this Wednesday evening October 19th as Aherlow Gaels take on Moyle Rovers in Ballyporeen at 8pm. It will be the second meeting of the sides this year. When the sides met back in the group stages in April Aherlow Gaels enjoyed a slender one point victory, 0-10 to 0-9. Should Aherlow Gaels win they will play Kilsheelan/Kilcash in this year’s County semi-final in Cahir at 2.30pm on Sunday 23rd October.

County Intermediate Football Championship:
Golden/Kilfeacle booked their place in the Tipperary Water County Intermediate Football Final with victory over Fr Sheehy’s on Saturday last in Cashel.

Golden/Kilfeacle will now play Fethard in this year’s County Final this Sunday October 23rd at 1pm in Cashel. Extra-time will be played in the event of a draw.

Golden/Kilfeacle will be aiming to make it back to back County final successes following last year’s County Junior A success. James McCarthy will be looking to become the first Golden/Kilfeacle man to collect the Barrett Cup on behalf of his team mates since 1982 when Liam Walsh captained Golden/Kilfeacle to their only County Intermediate Football title. On a bitterly cold mid-November day, Golden/Kilfeacle defeated Borrisokane in Boherlahan. Trailing by two points at the interval having played with the wind, Golden/Kilfeacle appeared to be in trouble. Early second half goals from Eoin Ryan and Tom O’Donnell though, paved the way for an historic victory following on from their County Junior success 1979.

Arravale Rovers captained by Andy Lacey were the last West team to capture the Intermediate title. The County Intermediate Football championship trophy has resided in the West on 11 previous occasions:
Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams 2002, 1996
Arravale Rovers 2007
Eire Og Annacarty Donohill 2001
Aherlow 1995
Cappawhite 1990
Lattin/Cullen 1989
Rockwell Rovers 1987
Clonoulty/Rossmore 1986
Emly 1983
Golden/Kilfeacle 1982

County Junior A Football Championship:
The first of this year’s Tipperary Water County Junior A Football championship quarter finals takes place this Wednesday October 19th at 7.30pm in Dr. Morris Park. West finalists Clonoulty/Rossmore will take on Mid champions Gortnahoe/Glengoole for a place in this year’s semi-finals. Extra-time will be played in the event of a draw.

West champions Sean Treacys will play Loughmore/Castleiney in their quarter final this Saturday October 22nd at 2.30pm in Clonoulty. Extra-time will be played in the event of a draw.

County Junior B Football Championship:
West champions Arravale Rovers will play Boherlahan Dualla in the semi-final of the Tipperary Water County Junior B Football championship. Boherlahan Dualla defeated Moyne/Templetuohy in the Mid Final on Sunday last.

County Senior Hurling Relegation:
On Saturday Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams ensured their Senior status for 2017 when they finished all square with Silvermines in Templemore. Silvermines top the group on 5 points with Kickhams second on 4 points. The result means Moyne/Templetuohy will join Moneygall in relegation to the Intermediate Hurling ranks for 2017.

County Intermediate Hurling Relegation:
The County Intermediate hurling relegation will continue on Saturday week October 29th when Arravale Rovers take on Rockwell Rovers.
