2026 FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships
A big weekend of action took place in the FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships last weekend with the group stages concluding across all three grades and plenty of talking points along the way.
Senior
Group 1: Thurles Sarsfields secured top spot following a nine point victory over Kilruane MacDonaghs whose season is now over after finishing third. Holycross Ballycahill claimed second place after an impressive second half display saw them overcome Upperchurch Drombane who finish bottom and now face a Relegation Semi Final.
Group 2: Moycarkey Borris finished first after a three point victory over Borris-Ileigh. Loughmore Castleiney also recorded a three point win defeating Clonoulty Rossmore in the other fixture. That left Borris-Ileigh, Loughmore Castleiney and Clonoulty Rossmore level on three points. With three teams tied, the score difference from the games involving those three sides was used as the separator (excluding their matches against Moycarkey Borris). Therefore Borris-Ileigh finished second on +1, Loughmore Castleiney third on 0 while Clonoulty Rossmore ended fourth on -1. North champions Borris- Ileigh join Moycarkey Borris in the Quarter Finals. Loughmore Castleiney, as Mid champions, advance to the Preliminary Quarter Finals while West champions Clonoulty Rossmore also enter that round but will also face a Relegation Semi Final unless they go on to win the a County title.
Group 3: Cashel King Cormacs topped the section with three wins from three after overcoming Roscrea. Kiladangan secured second place with victory over Drom & Inch. Roscrea now enter the Relegation Semi Final.
Group 4: JK Brackens finished with a 100% record after a 3-23 to 0-26 victory over CJ Kickhams Mullinahone. There had been some confusion surrounding the final scoreline but this was rectified on Monday following a correction to the result. Nenagh Éire Óg recorded a comfortable win over neighbours Toomevara to claim second place. Toomevara finish third, ahead of CJ Kickhams Mullinahone on score difference with the South champions now entering the Relegation Semi Final.
The draw for the Preliminary Quarter Finals took place at a CCC meeting last Monday night with West champions Clonoulty Rossmore drawn against Nenagh Éire Óg while Mid champions Loughmore Castleiney face Holycross Ballycahill. The latter is a repeat of this year’s Mid Senior Hurling Final which Loughmore Castleiney won after extra time. The Preliminary Quarter Finals will take place on Saturday September 5th and Sunday September 6th.

Seeded: Thurles Sarsfields, Moycarkey Borris, Cashel King Cormacs, JK Brackens
Unseeded: Borris-Ileigh, Kiladangan
The draw for the Relegation Semi Finals has been delayed. Clonoulty Rossmore could avoid the relegation battle if they go on to win the county title. If they do not, they will enter the relegation battle alongside Upperchurch Drombane, Roscrea and CJ Kickhams Mullinahone.
Premier Intermediate
Group 1: There was plenty of late drama as a last minute goal from Sean Treacys’ Cillian Kennedy secured victory over Gortnahoe Glengoole and second place for his side. Moyne Templetuohy drew with Silvermines to finish top of the group. Silvermines, as North champions, advance to the Preliminary Quarter Finals and will avoid the relegation battle if they go on to win the County title.
Group 2: St Mary’s got the better of Thurles Sarsfields to secure second place. Killenaule top the group while Carrick Swan face a Relegation Semi Final. Third placed Thurles Sarsfields, as Mid champions, advance to the Preliminary Quarter Finals.
Group 3: Lorrha Dorrha finished top on five points after drawing with bottom side Templederry Kenyons who now enter the Relegation Semi Final. Moneygall claimed second place with victory over Burgess whose season is now over.
Group 4: Golden Kilfeacle topped the group after defeating West rivals Éire Óg Annacarty who finish third but progress to the Preliminary Quarter Finals as West champions. Boherlahan Dualla secured second place while Ballina face a Relegation Semi Final.
The draw for the Preliminary Quarter Finals took place at a CCC meeting last Monday night. Intermediate
Group 1: Kilsheelan Kilcash continued their excellent form defeating Knockavilla Kickhams to make it three wins from three and secure top spot. Portroe finished second following a big victory over Clonoulty Rossmore who now enter the Relegation Semi Final.

Group 2: Already confirmed at the foot of the table, Carrick Davins signed off the group stages with an impressive victory over Arravale Rovers who had already secured top spot before the final round. Clonakenny claimed second place with a win over Shannon Rovers.
Group 3: Ballingarry completed a perfect group stage with victory over Holycross Ballycahill who now face a Relegation Semi Final. Cappawhite secured second place after overcoming Skeheenarinky who have a Preliminary Quarter Final to look forward to as South champions.
Group 4: Borrisokane finished top with six points after defeating Ballybacon Grange who now face a Relegation Semi Final. Newport secured second place with victory over Moyle Rovers.
In the Intermediate Preliminary Quarter Final – South champions Skeheenarinky face Newport on Sunday September 6th.
The winner of this game will join the following teams in the Quarter Finals which take place on the weekend of Saturday September 12th:
Seeded: Kilsheelan Kilcash, Arravale Rovers, Ballingarry, Borrisokane
Unseeded: Portroe, Clonakenny, Cappawhite
The Intermediate Relegation Semi Finals will take place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September and sees Holycross Ballycahill face Ballybacon Grange and Clonoulty Rossmore take on Carrick Davins.
2026 FBD Insurance County Football Championships
Round 3 of the FBD Insurance County Football Championships takes place over the coming days with the final round of group games set to determine the knockout and relegation positions across all three grades.
Senior Football
Group 1: Clonmel Commercials have already secured their knockout spot and take on Aherlow who have confirmed a bottom place finish and will now face into the relegation play off. In the other game, it is winner takes all as Ardfinnan and Ballina battle it out for second place.
Group 2: Ballyporeen will face into the relegation battle and take on Kilsheelan Kilcash in Round 3 with Kilsheelan Kilcash guaranteed a knockout spot. In the other game the winner of Thurles Sarsfields v JK Brackens will secure second place.
Group 3: Moyle Rovers have already secured a knockout spot and will be joined by the winners of Loughmore Castleiney v Upperchurch Drombane. Moyle Rovers face Grangemockler Ballyneale who will contest the relegation play off.
Upperchurch Drombane v Loughmore Castleiney is one of many key games across the grades in the coming days as Round 3 of the FBD Insurance County Football Championships gets underway.
Championship Format: The top two teams in each of the three groups will qualify for the knockout stages. The two best group winners will advance directly to the Semi Finals, while the remaining group winner will join the three group runners up in the Quarter Finals. At the bottom of the groups, the three bottom placed teams will contest the relegation series. The lowest ranked of the three teams after the three round robin games will go directly to the Relegation Final while the other two teams will meet in a Relegation Semi Final.
Intermediate Football
Group 1: Rockwell Rovers face Fethard in Round 3 while Cahir take on Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill. Éire Óg need a win to avoid the relegation play off. Rockwell Rovers are guaranteed a top two finish but their final position will depend on the results. Fethard and Cahir are battling it out for the remaining knockout spot.
Group 2: Killenaule have already guaranteed top spot and face Clonmel Óg who will contest the relegation play off. In the other game, Moyne Templetuohy and Clonmel Commercials will battle it out for second place.
Group 3: The most competitive group sees Arravale Rovers and Golden Kilfeacle level on three points with Galtee Rovers just behind on two points. Moycarkey Borris are bottom without a point and face the relegation play off. In Round 3, Moycarkey Borris face Golden Kilfeacle while Arravale Rovers take on Galtee Rovers.
Championship Format: The top two teams in each of the three groups will qualify for the knockout stages. The two best group winners will advance directly to the Semi Finals, while the remaining group winner will join the three group runners up in the Quarter Finals. At the bottom of the groups, the three bottom placed teams will contest the relegation series. Premier Junior Football
Group 1: Four of the six teams in Group 1 will progress to the knockout stages, making the final round crucial. Sean Treacys face Carrick Swans, Borrisokane take on Loughmore Castleiney while CJ Kickhams Mullinahone meet JK Brackens.
Group 2: It is winner-takes-all as Moyle Rovers face Clonoulty Rossmore. The winner will qualify for the Quarter Finals, while the loser will go into the Relegation Final, where they will face the bottom team from Group 1. Fr Sheehys will finish top of this group.
Championship Format: The top two teams in Group 2 will progress to the Quarter Finals where they will face the third and fourth placed teams from Group 1. The top two teams in Group 1 will advance directly to the Semi Finals

Munster GAA Club Development Grants Scheme Opens
Munster GAA has launched its 2026 Club Development Grants Scheme, with applications now open to clubs across the province until 28th August.
The €1.5 million scheme, funded in partnership with GAA Central Council, will support a wide range of club development projects including pitch development, changing rooms, floodlighting, gyms, hurling walls, spectator facilities, accessibility improvements, land acquisition and handball facilities.
Munster GAA Chairperson Tim Murphy encouraged all eligible clubs with development plans to apply, highlighting the scheme as an important investment in the future of clubs and their communities.
Applications must be submitted through the online portal on the Munster GAA website with successful grants due to be announced in October.

2026 Tipperary Club Season Pass
The 2026 Tipperary GAA club season pass is now on sale and can be purchased via the events section of the Tipperary GAA App. The pass which will entitle the holder entry into all adult divisional and county games at adult level will cost €170.
GAA Regional Youth Forums
The Gaelic Games Associations are inviting young members aged 12 to 21 to attend the GAA Regional Youth Forums taking place in September. The forums will give young people the opportunity to have their say on the future of Gaelic games through discussion, debate and interactive workshops.
This year, the Youth Forum is coming to regional venues, with The Dome, FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles, hosting a forum on Sunday September 6th from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.
The forums have been developed by the National GAA Youth Committee and will help shape the future direction of the Association.
