West Tipperary GAA Scene – November 8th 2016

West U21 Hurling Championships:
The semi-final pairings for the Ollies Bar West U21B Hurling Championship are now complete. Rockwell/Rosegreen took the final semi-final spot when they knocked out defending champions Lattin/Cullen Gaels in Bansha on Sunday last after extra-time. Match Report

The semi-finals of the competition will take place this weekend. First up on Saturday at 2pm in Clonoulty, Knockavilla Gaels take on Cashel King Cormacs. Extra-time will be played in the event of a draw. Knockavilla Gaels defeated Lattin/Cullen Gaels in round 1 while Cashel King Cormacs defeated Eire Og Annacarty Donohill.

The second semi-final goes ahead in Golden on Sunday at 12 noon where Eire Og Annacarty Donohill take on Rockwell/Rosegreen. Extra-time will be played in the event of a draw. This will be the second meeting of the teams in a few weeks. When the teams met earlier in the competition Eire Og Annacarty Donohill came out on top.

This year’s final will take place on the weekend of November 20th.

The semi-finals of this year’s O’Dwyer Steel West U21A Hurling championship took place on Sunday last November 6th.

Defending champions Cappawhite/Sean Treacys put their crown on the line when they took on Clonoulty/Rossmore in what was a repeat of last year’s decider. The 2015 champions coming out on top by five points in Cashel. Match Report

It will be the first time in twelve seasons that Clonoulty/Rossmore have failed to make the U21 A decider.

In the other semi-final Golden/Kilfeacle had a comfortable victory over Galtee/Emly in Sean Treacy Park. Match Report

Golden/Kilfeacle qualifying for their first U21A Hurling decider since 1998.

The O’Dwyer Steel West U21A Hurling final is currently fixed for Sunday November 20th in Cashel at 2pm.

O’Donoghue Cup:
The final of this year’s Michael Devlin Solicitors O’Donoghue Cup which was originally fixed for Friday November 4th in Cappawhite was postponed and will be re-fixed at a later date.

County Junior A Football Championship:
Best of luck to Clonoulty/Rossmore who take on Loughmore/Castleiney in the Tipperary Water County Junior A Football championship final this Friday night November 11th at 8pm in Templetuohy.
Clonoulty/Rossmore will be looking to keep the Junior A Football championship (John Bourke Cup) in the West following Golden/Kilfeacle’s success 12months ago. This will be the third year in a row a West team has competed in the final following Sean Treacys (2014) and Golden/Kilfeacle (2015).

Clonoulty/Rossmore will be looking for their first County title in the grade since 2000 when they defeated North champions Ballina in the final. After a slow start the West champions soon found their form and lead 1-7 to 0-2 at the break. Dan Quirke with the Clonoulty/Rossmore goal. The rain fell in the second half but Clonoulty/Rossmore’s progress continued and David Kennedy’s goal sealed the victory on a score line of 2-12 to 0-4. Maurice Quirke collected the trophy from newly elected West Board Chairman James O’Donnell. This was Clonoulty/Rossmore’s third title following victories in 1969 and 1985.

As this is Loughmore/Castleiney’s second team, Clonoulty/Rossmore will represent Tipperary in the Munster Junior Football championship. They will be away to Gabriel Rangers of Cork in the Munster semi-final on weekend of 20th November.

County Intermediate Hurling Relegation:
The County Intermediate hurling relegation continued on Saturday last November 5th when Arravale Rovers defeated Rockwell Rovers in Golden. The result means Rockwell Rovers are relegated to Junior A for 2017 while both Golden/Kilfeacle and Arravale Rovers retain their Intermediate status for 2017.

Referee:
Best of luck to John McCormack who will take charge of the Munster Junior Club Hurling semi-final between Bodyke (Clare) and Mayfield (Cork) this Sunday November 13th at 2pm in Pairc Ui Rinn.
