West Tipperary GAA Scene – April 26th 2016

Minor Football Championship:
The group stages of the Tipperary Print & Design West Minor A Football Championship concluded on Thursday night last. Arravale Rovers and Emly/Treacys shared the spoils in Emly meaning Arravale Rovers advance to a semi-final with Clonoulty/Rossmore. This game has been fixed for Thursday April 28th in Annacarty at 7.15pm. When the sides met in the group stages it was Arravale Rovers who had three points to spare over their semi-final opponents.

The semi-finals of the Bridge House Golden West Minor B Football championship take place this Wednesday April 27th, Cashel King Cormacs take on Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams at 7.15pm in Clonoulty while Cappawhite Gaels take on Rockwell/Rosegreen at 7.15pm in Dundrum. Extra time to be played in both games if level after 60 minutes.

West Minor Hurling Championship:
The West Minor A & B hurling championships will commence on May 4th/5th with Round 2 on May 11th/12th & Round 3 on May 18th.

West Junior B Hurling League:
The Maria Marron Palmers Hill Stud West Junior B Hurling league continued last week. In Group 1 Solohead made it two wins from two when they defeated Clonoulty/Rossmore while Sean Treacys and Rosegreen finished all square. This Tuesday night in Group 1 Solohead host Cappawhite while Clonoulty/Rossmore host Rosegreen.

In Group 2 Arravale Rovers defeated Cashel King Cormacs while last year’s champions Emly were also victorious against Golden/Kilfeacle. On Tuesday night in Group 2 Arravale Rovers host Golden/Kilfeacle while on Friday night April 29th Emly host Cashel King Cormacs. All games throw in at 7.15pm

County Senior Hurling Championship:
The group stage of the County Senior Hurling Championship continued last weekend with all three West teams in action. On Sunday in Group 2 of Roinn I, Eire Og Annacarty Donohill were defeated by Borrisileigh in Boherlahan. The same day in Group 4 of Roinn I, Clonoulty/Rossmore made it two wins from two when they defeated Lorrha/Dorrha in Dolla. In Group 3 of Roinn 2 Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams were defeated by a margin of five points when they took on Borrisokane in Newport.

County Senior Football Championship:
The County Senior Football championship continues this weekend.

In Group 1 Arravale Rovers will be looking to get their first win in this year’s competition when they take on Upperchurch/Drombane this Friday April 29th at 7.15pm in Sean Treacy Park.

In Group 3 on Saturday night there is a repeat of last year’s West semi-final as Eire Og Annacarty Donohill take on Galtee/Rovers in Sean Treacy Park at 6.30pm. 12 months ago Eire Og knocked out the then West Champions Galtee Rovers. The sides last met in the group phase of the County championship in 2013 when Galtee Rovers were victorious.

Also on Saturday evening in Group 4 Aherlow Gaels and Drom & Inch meet in Dundrum with a 5pm throw in. Both sides were victorious in round 1. When the sides met at the same stage last year Aherlow Gaels were the victors by a five point margin.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship:
The group stages of this years West Intermediate Hurling championship commenced last Sunday April 24th with 7 West teams in action.

In Group 1 it was Sean Treacys who had a winning start to this year’s competition when they defeated Arravale Rovers in Cappawhite.

That game was followed by the Group 5 clash of 2015 West champions Cashel King Cormacs and 2015 county semi-finalist Ballinahinch. The north side coming out on top in this one.

In Group 2 St Marys got the better of Rockwell Rovers while Cappawhite made a winning start to their Intermediate campaign when they defeated Roscrea.

In Group 3, 2015 West finalists Galtee Rovers had a comfortable victory over Moycarkey/Borris.

In Group 6 Golden/Kilfeacle were defeated by Kilsheelan/Kilcash in Clonmel.

County U21A Football Championship:
The County U21A Football Championship semi-finals will take place this Monday May 2nd in Dundrum as a double header. West Champions Arravale Rovers will play Drom & Inch at 1.30pm. Extra time will be played in the event of a draw. Three years ago at Minor level the sides also met at the County semi-final stage in Dundrum with Drom & Inch coming out on top by the minimum. Arravale Rovers will be playing in the first County U21A football semi-final since 2013 where they were defeated by Loughmore/Castleiney and will be looking to reach their first County final in the grade since 2012. The winners will play the winners of Newport and Clonmel Commercials which follows at 3pm, in this year’s County final.

Munster Minor Football Championship:
Hard luck to our West representatives and to the Tipperary Minor football team and management who were defeated by Waterford in Semple Stadium on Wednesday night last April 20th. Unfortunately their participation in this year’s championship is now over.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship:
Hard luck to our West representatives and to the Tipperary Minor Hurling team and management who were defeated by Waterford in the Munster Minor Hurling championship in Walsh Park on Saturday last. They will now meet Clare in a playoff on either May 4th or 7th in a Clare venue.
