Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Notes – 6th October 2014

MUNSTER SENIOR B CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL
Tipperary County Senior Champions, Cappawhite met Ballymacarbry, Waterford in Cahir on Sunday last in the Munster Senior B Club Championship Semi Final.

Ballymacarbry’s Marian Ryan was the first to score with a point from a free within the first minute. Cappawhite and Ballymacarbry traded points in the next two minutes before Ballymacarbry scored four unanswered points, two from frees taken by Marian Ryan. Cappawhite’s Sheelagh Carew opened their scoring in the final quarter with a point before Ballymacarbry pointed another free. In the nineteenth minute Tipperary were awarded their first free of the game and this was put over the bar by Sheelagh Carew. Following this Ballymacarbry hit a purple patch scoring two goals and three points to Cappawhite’s single point. As the half time whistle blew Ballymacarbry had stretched the margin to twelve points, Ballymacarbry 2-10 Cappawhite 0-4.

Weather conditions worsened with heavy rainfall and the second half proved a more even game of football. Cappawhite re-emerged for the second half with 14 players following the yellow card received by Joanne O’Doherty in the final minutes of the first half. Lauren Guiry, Ballymacarbry was first to the scoreboard with a point in the thirty first minute. As Joanne O’Doherty was due to return to the field Ballymacarbry’s Siobhán Ryan was sinbinned. Frees for each club were swapped before Cappawhite substituted Sinead Buckley for Jean Kelly. Cappawhite’s play was now improving and this culminated with Sheelagh Carew raising the green flag for Cappawhite. In the following five minutes she assisted in two more missed goal chances but Ballymacarbry’s Aileen Wall was not to have that misfortune as she netted the ball in the fifty minute. The next point was for Cappawhite but Ballymacarbry finished the game with a goal from a penalty in the fifty seventh minute. Full time score Ballymacarbry 4-13 Cappawhite 1-7.
