TIPPERARY INTERMEDIATE TEAM
The TG4 All Ireland Championship was launched in Croke Park recently and the Tipperary Intermediate Ladies Footballers secured a draw against Wicklow in the Round 1 Qualifier. This was played on Saturday last in St. Brendan’s Park, Birr.
Tipperary opened the scoring in the third minute when Lorraine O’Shea scored a point from a free. Aimee Pollard added another point in the following minute. Wicklow equalised in the sixth minute with points from Sara Delahunty and Ailbhe Carney. Lorraine O’Shea traded points Laurie Ahern but it was Gillian O’Brien’s point in the tenth minute which gave Tipperary the lead they would hold on to as Tipperary hit a purple patch for next thirteen minutes scoring six unanswered points. Wicklow applied the pressure for the final eight minutes of the half scoring four points to Tipperary’s single point, thus reducing the deficit at half time to four points, Tipperary 0-11 Wicklow 0-7.

Wicklow’s Sara Delahunty scored the first point in the second half. Soon afterwards in the 36th minute, Tipperary scored a crucial goal. Half time sub Louise Cadell, Tipperary caught a short kick out from goalie Lauren Fitzpatrick and passed the ball to Lorraine O’Shea who soloed through the field to raise the green flag for Tipperary. Gillian O’Brien, Tipperary added two more points to their score line to increase the divide to seven points as the game entered the final quarter. Again Wicklow increased in the intensity scoring a goal and a point before Tipperary were dealt another blow when Gillian O’Brien was sin binned for a high tackle in the fifty fifth minute. Wicklow went on in the fifty ninth and sixty first minute to score another two points reducing the deficit. But a resilient Tipperary team stood firm and claimed the final score in injury time thanks to another Lorraine O’Shea point to run out three point winners on a score line of Tipperary 1-14 Wicklow 1-11.

TIPPERARY MINOR TEAM
The Tipperary Minor team will compete in the All Ireland Minor B Final in Crettyard, Laois at 2.00pm on Saturday 2nd August against Offaly. Tipperary last won the All-Ireland in this grade in 2010 having been losing finalists a year earlier while Offaly have not yet reached an All Ireland Final to date. Offaly commenced their Minor Championship early this year in February with some heavy defeats but they built on this for the Leinster Semi Finals when they overcame Meath with a seven point margin. In the Leinster Final, Offaly defeated Kildare on a score line of Offaly 3-9 Kildare 2-5.

Tipperary on the other hand did not start their Championship until April and had wins over Limerick and Kerry. Cork defeated Tipperary in the Minor A Final and Tipperary then overcame Waterford in the Minor B Final, Tipperary 2-11 Waterford 0-10.

Both Counties won their Provincial Finals by seven points and by the same token their All Ireland Semi Finals results were not much different Offaly overcoming Leitrim 4-14 to 1-12, Tipperary defeated Armagh 5-13 to 1-10.
