FBD Insurance County Championships
Last weekend saw the conclusion of two more competitions in the FBD Insurance County Championships with the playing of the intermediate football final replay and the junior B hurling final.
The eagerly antiscipated replay of the intermediate football final between Grangemockler Ballyneale and Aherlow took place on Saturday afternoon in Ardfinnan in front of a very large attendance. Having played out a thrilling draw two weeks previously, another titanic battle was expected, and the teams did not fail to deliver. While Aherlow did take an early lead, Grangemockler Ballyneale fought their way back into the game and while they did not take the advantage until the closing stages, they held out for a famous victory that will see them playing senior football in 2024.
In Clonoulty on the same day, Drom & Inch and Cappawhite met to decide the destination of the Tim Maher Cup, which is awarded to the winners of the county junior B hurling championship. Drom & Inch were many peoples favourites and so it proved to be as they put in a very dominant display to overcome the challenge of the West Tipperary side, winning by 2-16 to 2-07.
Also on Saturday afternoon in Templederry, Shannon Rovers secured their place in this year’s Junior B Football final as they defeated Galtee Rovers by 0-11 to 0-09. The North Tipperary side will now play Clonmel Commercials in the final this coming weekend.
Munster Club Championship
Commiserations to our Premier Intermediate Hurling champions Lorrha Dorrha who lost out to a very good Corofin side in the Munster Intermediate Quarter Final which was played in MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on Sunday afternoon. To their credit the Tipp champions battled all the way to the final whistle, but had to give second best on this occasion, losing by 3-18 to 1-14. It has been an excellent year for the Lorrha Dorrha club who can now look forward to playing senior hurling in 2024.
This coming weekend will see a number of Tipperary clubs taking to the field in Munster club action. On Saturday afternoon in Templetuohy, Sean Treacys will welcome Cork’s Kilmurry for their Junior football Quarter final at 1.30pm.
Then on Sunday at 1.30pm, Grangemockler Ballyneale will commence their Munster Intermediate football voyage with a home venue against Waterford’s Roanmore. At the same time in FBD Semple Stadium Clonmel Commercials will be hoping to avenge last years defeat to Limerick’s Newcastle West when they go to battle in their senior football Quarter Final clash. We extend our best wishes to all the Tipperary clubs in action and remind supporters that tickets for all these games are now available on the Munster GAA website.
Tipperary Clubs Draw
The November draw took place in The Halfway, Rathronan last Friday night and was hosted by the Moyle Rovers club. On the night the top prize of a Kia Stonic or €18,000 was won by Michael Barnes who is a member with the Clonmel Óg club. Second prize of €5000 went to Clonakenny’s Dan Walsh. While Kilruane MacDonaghs Joan Fox won €2000. The €5000 jackpot prize was not won and so will roll over to the next draw. Congratulations to all the winners on the night. The November weekly draw takes place on Friday November 17th and will be broadcast on Tipp GAA TV.
Tipperary GAA Yearbook
It’s Tipperary Yearbook time again and it’s hoped to have the 2024 edition in the shops by December 5th. As well as the usual information on inter-county achievements in hurling and football, the book will include information on the county championships in hurling and football, and reports on camogie, ladies football, handball, Bord na nÓg, Cumann na mBunscol, etc.
Club officials are requested to send information on special club achievements, such as pitch openings, club developments. Etc. As well, the book remembers Gaels of the Past and clubs would oblige by sending obituary notices of members who have passed away during the past year. Such notices should be about 150 words long, and include a photograph of the deceased, the name of the club, and the years of the life.

Football Committee
A meeting of the above committee will be held on zoom this Thursday evening, November 9th at 9pm. The link for the meeting has been circulated to each club and it is important that a full compliment of delegates attend the meeting. The main items up for discussions at the meeting will be to review and approval of proposals submitted by management committee for the Nov 14th county committee meeting relating to championship structures in 2024.
November County Committee Meeting
The November County Committee meeting will be held next Monday November 13th at 7.30pm in The Dome. As well as the usual items on the agenda, the meeting will be addressed by Aine Roche Tipperary County Council Healthy Co-Ordinator, there will also be an update on the new Tipperary GAA strategic plan. But the main area of attention for delegates will be the motions in relation to the 2024 championships & leagues which will be down for decision on the night. PwC Camogie All Star Awards
We extend our congratulations to Thurles Sarsfields Camogie Club ‘s Karen Kennedy and Clonoulty Rossmore Camogie Club‘s Cait Devane who have been named on the 2023 PwC Camogie All-Star team. Congratulations also to Jean Kelly Eire Óg Annacarty, who received a Soaring Star All Star at the awards ceremony which took place last Saturday night.
Health and Wellbeing
The Irish Life GAA Healthy Club Conference 2023, taking place on Saturday, November 18th in Croke Park, will celebrate the impact of this pioneering programme as it marks its 10th anniversary.
Back in 2013 just 16 clubs, four from each province, set off on a journey to demonstrate and learn how they could best support the health and wellbeing of their members and communities. 450 clubs across the 32 counties, including a small number of international clubs, have since been engaged in the programme delivering hundreds of initiatives to tens of thousands of participants.
This year’s free conference will feature insights and success stories from clubs that have been part of the Healthy Clubs programme since its inception, along with contributions from some very special guests (who will be revealed closer to the date). Using finding from a recently completed independent evaluation of the programme, the event will also celebrate the transformational impact that Healthy Club volunteers have had on their communities and the GAA itself.
In 2022-23 alone, Healthy Clubs delivered 2,389 number of initiatives reaching 184,598 participants, many of whom never had any prior connection to their local GAA club. In Autumn of this year, 378 clubs received Heathy Club Accreditation, ranging from Foundation level through to Silver and Gold depending on each club’s capacity to deliver.
This level of growth and impact could not have been achieved without the long-term support of our title sponsors, Irish Life, with further support from the Tomar Trust, the HSE, the National Office for Suicide Prevention, and Healthy Ireland.

Thurles Fresh Milk Santa Dash and Visit Santa at The Dome
On Sunday December 3rd, 2023, Tipperary GAA will hold the inaugural Thurles Fresh Milk 6K Santa dash which promises to be a fun filled day for all the family. The run commences from The Dome at FBD Semple Stadium at 11.30am, with registration for the event from 10.30am. Tickets can be pre purchased via the Tipperary GAA website events section.
Santa will also be in his grotto at the Dome from 12pm on the day and is really looking forward to meeting all the boys and girls. Admission to Santa’s Grotto is €10 and tickets can be purchased in advance via the Tipperary GAA website events section. Places are limited so make sure to book in advance.
Following the 6K run there will be lots of sporty festive fun in the dome, as there will be interviews with past and present legends on stage. All our intercounty players will be in attendance and available for chats and photos. We will also have lots of good music with our DJ as well as Christmas Carols.
All funds raised on the day will go towards our underage hurling and football county teams, so please do come along on the day and support all our underage players while having lots of fun in the process.

Tipperary Hurling Club New York
The annual Tipperary hurling club, New York dinner dance will take place this year on December 2nd in Mulinos @ Lake Isle, Eastchester, New York. This years special guest will be former Tipperary hurler Seamus Callanan. The guest of honour will be Declan O’Meara (Toomevara), while Donie Shanahan (Toomevara) will also be a guest.
