FBD Insurance County Championships
What an eventful weekend we had across the county last weekend with the conclusion of the group stages of the FBD Senior, Premier Intermediate and Intermediate hurling championships taking place. With the majority of games still having major relevance on the direction the participating teams would take in the competitions, there was a real sense of anticipation as things got underway on Saturday afternoon. First into action were the Intermediate hurlers of Boherlahan Dualla and Shannon Rovers who met for their group 3 game in Templemore and what was a well contested game it was Boherlahan Dualla who claimed the win on a full time score of 3-15 to 0-13. Also in the Intermediate hurling championship, Skeheenarinky and Upperchurch Drombane met in Cahir and it was the south side who claimed victory by 1-20 to 2-09. The clash of Golden Kilfeacle and Ballingarry took place in New Inn and it was Golden who had a goal to spare over their opponents as they won by 1-15 to 0-15. In Templemore the other group 2 game between Cappawhite and Kiladangan was also taking place and resulted in a fine 1-21 to 0-16 win for Cappawhite. In group 1 of the Intermediate hurling championship, Kinocavilla Donaskeigh defeated Carrick Davins by 4-16 to 1-10 in Fethard, while in the same group in Boherlahan, Drom & Inch had 6 points to spare over Arravale Rovers as they won by 2-18 to 1-15.
In the Premier Intermediate hurling championship on Saturday, Thurles Sarsfields had a good 0-19 to 1-13 win over Sean Treacys in group 2, while in the same group Carrick Swan defeated Eire Óg Annacarty Donohill by 1-20 to 0-14 in Cloneen. In group 3 of the Premier Intermediate hurling championship, Silvermines scored a last minute goal to overcome Newport by 3-12 to 1-12 in their game which was played in Templederry, while in the other game in the group, Burgess defeated Clonakenny by 3-12 to 0-12 in Nenagh. In Borrisoleigh, Cashel King Cormacs and Ballina met for their group 1 tie and it was the West Tipperary side who were the happier at the end as they enjoyed a 2-23 to 0-26 point win and are now guaranteed to top the group.
The final two games in group 2 of the Senior hurling championship were also played on Saturday evening and in Borrisoleigh, Toomevara and Roscrea gave both sets of supporters lots to cheer about as they served up a thrilling game that in the end saw Toomevara having just 2 points to spare as they won by 1-20 to 1-18. Up the road in Templederry Moycarkey Borris and Kilruane MacDonaghs again played out a highly entertaining game that resulted in a 1-23 to 1-21 win for the Mid Tipperary side.
On Sunday in the Intermediate hurling championship, Borrisokane had a comprehensive 1-23 to 1-10 win over Ballybacon Grange when they met in Holycross. In the Premier Intermediate hurling championship, Gortnahoe Glengoole and Killenaule could not be separated when they met in Littleton with the game ending up on the scoreline of Gortnahoe Glengoole 0-19 to Killenaule’s 1-16. In the same group of the Premier Intermediate hurling championship, Lorrha Dorrha defeated Portroe by 1-23 to 2-17 when they met in Cloughjordan. .
In the senior hurling championship there were wins for CJ Kickhams Mullinahone over Nenagh Eire Óg (2-21 to 1-16) in Templetuohy, While JK Brackens enjoyed a 3-24 to 2-16 win over neighbours Drom & Inch also in Templetuohy. In The Ragg, Kiladangan continued their impressive form as they overcame Clonoulty Rossmore by 0-25 to 0-17. In Borrisoleigh, Templederry Kenyons defeated Holycross Ballycahill by 1-27 to 1-23, while in FRB Semple Stadium there were wins for Thurles Sarsfields over Borris-Ileigh by 2-20 to 1-11 and Loughmore Castleiney over Upperchurch Drombane by 2-15 to 0-17.

The attention this coming weekend will be on the Senior and Intermediate football champions as the last rounds of both competitions will be played. Tickets for all the games can now be purchased on the Tipperary GAA website or supporters can pay by Tap & Go at the venue.
Semple Field Day 2023
On Saturday September 2nd , Tipperary GAA and our sponsors Fiserv will come together with an aim of raising as much funds as possible, to be shared between The Dillon Quirke Foundation & Cliona’s Foundation
The event will take place in and around Semple Stadium and will consist of :
- 10am – 3pm – U-9 Hurling Blitzin Dr Morris Park followed by 5 min games for each in Semple Stadium
- 11am – 2pm – Semple Toursby County Team for each team
- 11am – 6km / 8km Fun Walk/Run– Start & Finish in Semple Stadium.
- 12pm – 3pm – Semple Field Dayactivities – (fun games around the pitch)
- 1:15pm – 4pm – Semple Dog Show
- 12pm – 4pm – Car boot Saleoutside Semple Stadium (old Stand)
- 12pm – 4pm – Bake Salewith traditional Irish Music. ( please encourage your members to donate goods to this sale – Ask the to contact fogarty@fiserv.com should they intend to bake something for it)
Unfortunately both events which were planned for the Dome on Saturday evening had to be cancelled as there are a number of other events taking place in the area on the same night that seem to have impacted on ticket sales for the event.

Sympathies
We extend our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of those who so tragically lost their lives in a fatal road crash last Friday evening in Clonmel. The tragic events put so much into context and make us all realise how things can change foe so many in an instant. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who mourn at this time.
Tipperary Clubs Draw
The 2023 – 2024 Tipperary Clubs Draw commenced last Friday evening in the Cashel Palace Hotel. On the night the top prize of a Renault Arkana or €25,000 went to Marion Delaney who is a member with the Roscrea club. Second prize of €5000 stayed in North Tipperary and was won by Kilruane MacDonaghs Tadgh Whelan, while Ann McGarry of St Marys Clonmel claimed the €3000 third prize. The fourth prize of €2000 was won by Michael O’Riordan who is a member with the Killea club. In total a massive €60,000 in prizes was won on the night and we congratulate all the winners.
Applications sought for Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative
The Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative, delivered in partnership with Foróige and The University of Galway, seeks to empower GAA members aged 15 to 18 years-old to make a positive difference in their club, county, and communities through values-based leadership. During the programme the young GAA members gain aptitudes in essential leadership skills in a safe and supportive environment. Module one focuses on the individual and their leadership skills, building their self-awareness, community skills, values, and communication skills. Module two focuses on their ability to lead as part of a team enabling them to cultivate their skills further. Module three focuses on their individual leadership aspirations and offers the participants the opportunity to lead their own project within their community from conception to completion.
The GAA, Foróige and the University of Galway are aiming to expand and grow the initiative beyond the current registered clubs, and we are encouraging individuals interested in becoming programme facilitators to register for training which will enable them to run the programme within their clubs.
