Allianz Football League

Following their promotion to Division 3 of the Allianz football league for 2023, our senior footballers travelled to Croke Park last Saturday where they played Cavan in this year’s Division 4 final. The players put in another fine performance and were very unlucky to end up defeated by the narrowest of margins. The result may well have been different were it not for the wood work coming between Tipp[erary and a score. The players now prepare for the Munster championship and another difficult assignment away to Waterford in Fraher Field Dungarvan on April 30th at 7pm.

Munster Minor Championships

The Tipperary Minor hurling team got their campaign underway on Tuesday last April 5th when they played Waterford in Fraher Field Dungarvan and are now preparing to welcome Clare to FBD Semple Stadium on April 12th at 7pm for their Round 2 game.

The Tipperary Minor footballers are in the final stages of their preparations for their opening game against Limerick on April 14th in FBD Semple Stadium at 7pm. Best wishes to both panels as they aim to progress with success in both competitions.

Munster Under 20 Championships

The Tipperary Under 20 hurlers commence their campaign this Wednesday evening April 6th with a trip to Austin Stack Park in Tralee to play Kerry at 7pm. They will then play host to Waterford in FBD Semple Stadium on April 13th at 7pm. Their football counterparts will make the trip to Hennessy Memorial Park Miltown-Malbay this Monday April 11th where they will play Clare at 7pm. Best of luck to players and management of both teams.

Tipperary Clubs Draw

The April draw takes place this Friday April 8th in Phelan’s Bar, Main Street, Roscrea and will be hosted by the Roscrea GAA Club. The draw will also be broadcast live on Tipp FM at 8.30pm

Scór Na Mumhan

Scór Na nÓg made a welcome return to provincial level on Sunday last where all roads led to Halla Na Féile Cashel for the Munster Scór Na nÓg Final.

The large crowd were treated to a mighty day of competition with Tipperary having full representation in all competitions. Cork’s Muireann Vaughan acted as Bean an Tí and done a splendid job in keeping both the competitors and the audience in check.

The day opened with the Trath Na gCeist Competition and Tipperary’s Newport done extremely well in the table quiz finishing in 3rd position and guaranteeing them a place on the stage for the final section but more importantly a place in the All Ireland Final on May 1st. The team done very well and also finished 3rd on the stage. The main competition began and our other sole winners, Newcastle were first to represent the premier county in the Rince Foirne competition. As per usual the girls danced splendidly which saw them crowned Munster champions and a place on the bus to Killarney.

Tipperary’s other competitors can be extremely proud of their efforts. Although success eluded them we are all very proud and grateful for the time and effort they put into their competitions. Our thanks go to Katie O’Mahoney, Holycross (Solo Singinig), Mary Ryan, Upperchuch (Recitation), Thurles Sarsfields (Ballad Group), Templederry (Novelty) and JK Brackens (Music and Set) who represented the premier county with pride.

Both our winners now advance to the Munster Final which will take place in the INEC on May 1st with the Table Quiz kicking off at 11.30am and the main event starting at 3pm sharp. Full list of winners from the day is available below:

MUNSTER GAA PRIMARY GAME LAUNCH

The MUNSTER GAA PRIMARY GAME LAUNCH took place in Aras Mumhan on Wednesday, March 30th. Cumann na mBunscol Officers from the different counties were in attendance along with some children from local primary schools in the Limerick Area. Munster GAA Chairman and Templederry native Ger Ryan was also in attendance and we are especially grateful to all the support both Ger and his Munster GAA colleagues give to the promotion of the Primary Game.

KILLEA NS & GAILE NS LIGHT IT UP UNDER THE SPRING SUN BY MARY KENNEDY KILLEA NS

To give a sense of the day we had today, it is best to use a direct quote from the youngest member of our team “ It was epic!!”. The past two weeks of anticipation for today have been so much fun in themselves. From ensuring our kit was fully aired and ready to organising our lunchtime league and ensuring we were game ready. The bus pulled up to our main gate to cheers from all as we looked forward to our first bus trip in so long. The clatter of hurls, the dropping of bottles, the plotting and planning of seating arrangements was palpable. We have missed these days. It was off to Holycross we headed to meet with the U13 team of Gaile NS. The welcome that awaited us was so super. Donal Ryan and the Gaile NS team were ready and waiting and first job was to welcome us to the pitch. This set the tone of what was to come. We were thrilled to see our school coach Kevin Nolan pull up and meet us in the dressing rooms to announce the starting team. Our teacher Ms. Kennedy and our school SNA Aisling had some great words of wisdom for us and a reminder of our classroom motto that kindness counts. The match began and we played with the wind. Our midfielders Sean Burke, Aoibhe Burke and Ben O Sullivan were outstanding and kept feeding so much ball up to our athletic forwards April Burke, Luke Quinlan and Ben Burke. The Gaile NS goalkeeper was on fire and any score we got was hard fought for. With some super puckouts, our backline of Shane Higgins, Kian Cheshire and Andrew Quinlan needed to be alert and moving. Sarah Bourke was excellent in our goal and saved some cracking shots sent in from the boys and girls of Gaile N.S. The sportsmanship was evident throughout the first half. At halftime we warmed our hands as best we could and got set for the second half. The sun continued to shine and we were thrilled to be able to change around our team a little to ensure everyone who travelled got some game time. The second half was a tight pairing and we enjoyed the good banter the referee brought to the game. The final whistle blew and we were delighted to come together with Gaile N.S. and hear some great compliments for all our team from Gaile N.S. Principal Donal Ryan and our own Principal Mary Kennedy. We travelled back to school in high spirits after such an enjoyable first day back at playing matches.

Handball News

This weekend saw the long trip to Kingscourt for the Cumann na mBunscoil inter provincial games. This was a well organised event with the Munster players taking on the Provincial winners from Ulster, Leinster & Connaught. Tipperary U11 Girls Doubles Ava Carey & Molly Joyce from Ballina N.S. were the only Tipperary players on the Munster team. They were in top form winning all their games and taking the maximum total points of 90 aces. They beat the Connaught Champions Sive Leonard & Rosy Leonard from Galway 15/2, 15/4. In their second match they defeated the Leinster Champions Ciara O Reilly & Evie Mc Carthy from Dublin 15/11, 15/6. In their final game they defeated the Ulster Champions from Tyrone 15/4, 15/6.

The Adult Doubles All Ireland Semi Final are fixed for the coming week and Munster are up against Leinster. Tipperary won four Munster titles in Ladies Junior B Doubles, Golden Masters A Doubles, U21 Doubles & Ladies Intermediate Doubles. Our Ladies Junior B Doubles have already played their All-ireland semi Final but were defeated by Aoife & Una Brophy from Laois 21/12, 21/6. On Saturday the 9th April our Golden Masters A Doubles pair of John Kennedy & Pat O Flaherty travel to Kells in Meath to take on locals Tom & Michael Sheridan. On Sunday in St Josephs in Wexford our U21 Doubles Rory Grace & Eoin Healy take on the Wexford pair of Mark Doyle & Josh Cavanagh. In the Ladies Intermediate doubles Sinéad Meagher & Roisín Cahill are through to the All Ireland Final.
