Ger Ryan

Commiserations to Templederry Kenyons clubman and proud Tipperary man Ger Ryan who was unsuccessful in his bid for Uachtarán CLG at Annual Congress last Friday night in Croke Park. Ger represented Tipperary and his club with immense pride and dignity throughout the campaign and we thank him sincerely for his commitment and dedication. We are certain that Ger has much more to offer the GAA at both county and national level and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.

Congratulations to Derek Kent of Wexford who has been elected as the 42nd Uachtarán of the Association. We wish Derek every success as he prepares to take up the role in 2027 and lead the GAA into the future.

Tipperary Senior Footballers 

Well done to the Senior Footballers who delivered an impressive performance last Sunday at the Sportsfield in Clonmel overcoming Leitrim on a 1-18 to 0-8 scoreline.

The first half proved decisive for Tipperary who led 1-12 to 0-5 at the break. Sean O’Connor opened the scoring in the fifth minute before a Leitrim two pointer from Keith Keegan briefly put the visitors ahead – their only lead of the game. Tipp responded quickly with a two pointer from Steven O’Brien and went on to dominate the scoreboard for the remainder of the half. The game’s only goal arrived in the 26th minute. Steven O’Brien fielded superbly before delivering to Daithí Hogan whose pace cut through the Leitrim defence and created the opening for Sean O’Connor to finish confidently to the net. As conditions deteriorated, the second half was a lower scoring contest with two pointers from Steven O’Brien and Sean O’Connor the standout moments as the Premier comfortably saw out the win.

Tipperary Senior Hurlers

The Senior Hurlers return to action this Sunday 8th March when they take on Waterford in Azzurri Walsh Park at 3.15pm. 

The counties have met on 50 occasions in the Hurling League, with Tipperary victorious 36 times, Waterford winning 11 and just three games ending in a draw.

The sides last met in the 2023 group stage where Tipperary secured an impressive 4-23 to 0-25 victory with Jake Morris bagging a hat trick of goals. Waterford had claimed the win the year previously prevailing 1-28 to 0-21 as Stephen Bennett amassed an impressive 1-16 on the day. In 2021, the Déise were again victorious winning 2-29 to 3-21 with Bennett once more contributing heavily with 0-15. Tipperary came out on top in their 2020 encounter, 0-24 to 2-16, in what proved to be a feisty contest that saw three red cards issued. The final game in this five match look back dates to 2018 when Tipperary ran out 1-20 to 1-11 winners. All eyes now turn to Sunday.

Supporters are reminded that tickets for all Allianz League games must be purchased online or in selected Centra and SuperValu stores, as tickets will not be on sale at match venues. Please note that Tap & Go will not be in operation at any venue, and in line with GAA policy for all competitions, no cash will be accepted at the turnstiles.

Hard luck to the Minor Footballers who lost out to Wicklow last Saturday on a 1-5 to 0-10 scoreline in the Semi Final of the Leinster Minor Football League.

Schools

Both Nenagh CBS and St Josephs Borrisoleigh will be out in hurling action this coming Saturday in their respective All Ireland Semi Finals.

Nenagh CBS will face St Kierans College Kilkenny in the Croke Cup ‘A’ Semi Final at 12 noon in Rathdowney whilst St Josephs Borrisoleigh will face Clonfert College Ballinasloe in their Michael Cusack Cup ‘C’ Semi Final at 1.00 pm in Banagher.

Tipperary Coaching & Games Development

Tipperary GAA Coaching and Games are hosting a Warm Up & Speed Development Workshop on Saturday 7th March at 10.00 am in Fethard GAA Club. 

Registration is now open for the Tipperary GAA Easter Camps 2026. The camps will take place from 31st March to 2nd April or 7th to 9th April, running daily from 10am to 1pm at various venues across the county (see Tipperary GAA social media channels for the full list of venues and dates). The cost is €40 per child, with every participant receiving a free football and sliotar, and a €5 per child rebate going back to their club. Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship

Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams face An Rinn, the 2025 Waterford champions in the Final of the Safety Active Munster Intermediate Hurling Champions Challenge to be played this Saturday in Lacken Park Newport at 2.00 pm.

Kickhams laid down an early marker of their intentions for 2026 with an impressive Semi Final display defeating Clare champions Smith O’Briens of Killaloe by 3-15 to 0-13. An Rinn qualified for the Final by defeating Limerick champions Murroe Boher in the first Semi Final by 2-12 to 1-11. Having lost out narrowly to Golden Kilfeacle in the Tipperary Co Intermediate Final on the 25th October last, Kickhams will be determined to salvage a trophy from their 2025 campaign and look firm favourites to win the Safety Direct trophy in this inaugural year of the competition. This novel idea of a tournament for County Intermediate hurling champions was the inspiration of Newport GAA Club who spotted an opportunity that existed following the decision of counties to send forward their Premier Intermediate winners as their representatives in the provincial Intermediate club championship. Upperchurch-Drombane proved worthy Tipperary representatives last year as they proudly won, not only the Munster Intermediate championship but also went on to win the All Ireland title. Newport GAA Club sought approval from Munster Council and received permission to run this new competition for counties Intermediate hurling champions. Precedents had already been set with Limerick clubs Killeedy and Knockaderry, running Junior B hurling and football tournaments successfully for many years. For this inaugural year Newport succeeded in attracting four of the Munster counties to participate considering it was out of season and coming late after the counties 2025 championships concluded. A bumper crowd is expected this Sat March 7th in Lacken Park Newport for this Final at 2.00 pm.

Programmes

In recent weeks, the latest batch of Tipperary GAA match programmes and team sheets were released on the Tipperary Studies digital platform. This was a collaborative initiative between the Mid, North, South and West Divisional Boards and Tipperary County Council Library Service to digitise match programmes and team sheets across the four divisions. While senior divisional final programmes were digitised some years ago, the latest release includes match programmes across all grades from senior to minor level. As more items become available, these too will be added to those online. The latest release brings the total of divisional items to 485 match programmes and team sheets. In addition to the 75 county senior hurling and 54 county senior football final programmes already online, there are now 614 items to view on the Tipperary Studies digital platform at the following link tippstudiesdigital.ie/collections/show/75
