CLERIHAN U13 LADIES FOOTBALLERS REACH ROINN B COUNTY FINAL
The Clerihan Under 13 Ladies Footballers began their campaign in Roinn B with an excellent victory away to Grange. In the second match, at home, to Our Ladys Of Mercy Cahir Clerihan won on a score line of 2-6 to 1-2, after a really tough battle in dreadful weather conditions. This win means Clerihan N.S. progress to the County Final after Halloween, where they will play Moycarkey NS. We wish the girls the very best of luck in the Final. Clerihan ABú!!
Under 13 Ladies Football Panel: Caoilinn Casey, Chloe O’Dwyer, Kayleigh Flannery, Melanie Doyle, Michelle Cronin (captain), Sadhbh McGrath, Niamh Laste, Zoe Power, Julie Burke, Samantha Buckley, Aoife McGrath, Amy O’Donnell, Ciara Griffin, Jessica Moloney.

ST. COLMCILLE’S V GAELSCOIL DURLAS
St.Colmcille’s left the school at quarter to twelve to be greeted by Gaelscoil at the park gates as we waited for Aidan Doyle to arrive with the keys. Finally Aidan arrived and unlocked the gates. Mr. Kelly, Mr. Healy and Mr. Doyle named out the team and before we knew it we were out on the pitch warming up. Patrick Moloney was our captain and went up for the toss. Mr. Kelly got us geared up and we left the huddle and took our positions on the pitch. The ball was thrown in and St. Colmcille’s got off to a bright start but kicked two wides. Then Gaelscoil went up the pitch and scored a point. St. Colmcille’s soon settled into their momentum and started to dominate the match with James Corcoran kicking two frees with his left foot. A high ball was dropped in on Ciarán McCormack who punched it to the net. The Gaelscoil goalie kicked out the ball and John Campion won the ball on the 45 and kicked a massive point. The half wore on and James Corcoran, Killian Fennell and John Campion each kicked some vital scores. The referee blew the half time whistle. St. Colmcille’s 1-6 Gaelscoil 2 points. The second half started and Gaelscoil applied some pressure but St. Colmcille’s stood tall and never let them in. Gaelscoil won one or two frees and dropped them into the square but St. Colmcille’s weathered the storm and worked the ball up the field and Conor Cadell blasted the ball over bar. James Kennedy kicked a lovely point followed by another point by John Campion. James Corcoran kept knocking over the frees as well as one from play. Patrick Moloney, Eoin Quinn, Jack Nevin, Luke Ormond and Kevin Sheedy kept busting out of the defence with the ball and supplying it to the forwards which they made good use of. Stephen Cahill was as steady as a rock leaving goalkeeper Shane Sweeney with nothing to do for the second match in a row. It ended up as a good win for St. Colmcille’s but there are more things to come. 1-11 to 3 points in favour of St. Colmcille’s and they are well on their way to retaining the title. By James Corcoran

ARDFINNAN NS V NEW INN NS
The county semi final between New Inn and Ardfinnan was a one sided affair despite Ardfinnans best efforts. New Inn stormed ahead with an early point from Diarmuid O`Brien straight from the throw in which was well won by Diarmuid English who played superb throughout with some great work rate. New Inn got a few more points from Adam Gallagher and Jake Fitzgerald. Ardfinnan had a couple of chances after that with Morgan Lambert and Aaron Poliunas doing well but Ardfinnan couldn`t get past Conor O`Neill, Finbarr English and Tom Downey in defence who all played brilliant. Then the opening goal came netted into the bottom corner by Kevin Cleary. Ben Doyle played very well in the full back line clearing many balls. Nearing half time more scores followed with Robert Murphy, Adam Gallagher and Jake Fitzgerald chipping in. At half time it was 5-4 to 0-0 with New Inn leading. The tempers were high coming out for the second half with fouls being conceded by both sides. Ardfinnan fought back well while New Inn were getting careless conceding a point to Ardfinnan, but Tom Downey and Joseph Lawrence kept order in defence. Subs came on for New Inn which included Kevin Keating, Cody Downey who got a nice goal. Conor O `Dywer and Jason O`Gorman. New Inn kept on the pressure with goals and points from Diarmuid English, Kevin Cleary and Diarmuid O`Brien. Aaron Poliunas got two points for Ardfinnan. The match ended 8-8 to 0-3 to New Inn. Well done to all especially the New Inn back line and goalkeeper to keep their second clean sheet on the trot. It was a great match great sportsmanship from both sides.

RULE CHANGE REMINDER
All schools are minded that 45’s can now be taken from the ground or from the hand in football. This rule was voted in at Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol A.G.M. in January 2014.

MOUTHGUARDS
As the football season begins schools are reminded of the importance of mouthguards for all children participating in Cumann na mBunscol matches. Both boys and girls playing in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic football fixtures must wear mouthguards without exception at all times. It would be advised that schools would also use mouthguards when training to allow children to get used to using them and to follow best practice.

REPORTER OF THE WEEK
Schools are reminded and encouraged to send news and updates of their progress in the football championships for the coming season. Reports can be a great writing topic for the classroom and are an opportunity for children to see their work published for a wider audience. In the pre-season championship build-up children could be given the chance to tell about their own training regiments and tips for the coming championship. A Reporter of the Week will be chosen and their work included in the weekly report. Please ensure all reports are a single paragraph in Verdana 10 type. All submissions should be proof-read by the teacher before submission.
