TIPPERARY ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL 2014 AGM REPORT

The Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol AGM for 2014 took place in Hayes Hotel Thurles on Wednesday 26th February at 7.30 pm. Chairman Paddy Kelly welcomed everyone to the meeting. After the adoption of standing orders, the delegates then read through the minutes of last year’s AGM, which were presented in the 2014 AGM booklet. Secretary Aodan Wrenn then went through the correspondence. He followed this up by going through his Secretary’s Report for 2013, as was outlined in the AGM Booklet. Aodan celebrated the success of the 2013 County Hurling & Football finals and thanked all those involved for contributing to such special occasions. Aodan acknowledged the significant assistance received at the time of the county hurling finals from GDA Officers Andy Ryan and Dinny Maher. Paddy Collins was singled out for special praise by Aodan for the enthusiasm he brings to promoting handball in the county and for coordinating our very successful handball competitions. Treasurer and Equipment Officer Jerry McDonnell then went through his Treasurer’s Report. It was very comprehensive as usual. Jerry noted that Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol finances are in a healthy position. Tipperary County Board Chairman Sean Nugent then addressed the meeting. He said the first experience young people have of playing Gaelic games is in the Primary school. He referenced the importance of the equipment scheme and how one club in particular had thrived after a new curate in a parish had given every child in the school a hurley to get them started hurling. He continued by saying that teachers do great work in promoting Gaelic games, and that the County Board appreciate all the hard work done by teachers. He said that schools play a huge role in the GAA. He finished by thanking the Officer Board for the invite to the AGM, and by wishing Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol all the very best for 2014. Next Dinny Maher, the Coaching and Games Promotion Manager for Tipperary addressed the meeting. He thanked the officers and teachers for their excellent co-operation. He said the Primary School Coaching scheme is a huge venture. Dinny said that his team are fully committed to it. Dinny also stated that the GDA were available to Cumann na mBunscol officers if they needed any assistance at the busy time of coordinating Under 11 Go Games competitions.

Next up was Paddy Kelly’s Chairman’s Address. He thanked the following:

• His fellow Officers who do excellent work for Allianz Cumann na mBunscol.

• Primary Game selectors, GDAs, teachers and Blitz Co-ordinators.

• The County Board, Allianz, Munster Council, Croke Park and Munster Allianz Cumann na mBunscol for their financial support.

• The Semple Stadium Committee for allowing us to use the Stadium on County Final days.

• The teachers in Tipperary for all they do to promote Gaelic games in their respective schools.

• The Chairman also highlighted the role our sponsors Allianz play in our success and he urged all schools to reference Allianz in any of their correspondence with the papers. Paddy finished by wishing all teachers and all schools the very best for 2014.

P.R.O John Manley then went through his P.R.O Report. It was very comprehensive. He began by thanking Assistant PRO Paudie Fahey for all his hard work during the football season. Our sponsors Allianz were then thanked for their significant financial support and loyalty over the years. The local newspapers were thanked for the role they play in helping us raise the profile of Gaelic games within the county. He also thanked the GDAs for their help on County Final days and throughout the year plus the schools for sending in team sheets on time before County Finals. He said we are deeply grateful to the Tipperary GAA Yearbook for giving us ten pages of exposure in the Tipperary Yearbook this year. Tipp FM was thanked for always giving Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol good publicity on their GAA show on Tipp FM radio at busy times on our calendar. John wished outgoing Tipperary PRO Ger Ryan well following his departure from the role and wished him well for the future. The meeting then went through the Election of Officers. All of the 2013 officers were re-elected en masse subject to County Board ratification. The Motions were next on the agenda. There was a lengthy debate on the Motions and there was general satisfaction with the outcome of each Motion. The meeting then went through the Gradings and dealt with those seeking re-grading. Most schools were happy with the outcome with regard to re-grading. The County Finals dates have been provisionally pencilled in for Thursday/Friday June 5th/6th. These dates need to be confirmed by the Semple Stadium Management committee. The Officer Board of Allianz Cumann na mBunscol stated that the dates for the County Finals would be relayed to all schools in the coming weeks. Chairman Paddy Kelly then closed the meeting, wishing everyone a safe journey home, and conveying best wishes to everyone in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol for 2014.
