COUNTY HURLING FINAL DVDS
Due to our County Finals now taking place on Tuesday/Wednesday June 17th/18th, County Final DVDs will have to be ordered from Michael Trehy (0862755805) by 4P.M. AT THE VERY LATEST ON THURSDAY 19TH JUNE after the finals. The principal/teacher in the school is responsible for taking the orders. The amount placed in your text/phone order is the amount of DVDs schools are obligated to pay for when Michael delivers the DVDs to schools. Single DVDs are €20. Double DVDs (for schools in 2 finals) are €30. Triple DVDs (for schools buying DVDs of 3 of their games) are €40. Please sign your text with teacher’s/principal’s name and also the DATE YOUR SCHOOL BREAKS UP FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Michael will be under severe time pressure due to the late staging of the finals and will endeavour to get DVDs out to all schools that place orders before they finish up. Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

SUBMISSION OF TEAMS FOR COUNTY HURLING FINALS (VERY IMPORTANT)
A chairde, Congrats to all schools who have reached County Finals which are scheduled to take place on June 17th/18th in Semple Stadium. By now all final pairings are known. It is very important that all schools adhere to certain formatting criteria when submitting team lists for this year’s Finals. It makes life much easier for myself, Sports Editors and the people on The Tipperary Yearbook committee if all teams are typed using the same format. We have a huge volume of teams involved this year; 56 Teams in total. All the teams are printed in the Tipp Yearbook and also appear in the Tipperary Newspapers’ special Co. Final Supplement/Spread. Please use the following criteria when sending in teams: Capital Letters for first letter of surname and Christian name. Number each player (They must wear this number on the day). Name of School & competition precedes team list e.g. Kerry CBS Under 13 Roinn G Hurling Team: 1. Tom Ryan, 2. Joe Ryan, 3. Liam King, 4. Mike Flynn, etc. The format should be just like above i.e. Name of School Team and Competition followed by a colon and a space. Then it’s number, full stop, player’s name, comma and a space. Just like above: e.g. Kerry CBS Under 13 Roinn G Hurling Team: 1. Tom Ryan, 2. Joe Ryan, 3. Liam King, 4. Mike Flynn, etc. No brackets are necessary after numbers. Font should be Verdana Style and size 10. Please list school principal and teachers/coaches after your panel e.g. 17. Tom Ryan, 18. Mike Quinn, 19. Liam Dunne. Principal: Joe Doyle. Coaches: Liam Egan & Mary Jones. DO NOT SEND IN TEAMS IN VERTICAL FORMAT PLEASE. Please put name of school team in subject bar of email e.g. Kerry CBS Under 13 Roinn G Hurling Team. Please get your team lists in to me ASAP. All team lists should be emailed to me on the day your team qualifies for the finals. There are 28 finals this year with 56 different team lists. We want all the children’s names to appear properly in reports for newspapers, website & Yearbook. If the formatting criteria is not adhered to, I’ll email you back to ask you to resend teams in the correct format. Your cooperation with this is much appreciated. Finalists who have not yet submitted team lists are asked to do so ASAP.

TEMPLEMORE TRIUMPH OVER SCOIL AILBHE BY RANG 5 ST.COLMCILLE’S
The rivalry between these two schools has being growing over the past number of years and while St. Colmcille’s could argue to being more successful in the football recently, the hurling accolade is without doubt in the hands of the boys from Thurles. These two great sporting schools have contested the hurling county final twice in the past three years with Scoil Ailbhe coming out on top on both occasions. However, if this most recent encounter is anything to go by, perhaps the ‘tide is a turning’. Scoil Ailbhe travelled to Templemore on Friday last in the knowledge that both schools had already done enough to qualify for the county semi-final stage. There was still much to fight for however. Top spot in the group guaranteed an easier passage to the county final and bragging rights were also up for grabs. With freshly cut grass, little wind and the sun shining, this was a perfect day for hurling. Scoil Ailbhe would score the first point of the game through their star player Eoin Purcell who was busy throughout the game. St. Colmcille’s replied with two points, one from Lorcan Roche and a second from a tigerish Conor Cadell who would end the day with five points in total. Templemore then took the game by the scruff of the neck as Marco Quinlan, playing arguably his best ever game in the green and white jersey, scored a goal and a point leaving the score 1-3 to 2 points at half time. Templemore had a contentious second goal disallowed just before the half time whistle which, if allowed, would surely have killed off this game. Scoil Ailbhe were not going down without a fight and spurred on by fine performances from Conor Stakelum and Kieran Costello, they picked off two well taken points. The danger of a comeback ignited the back six from Templemore and James Corcoran, Jack Nevin, Darragh Doyle, Stephen Cahill and Niall Moloney closed up shop at the back, restricting Scoil Ailbhe to only one more point for the remaining fifteen minutes. At this stage Martin Bergin had Eoin Purcell well under his control and this proved pivotal on the day. St. Colmcille’s pushed on with two well worked points from play. The manner of these two points will be of great encouragement to the Templemore coaches. Eoin Quinn and Diarmuid Delaney worked clever passes to create space for Roche and Quinlan to fire over in style. Gavin Coleman, Ewan Scott and Ali Aissou battled throughout, winning broken ball and forcing mistakes from the Thurles defenders. Four second half frees from Cadell ensured that this game would end with Templemore recording their first ever Roinn A Hurling victory over Scoil Ailbhe on a final score of 1-9 to 5 points. There was no trophy presented however and while St. Colmcille’s will cherish this victory, they know that there is still much work to do and Scoil Ailbhe have, by no means, gone away. Thurles now go on to play St. Mary’s, Clonmel in the first semi-final while St. Colmcille’s play Cashel in the other semi-final. Perhaps a rematch will be on the cards and who wouldn’t enjoy the chance to see these two fine teams meet again in the county final in Semple Stadium.

REPORTER OF THE WEEK
Schools are reminded and encouraged to send news and updates of their progress in the hurling championships for the coming season. Reports on upcoming challenge games would be hugely appreciated. Reports should include, in as much as possible, school names, referee, venue, final score and a balanced account of the match. A Reporter of the Week will be chosen and their work included in the weekly report. Please ensure all reports are a single paragraph in Verdana 10 type. All submissions should be proof-read by the teacher before submission.
