Last Saturday July 9th Leahy Park, Cashel hosted our last championship football finals of the year. Down for decision were both the U 16 A & B with mid champions Moycarkey Borris and Inane Rovers from the north both chasing their first A title. In the B championship Boherlahan Dualla also representing the mid division were up against Rockwell Rosegreen from the west.

The games which are sponsored by Tipperary Co-Op got underway @ 12 noon with the B final on the whistle of referee Sean Lonergan from Moyle Rovers club. Ironically the Boherlahan team were out to bridge a ten year gap for the mid division as their divisional colleagues who were battling for the A title, Moycarkey were the last mid team to bring back the B title in 2006.

The mid boys were first off the block with a point after three minutes. Two minutes later Padraic Ryan had another point to increase the mid tally. Rockwell Rosegreen responded with points from play by Harry Tobin and Andrew Moloney to level matters with fifteen minutes on clock. The Boherlahan Dualla response was swift as Padraic Ryan had the west net rattled for the opening goal of the day and quickly added a point to put some light between the sides on 1-3 to 0-2 However not to be outdone the Rockwell Rosegreen team had the mid net rattled with a goal courtesy of Mark Downey and saw his next attempt go narrowly off target as he tried to level matters. During the closing minutes of the opening half it was Boherlahan that went on a scoring blitz as joint captain Cian Bargary goaled, followed by another from Stephen Walsh and accompanied by a point from Cian Bargary for an interval score reading Boherlahan Dualla 3-4 Rockwell Rosegreen 1-2.

Upon the resumption it was continued dominance by the mid contenders as they added a further 2-5 while conceding 1-6 to win the contest and the title on a concluding score line of Boherlahan Dualla 5-9 Rockwell Rosegreen 2-8.

Chairman Tom Dawson thanked both teams for a good sporting game and acknowledged the referee, his officials and also the host club Cashel King Cormacs. Both Tom Dawson and Tipperary Co-Op representative Kieran Maguire presented the trophy to victorious joint captains Cian Bargary and Niall O’Dwyer.

Next up was the A final with Moycarkey Borris against Inane Rovers which commenced @ 1.45pm with referee Richard O’Connor from Arravale Rovers policing the contest. Inane got a brilliant start as Owen Tynan had the Moycarkey net rattled inside the two minute mark. Three minutes later Darren Flood pointed a free for Moycarkey’s opening score. The next two attempts went a begging for Inane as did one for Moycarkey before the mid supporters had some reason to be cheerful as corner back Kevin Hayes pointed for Moycarkey. It was quickly accompanied by another from Max Hackett from play to level proceedings on the nineteenth minute. By the twenty-seventh minute, the mid boys had edged ahead courtesy of points from their midfield pairing Jack Fallon and Jack Morrissey. With the game entering added time the north supporters had good reason to rejoice as Inane were awarded a penalty which was duly crashed to the net and just prior to the final whistle of the half, James Synott had another Rovers goal to put them in command at the interval on a score reading Inane Rovers 3-0 Moycarkey Borris 0-5.

After three minutes in the second period, Moycarkey had a dream start as Darren Flood crashed the ball to the Inane net. They had another pointed addition to their tally by John Kirwan to level proceedings for the second time, 3-0 to 1-6. The mid men had upped their game now but saw their next two opportunities going off target. On the ninth minute Inane got their fourth goal from the effort of James Synott and was quickly added too by a point from Darragh Tynan to give Rovers a four point advantage 4-1 to 1-6. Moycarkey replied with a point from James Dillon. Inane missed a chance to cancel the point and the mid men were on the run again with two quick points from Max Hackett and Darren Flood to reduce the deficit to two points and another Inane point from Darragh Tynan with fifteen minutes registered of the second half.

However the mid challengers were not for giving up and had three points without reply courtesy of two by Darren Flood from frees and one from Jack Morrissey to put the score reading – Inane Rovers 4-2 Moycarkey Borris 1-11. The next two chances of adding to the north boys tally went off the mark and Moycarkey reduced the difference by another point from Kyle Shelly as the game was entering the last five minute slot. Once again another missed opportunity for the north men on twenty seventh minute. Moycarkey were now trying hard and their efforts got the rewards as the Inane net was shaking for the second time as Kyle Shelly found the target to put the score reading Inane Rovers 4-2 Moycarkey Borris 2-12. for a two point advantage for the mid men, Moycarkey had quick points from Kevin Hayes and Jack Fallon to go six points ahead with time running out.
