Mid Tipperary GAA Scene – April 28th 2015

All Ireland U21 Football final: Best of luck to the Tipperary Under 21 football panel and management who are putting the finishing touches to preparations for the All Ireland final when they face Tyrone in Parnell Park on Saturday next with throw in at 6pm. JK Brackens’ Colin O Riordan captains the side and is joined in the squad by Dean McEnroe and Upperchurch Drombane’s Paul Shanahan.

Centenary Agri Mid Senior Hurling Championship: The first round of the Centenary Agri Mid Senior hurling championship will take place on the weekend of the 17th & 18th of May. In the opening round Drom-Inch face rivals Thurles Sarsfields in the opening game of group C while Upperchurch Drombane face Holycross Ballycahill in Group B and Moycarkey Borris will meet Boherlahan Dualla in the first match of Group A.

Roadstone Mid Senior Football Championship: The first game in this year’s Roadstone Mid Senior Football Championship sees Moycarkey Borris face Drom-Inch in the Preliminary Round on Friday 1st May in Littleton at 7pm. This promises to be a very close game with Moycarkey Borris having run County champions Loughmore Castleiney to a point in the County Championship last week while 2014 County Intermediate football champions Drom-Inch will face a new experience playing senior football. On the same night Loughmore Castleiney face Moyne Templetuohy in the first of the Mid Semi finals.

Minor A Football Championship: Drom-Inch recorded the narrowest of wins over JK Brackens to keep their 100% record intact and ensure top spot in the group stage. Thurles Sarsfields recorded their second win of the group stage when they defeated Holycross Ballycahill. The last round of group games are due to be played this Wednesday with the semi finals fixed for the 13th May.

Minor B Football Championship: Loughmore Castleiney kept their 100% record with a victory over Upperchurch Drombane and will finish in top spot. Gortnahoe Glengoole and Upperchurch Drombane are next with 4 points and both sides meet each other in the next round while Moyne Templetuohy and Thurles Gaels will battle it out for the remaining semi final spot. As in the A grade the semi finals are pencilled in for Wednesday the 13th May.

Junior Hurling League: Thurles Sarsfields and Moyne Templetuohy lead the way in Division 1 of the junior league with 4 points with Loughmore Castleiney, Drom – Inch and Upperchurch Drombane all on 2 points with 1 round of games to play. In the Division 2 league, there are 3 teams on 4 points, JK Brackens, Thurles Gaels and Thurles Sarsfields. Thurles Gaels have played all their games while JK Brackens have 2 games left while the rest have one game left to play. In the Division 3 league Boherlahan Dualla have a 100% record and are guaranteed a spot in the semi finals while Clonakenny and Killea are on 3 points while Gortnahoe Glengoole, Thurles Gaels and Knock all have 2 points.

Higher Education Rising Stars: Well done to Paul Maher of Moyne Templetuohy who was selected as goalkeeper on the HE GAA Independent.ie Rising stars Hurling team of the year following his performances for University of Limerick during their success Fitzgibbon Cup campaign. Tipperary were well represented on the team with 4 other representatives on the hurling team (Tom Fox, Tommy Heffernan, Jason Forde and Brian Stapleton) as well as 1 player (Stephen O Brien) on the football side.
