Michael O Dwyer Memorial Cup

South Regional Under 14 Hurling Tournament

(A teams v Combination teams)

To create more Hurling Fixtures in an effort to promote hurling in our Division came a proposal from Skeheenarinky and St. Patrick’s. Discussed at the adjourned AGM and adopted by the Delegates of South Bord na nOg, The South Regional U14 Hurling Tournament was born.

It was agreed that in order for this Tournament to have any ‘puck’ at all, it would need to have some value and prestige attached to it and no better way to do this than to have a Trophy dedicated to someone who contributed enormously to the Juvenile Board in South Division.
No better person to honour in it’s fruition than the Late Michael O Dwyer of Fethard.
Michael, an avid GAA man, was a Member of the South Bord na nOg for many years, serving on the Board until 2013. Michael also sponsored our Championships from the beginning.

All that remained was to set it up, with the expertise and hard work of our New GDA, Paudie Malone along with the co-operation of all participating Clubs, it was agreed that the A teams of, St. Mary’s, Moyle Rovers, Ballingarry, Cahir & Carrick Swans would play the combination teams of
(Newcastle/Skeheenarinky/Ballylooby/Fr.Sheehy’s/Ballybacon Grange), (Kilsheelan, Grangemockler Ballyneale/Carrick Davins), (Clonmel Og/Clerihan) & (Killenaule/Fethard/St.Patrick’s) in a Group Phase, starting on Thursday 4th September on a home and away basis. Followed by a knockout phase and Final.

Coaches from the clubs in the combination teams, along with a small group of players from each club in the Combi teams will meet and train with the other clubs in their combi teams. In the Combi teams only players born 2000 and 2001 can play, while in the A teams, all those eligible to play Under 14 will be allowed to play.
