Leinster Minor Football League (Round 1)

Sunday February 9th

Tipperary v Longford

Pearse Pk, Longford

Longford 2-12 Tipperary 0-6

Tipperary’s Minor Footballers travelled to Pearse Pk Longford on Sunday last for a first round Leinster League clash with Longford but unable to match the sheer physical strength of the home team had to settle for the runners up spot on a score line of 2-12 to Tipp’s 0-6.

Longford who built up a 1-7 to 0-3 lead at the break continued to push forward in the second half and helped by a dominant mid field partnership went on to add a further 1-5 while limiting Tipp to just three points.

With two more games to come against Wicklow and Louth, both games away, the Leinster League is certainly an ideal platform to test players capabilities and one has only to go back to 2011 when Tipp lost all their games in the Leinster League yet went on to create history by defeating Dublin in the All Ireland Final.

Next up for Tipp is against Wicklow this Sunday February 15th at a Wicklow venue.
