DOUBLE ALL-IRELAND GLORY FOR TIPPERARY

Saturday 25th April 2015 will go down in history as Tipperary brought home two All-Ireland Scór Sinsir honours to Newport and J.K. Brackens. Citywest Hotel, Dublin hosted the national Scór finals and we travelled there with high hopes of success and good fortune. Competitors with their hundreds of supporters painted the auditorium with club and county colours. Cheers and applause could be heard all the way to Tipperary when the results were announced and Noel Joyce from the J.K.Bracken’s club won the recitation with his original composition of “Mammy’s Day out in Tramore”. Unadulterated joy was to follow when Newport were announced winners of the Instrumental Music competition, a competition which had eluded them so often in the past. Comhghairdeas to the group members Ruairí Floyd, Áine O’Malley, Brian McAuliffe, Niamh Floyd and Louise Ryan.

We were also represented in three other competitions; Moyne Templetuohy in Tráth na gceist, Newport in Ballad Grúpa, Ella Stapleton of Upperchurch in Amhránaíocht Aonar. Though victory was not theirs on the day, they can be justifiably proud of their performances. No doubt, they will return next year to compete again at this level.

Homecomings were held in Upperchurch, Newport and Clonmore on Sunday evening as these clubs feted their local heroes. A sincere thank you to all those who in any way helped to bring the Scór year to such a wonderful conclusion, competitors, mentors, supporters and committees alike.
