Eoin Kelly Appointed Tipperary Minor Hurling Manager

2026 FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships
The Preliminary Quarter Finals across the Senior, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate and Junior ‘A’ grades along with the Senior and Premier Intermediate Relegation Semi Finals took place last weekend, producing plenty of excitement and drama across the various championships.
Senior Hurling Championship
FBD Semple Stadium played host to the Senior Quarter Finals last Saturday. The opening game was an entertaining affair as Moycarkey Borris battled back in the final ten minutes to claim a 3-23 to 2-22 victory over Kiladangan. Moycarkey Borris hit 1-7 without reply during a seven minute spell late in the game to secure the win. The second game of the double header saw Thurles Sarsfields record a comfortable 3-22 to 1-18 victory over Borris-Ileigh. Sarsfields led 2-12 to 0-7 at half time and were always in control.

Another double header took place on Sunday. Nenagh Éire Óg recorded an impressive 3-29 to 0-21 victory over Cashel King Cormacs. Éire Óg were on top from the start and led by eleven points at half time. JK Brackens produced another impressive performance as they accounted for Holycross Ballycahill, who had knocked out county champions Loughmore Castleiney the previous weekend. Brackens made a strong start and led by six points approaching the closing stages of the first half but Holycross finished strongly to level the scores at half time. It remained a tit-for-tat contest early in the second half, but a Lyndon Fairbrother goal put Brackens four points ahead midway through the half. Their lead stretched to seven with five minutes remaining but Holycross refused to give up and reduced the deficit to a single point. Brackens held on for a famous 2-23 to 0-28 victory.
The Senior Semi Final draw took place last Sunday evening in FBD Semple Stadium. Nenagh Éire Óg will face Thurles Sarsfields on Saturday 26th September at 3.45 pm in FBD Semple Stadium while JK Brackens face Moycarkey Borris on Sunday 27th September at 3.45 pm, also in FBD Semple Stadium. Two exciting Semi Finals await.
The Relegation Semi Finals also took place last Sunday. Upperchurch Drombane secured their Senior status for 2027 after an impressive 0-23 to 0-17 victory over Roscrea. Church were on top for much of the game and led 0-9 to 0-5 at the break. In the other Semi Final, Clonoulty Rossmore held out for a 2-19 to 1-18 victory over CJ Kickhams Mullinahone. The West side led by two points at half time with a second half goal from Stephen Ferncombe proving a major contribution to their victory. Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Quarter Finals took place last weekend and served up some excellent contests.
Podge O’Dwyer was the match winner in Cashel on Saturday with the Killenaule defender pointing a long range effort to secure a narrow 0-21 to 0-20 victory over Boherlahan Dualla. It was a pulsating contest with the sides level on eleven occasions and never more than three points separating them. Three games took place on Sunday. St Mary’s were in control throughout as they defeated Moyne Templetuohy comfortably on a 3-22 to 0-12 scoreline.
A strong second half performance from Thurles Sarsfields helped them to a 1-23 to 1-20 victory over Golden Kilfeacle. Golden led by a goal at the interval, but Sarsfields produced an excellent second half, with a goal from Pa Bourke helping to turn the game in their favour. The final game was a classic, with Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill eventually emerging as 1-27 to 3-19 winners over Lorrha Dorrha. Lorrha led for much of the game with the aid of their goals but a late goal from Kev Fox looked to have secured victory for Éire Óg. Lorrha levelled the game but two late points from Aidan Griffin secured the win for the West side.

The Premier Intermediate Relegation Semi Finals took place last weekend with two closely contested games. Templederry Kenyons started strongly against Ballina, with an early goal, but Ballina responded well and led 0-18 to 2-8 at half time. Two goals from Seán Ryan kept Templederry in the contest but despite their best efforts in a tight second half they were unable to close the gap as Ballina held out for a 0-29 to 2-21 victory.
The following day, Silvermines produced a good performance to defeat Carrick Swan 1-21 to 1-19. A Jason Forde penalty helped the Mines to a four point lead at half time. The North side extended their advantage to six points entering the closing stage but Carrick Swan battled gamely and were unable to overturn the deficit.

Ballingarry had a comfortable 2-23 to 1-14 victory over Clonakenny leading by five points at half time.
