Disappointment for Tipperary as the lost to Cork in the All Ireland minor semi final in Kilmallock on Saturday last. Tipperary playing against a strong breeze were first off the mark with a fine point by Roisin Cahill however Cork replied with two quick points whilst Tipperary were guilty of three poor wides all this in the first 6 minutes of the game. Tipperary were playing some fine camogie with Courtney Ryan and Jenny Grace along with Mairead Teehan driving Tipp forward, from this pressure Tipp’s Roisin Howard broke through the Cork defence and scored a fine goal.

Cork with the breeze gradually put pressure on the Tipp defence and forced Tipp to give away frees which Corks Rachel O’Shea converted. An outstanding save from Tipperary’s goalie Caoimhe Bourke diving full stretch to pull off a great save relieved some of the pressure from Tipp’s defence but in the 19th minute Tipperary failed to clear and Corks Linda Collins scored a fine goal. Cork scored two more points before Tipp’s captain Mairead Teehan pointed followed by a fine point from Roisin Howard, then in added time Tipp’s defence was breached as Linda Collins scored her second goal. Half time Tipperary 1-04 Cork 2-07.

Tipperary were quick out of the blocks scoring three unanswered point from Roisin Howard, Miriam Campion and Jenny Grace followed by a tremendous solo run and point from Lorna O’Dwyer. Tipperary were on a great run with Cork under severe pressure, Tipp’s Miriam Campion received a great ball from Roisin Cahill and scored a fine goal. However from the puckout Cork fed the ball to Linda Collins who had been giving Tipp’s defence a torrid time blasted the ball into the net.

Tipperary kept fighting and points by Roisin Cahill, Mairead Teehan and Jenny Grace kept the pressure on Cork, with two minutes to go there was only two points between Cork and Tipp but in the final minute Cork scored the final point of the match and sealed the game. This was a disappointing result for a fine Tipperary team but they never gave up and were close to forcing a replay, well done girls.
