Junior ‘B’ Football Championship
The County Junior ‘B’ Football Championship Final will take place this coming Saturday at 2.00 pm in The Ragg where Upperchurch Drombane face Thurles Gaels.
Premier Junior Football Championship
Well done to CJ Kickhams Mullinahone who were crowned County Premier Junior Football Champions following a 4-11 to 1-13 victory over Fr Sheehys in Fethard Town Park last Friday evening.
It was a fine game of football with the sides level at 1-6 apiece at half time. Eoin O’Dwyer opened the goal account for Mullinahone in the 18th minute before Daire English replied with a goal for Fr Sheehys four minutes later. Fr Sheehys made a strong start to the second half and moved three points clear but Mullinahone fought back with a goal from Ned O’Meara to bring the sides level once again. The teams continued to trade scores and remained deadlocked heading into the closing stages. Mullinahone finished the stronger with O’Meara edging his side ahead before two late goals from Eoin O’Dwyer sealed victory. Graham Horan had the honour of lifting the cup as victorious captain while Ned O’Meara was named as Clubber man of the match.
Mullinahone now turn their attention to the Munster Junior Football Championship where they will face the Limerick champions, Monagea or Athea, in the Quarter Final on Saturday 7th November.
Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship
Well done to Newport, who claimed the FBD Insurance County Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship title last Saturday afternoon in MacDonagh Park Nenagh following a dramatic 3-8 to 1-12 victory over Ballina in dreadful conditions with wind and rain making life difficult for both sides.
Ballina made an excellent start to the contest and led by 1-7 to 0-1 when Gary Slevin found the net in the 18th minute. The Shannonsiders looked comfortable for much of the opening half before Cormac Shanahan turned the game on its head scoring two goals in the space of a minute to give Newport renewed hope. Two further points saw Newport take an unlikely 2-5 to 1-8 draw into the break. With conditions worsening in the second half, scores were at a premium and every point proved crucial. Newport held a one point advantage heading into injury time but an excellent score from Gary Slevin brought Ballina level and set up a dramatic finish. From the resultant puck out, Newport sent the ball towards the square where a scramble ensued before Shanahan pounced to fire home his third goal of the afternoon and secure a remarkable victory for Newport. Ballina had one final opportunity to rescue the game but their effort went over the bar as Newport held on to claim the title. Hat trick hero Cormac Shanahan was named Clubber Man of the Match while Conor Keating had the honour of captaining Newport to victory.
