West U21 Football Championships:
The pairings for the McGrath Oil West U21B Football championship semi-finals are now known.
In Group 1 Cappawhite/Treacys had a comfortable victory over Eire Og Annacarty Donohill on Sunday last in Kilcommon and in doing so set up a semi-final against Group 2 winners Golden/Kilfeacle. Match Report
In Group 2 Aherlow Gaels have withdrawn from the competition meaning Clonoulty/Rossmore advance to a semi-final against Group 1 winners Cashel King Cormacs. The semi-finals are fixed for this Thursday St. Patrick’s day at 12 noon. There is a provision for extra-time in both games should the sides finish level after 60 minutes.

In the McGrath Oil West U21A Football Rockwell/Rosegreen have withdrawn from the competition. This means Galtee/Emly will play Arravale Rovers in this year’s decider. The McGrath Oil West U21A Football final will take place this Sunday March 20th in what will be the 57th running of the competition. The game will have a 12 noon throw in and extra-time will be played in the event of a draw.
Galtee/Emly go into their second final together as defending champions having defeated Arravale Rovers in last years final. A late David Finnane point on the day securing victory for the combination in a tight game. Arravale Rovers will be playing in their 30th final in the competition. They top the roll of honour having won the title on 14 previous occasions, their last title coming in 2013.
Galtee/Rovers have played in 12 finals in their own right are second in the roll of honour with 10 titles having last won the competition in 2004. Emly will be playing in their 13th final as a combination. They won 5 titles in a row between 1982 and 1986 when joined with Lattin/Cullen while also were victorious with Aherlow in 1960. Their most recent success came 12 months ago when joined with Galtee Rovers.
Emly played in their only final in the competition in 1959 which was the first running of the competition. They were defeated by Arravale Rovers in the final.
Three years ago at Minor level Arravale Rovers were victorious in the West A final defeating the combination of Eire Og/Galtee by five points 1-11 to 1-6. When the sides met two weeks ago in Bansha it was the combination who had a comfortable victory over Arravale Rovers. The winners will play the Mid champions in this year’s County semi-final.
Minor Football Championship:
The West Minor A and B Football Championships commence on Wednesday March 30th with round 2 taking place on April 6th. In round 1 of the A Championship, Clonoulty/Rossmore are at home to Arravale Rovers while defending champions Galtee/Golden are at home to Emly/Treacys.
In Group 1 of the B championship Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams are at home to Cappawhite Gaels while in Group 2 Eire Og Annacarty Donohill are at home to Rockwell/Rosegreen.
Abbey CBS:
Well done to the Abbey CBS who defeated Scoil Mhuire, Johnstown in the semi-final of the All Ireland Colleges B Hurling championship on Friday last in Cashel. They will now play Saint Louis Grammer School Ballymena in the final on Easter Monday in Semple Stadium. Match Report
Munster U21 Football Championship:
Commiserations to our West representatives and to the Tipperary U21 football players and management who were narrowly defeated by Kerry in the Munster quarter final on Wednesday night last in Tralee.
Referees:
Well done to Fergal Horgan who took charge of Cork and Kilkenny in the Allianz Hurling League last Saturday night. Also well done to John O’Brien who got a late call up to take charge of Kildare and Westmeath in the Allianz Hurling League.
