West U21 Hurling Championship:
Cappawhite/Sean Treacys are the O’Dwyer Steel West U21A Hurling champions for 2015 following victory over Clonoulty/Rossmore in the final on Saturday last in Lisvernane. Match Report
It was a first success for the combination in the A grade and follows on from their B success in 2014. The following day they travelled to Bansha to take on Carrick Swans in the County semi-final and a very strong performance saw them advance to a County final meeting with Thurles Sarsfields.
The County final has been fixed for this Sunday at 2pm in Bansha. Extra-time will be played in the event of both teams being level after the 60 minutes. Cappawhite/Sean Treacys will be looking to become the first West team to bring home the Dwan Cup since Cappawhite did so in 1999. Thomas Costello captained the Cappawhite team on that occasion. Incidentally they also drew the West final with Clonoulty/Rossmore, winning the replay before defeating Burgess in the County semi-final after a replay. They defeated Mullinahone in the County final on February 6th 2000 in Semple Stadium 2-12 to 2-11. Thomas Costello collected the trophy from County Board Chairman Con Hogan on the day.
The Dwan Cup has come to the West on 6 previous occasions, Cappawhite (1965, 1999), Cappawhite/Eire Og (1977), Cashel King Cormacs (1991), Kickhams (1994), Golden/Kilfeacle (1998). Cappawhite/Treacys will be looking to bring it to the West for a seventh time and the first time since the turn of the millennium.
County U21B Hurling Championship:
Lattin/Cullen Gaels bowed out of the Clean Ireland Recycling County U21B Hurling Championship on Saturday last when they were defeated by three points when they came up against Killenaule in the County semi-final in Clonmel.
Munster Junior B Hurling Championship:
Best of luck to Eire Og Annacarty Donohill who will take on Shanballymore (Cork) in the Munster Junior B Hurling Final this Sunday January 24th at 2pm in Raheenagh. Eire Og defeated Dunhill of Waterford after extra-time in the semi-final back in December. Shanballymore qualified for the final with victory over Broadford in their semi-final also in December.
Eire Og will be looking to become the 4th Tipperary team to win the Munster championship and keep the trophy in the County following Killenaule’s success last year.
