West Tipperary GAA Scene – August 30th 2016

West Intermediate Hurling Championship:
Two of the quarter finals of this year’s Tipperary Credit Union West Intermediate Hurling Championship took place at the weekend.

Sean Treacys qualified for their third semi-final in four years with victory over Arravale Rovers. Match Report

Defending champions Cashel King Cormacs booked their semi-final spot with a comfortable victory over Rockwell Rovers. Match Report

The two remaining quarter finals will take place on Wednesday September 7th. Golden/Kilfeacle will take on Cappawhite in Annacarty while Galtee Rovers take on Lattin/Cullen Gaels in New Inn. Both games throw in at 6pm with the provision for extra-time should either game finish level.

Following Sundays quarter-finals the draw for the semi-finals took place in Kickhams clubhouse in Dundrum. Sunday’s quarter final winners Sean Treacys and Cashel King Cormacs will meet in Sean Treacy Park on Saturday September 10th at 6pm. The following day at 1.45pm in Dundrum Cappawhite or Golden/Kilfeacle will take on Galtee Rovers or Lattin/Cullen Gaels.

West Intermediate Football Championship:
The first game in this year’s Rea Clarke Hennessy West Intermediate Football championship took place on Wednesday evening last as Rockwell Rovers got the better of neighbours Cashel King Cormacs. Match Report

The action continues in New Inn at 6.30pm on Wednesday evening as last year’s West and County Junior A football champions Golden/Kilfeacle enter the fray when they take on Cashel King Cormacs. Having lost their opening game, Cashel must get something out of this to remain in the hunt for a final spot. Victory for Golden/Kilfeacle will put them through to the final with Rockwell Rovers. Victory for Cashel will see the final places decided by the last group game between Rockwell Rovers and Golden/Kilfeacle.

West Junior A Football Championship:
The AIB Tipperary West Junior A Football championship Final takes centre stage this Friday night September 2nd in Cappawhite at 8pm. Sean Treacys and Clonoulty/Rossmore go head to head in the 87th running of the competition. Sean Treacys booked their place in this year’s decider with victory over last year’s finalists Emly on Tuesday evening in Sean Treacy Park. Match Report

Clonoulty/Rossmore will be playing in their 9th final and their first since 2000. They have won the competition on seven previous occasions 1930 (Knockavilla/Rossmore), 1931, 1965, 1969, 1985, 1994, 1996 and 2000.

Sean Treacys will be playing in their 5th final and will be looking for title number two in the grade having won their maiden title in 2012 with victory over Arravale Rovers. Since coming up from Junior B in 2009 they have contested four of the last six finals.

Both Sean Treacys and Clonoulty/Rossmore lost their opening group games to Cappawhite and Emly respectively. Sean Treacys recovered to defeat Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams in their final group game and followed up with a semi-final victory over Emly. Clonoulty/Rossmore defeated Rosegreen and followed this up with a semi-final victory over Cappawhite.

West Junior A Hurling Championship:
The Gleeson Concrete West Junior A Hurling final between Emly and Clonoulty/Rossmore has now been re-fixed for Wednesday September 7th at 7.30pm in Clonoulty.

West Junior B Football Championship:
The Rea Clarke Hennessy West Junior B football championship Group 2 re-fixture takes place this Friday September 2nd as Solohead meet Rockwell Rovers in Solohead at 6.30pm. The winner will go through to the semi-finals of the competition where they will face the group 1 winners Galtee Rovers.

West Senior Hurling Championship:
Round 2 of the Tipperary Co-Op West Senior Hurling Championship takes place on Wednesday September 7th at 6pm in Clonoulty as Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams take on Eire Og Annacarty Donohill. The final round will take place on Sunday September 11th which sees Eire Og Annacarty Donohill take on Clonoulty/Rossmore in Dundrum at 3.30pm. The final is fixed for Sunday September 18th.

West Minor B Hurling Championship:
Cashel King Cormacs and Eire Og Annacarty Donohill meet in the 33rd Bewleys West Minor B Hurling Final this Saturday evening at 5pm in Golden. Cashel will be looking to complete a Minor B Hurling and Football double having won the Minor B Football championship earlier in the year. They will be looking to become just the 4th club to achieve such a feat – Golden/Kilfeacle 1987, 2009, 2010. Aherlow 2004. Eire Og Annacarty Donohill 1998.

It will be a first final meeting between the sides. The sides met in the group phase of the competition with Cashel King Cormacs just edging proceedings by two points. Both sides had comfortable victories over Rockwell/Rosegreen in their remaining group games. Match report from when sides met earlier this year

Eire Og Annacarty Donohill will be appearing in their 7th final and a first final appearance since 2012 when they were defeated by Arravale Rovers. Eire Og will be looking for title number four in the grade having last won the competition in 2006 defeating Aherlow. For Cashel this will be their first appearance in the Minor B Hurling final.

West U21A Hurling Championship:
The O’Dwyer Steel West U21A Hurling championship commences this Saturday September 3rd as Arravale Rovers take on Golden/Kilfeacle in Bansha at 6pm.
Golden/Kilfeacle were beaten Minor A finalists three years ago while Arravale Rovers were defeated by 2013 champions Eire Og/Galtee Rovers at the semi-final stage.
When the sides met in the group phase of the Minor A championship three years ago on 6th August 2013 Arravale Rovers recorded a 4-11 to 1-10 victory in Sean Treacy Park.

The West U21A Hurling championship will be run on a knockout/losers group basis.
The Round 1 draw sees Cappawhite/Sean Treacys open the defence of their title against the winners of this preliminary round game. While Galtee/Emly take on 2015 finalists Clonoulty/Rossmore.

County Senior Football Championship:
The County Senior Football championship resumed last Wednesday night.

In Group 1 Arravale Rovers got the better of Cahir in Cashel but lose out on top spot in the group to Kilsheelan/Kilcash who defeated Upperchurch/Drombane. Arravale Rovers will now play in the preliminary quarter final and Kilsheelan/Kilcash take the quarter final spot.

In Group 4 Aherlow Gaels defeated Ardfinnan in Golden. The result coupled with Moyle Rovers victory over Drom/Inch saw the three team’s level on four points, though it wasn’t enough for Aherlow Gaels to qualify from the group.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship:
In Group 6 Golden/Kilfeacle were defeated by Newport last Wednesday evening in Annacarty. Golden/Kilfeacle finish bottom of the group and will have to win the West championship to gain entry to the County knockout stages and avoid relegation.

Tipperary Senior & Minor Hurlers:
Best of luck to the Tipperary Senior and Minor hurlers in their respective All Ireland hurling finals against Kilkenny and Limerick respectively in Croke Park this Sunday.
