West Tipperary GAA Scene – August 2nd 2016

By Jonathan Cullen Tue 2nd Aug

West Intermediate Hurling Championship:
The quarter finals of this year’s Tipperary Credit Union West Intermediate Hurling Championship are fixed for this weekend.

First up on Friday night sees last year’s finalists Galtee Rovers taking on Lattin/Cullen Gaels. The sides met just a few weeks back in the group stages of the County championship where Lattin/Cullen Gaels had just a point to spare over their neighbours. Both sides are through to the knockout stages of the County championship but both will certainly want to advance in this year’s divisional championship. This game is fixed for Sean Treacy Park and will throw in at 6.45pm.

On Saturday night in Dundrum we have a repeat of this year’s Crosco Cup final as Cappawhite take on Golden/Kilfeacle. In the Crosco Cup final it was Cappawhite who came out on top. Both sides have a game left in the group stages of this year’s County championship with both sides having a chance to qualify for the knockout stages. Cappawhite will know where they stand as they play their final game on Wednesday night. This game has a 6.45pm throw in.

There is a double header in Dundrum on Sunday evening. First up at 5pm, 2015 champions Cashel King Cormacs put their crown on the line when they take on Rockwell Rovers. Cashel King Cormacs finished bottom of their group in the County championship and must win the West championship to return to the County championship and to avoid being involved in the relegation. Depending on their result on Wednesday night in the County Championship Rockwell Rovers may have already qualified or may need to win the West Championship to advance further. So this has all the makings of a great game.

Second up on Sunday evening is the meeting of Arravale Rovers and Sean Treacys at 6.45pm. It will be the second meeting of the sides this year. Sean Treacys came out on top when the sides met in the group stages of the County championship a few months back. Sean Treacys have advanced to the knockout stages of the County championship while Arravale Rovers finished bottom of their group and must win the West division to advance further as well as avoiding a relegation battle. It will be a first meeting of the sides in the West Championship since the sides clashed in the 2013 final – Arravale Rovers bridging a 16 year gap on the day to win the title. There is a provision for extra-time in all games should they finish level after sixty minutes.

West Junior B Hurling Championship:
The semi-finals of the Tipperary Co-Op West Junior B hurling championship have been fixed for Saturday August 20th. Arravale Rovers will take on Solohead in Cappawhite while Galtee Rovers will take on Cashel King Cormacs in New Inn. Both games will throw in at 6.30pm.

West Senior Hurling Championship:
The Tipperary Co-Op West Senior Hurling Championship game between Eire Og Annacarty Donohill and Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams fixed for Tuesday August 2nd has been postponed and will be re-fixed for a later date.

Minor Hurling:
The semi-finals of this year’s Joe Hayes Cleanline West Minor A Hurling Championship have been fixed for Wednesday August 17th. Cappawhite Gaels will meet Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams in Annacarty while Emly/Treacys will meet Clonoulty/Rossmore in Cappawhite. Both games have a 6pm throw in.

O’Donoghue Cup:
The replay of this Michael Devlin Solicitors O’Donoghue Cup semi-final between Galtee/Rovers and Rockwell Rovers was postponed on Saturday night and will be re fixed. Arravale Rovers await the winners in the final.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship:
In Group 2 Cappawhite take on Rockwell Rovers in Cashel this Wednesday August 3rd at 7.30pm. A draw or a win will guarantee Cappawhite second spot in the group and a place in the knockout stages. Rockwell Rovers must win to have any chance of qualifying. If they win they will go level on points with Cappawhite and Roscrea and score difference will decide the final placings in the group.

Tipperary Senior Footballers:
Congratulations to the Tipperary Senior Footballers on a superb victory over Galway in the quarter final of the All Ireland Senior Football championship last Sunday in Croke Park, bridging an 81 year gap in reaching the semi-finals.

Tipperary U21 Hurlers:
