West Tipperary GAA Scene – August 18th 2015

West Senior Hurling Championship:
The Tipperary Co-Op West Senior Hurling Championship Final between Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams and Eire Óg Annacarty Donohill will take place this Sunday August 23rd at 2.30pm in Cashel. Link to West Final Preview

West Intermediate Hurling Championship:
The second of this year’s semi-finals has been rearranged for Tuesday August 18th in Dundrum. Golden/K and Galtee Rovers go head to head with a 6.30pm throw in. Extra-time will be played in the event of a draw. Both sides were victorious in round 1 of the competition defeating Arravale Rovers and Rockwell Rovers respectively. Golden/K are unbeaten in West and County championship so far in 2015 winning one and drawing three of their County championship games. They have qualified for the Preliminary quarter finals through the county group stage. Galtee Rovers won three of the five County Championship matches and were defeated in two, finishing third in their group. Galtee Rovers will be looking to qualify for the final for the first time since 2010 while Golden/K were narrowly beaten in the 2014 decider.

The winners will play Cashel King Cormacs in the final which is fixed for New Inn this Saturday evening with a 6.30pm throw in. Extra-time will be played in the event of a draw.

West Junior A Hurling Championship:
On Tuesday last Clonoulty/R defeated Emly in Solohead. The defeat saw Emly’s involvement ended in the competition for 2015. Link to match report. Clonoulty/Rossmore will now play Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams in the final.

West Minor Hurling Championship:
In the Dundrum House Hotel West Minor A Hurling Championship Emly/Treacys received a walkover from Rockwell/Rosegreen. The result means Rockwell/Rosegreen can no longer qualify for the semis finals. Clonoulty/R, Galtee/Golden, Emly/Treacys and Arravale/Eire Og now qualify for the semi-finals. The remaining games in the group will decide the pairings.

On Wednesday night August 19th in Kilcommon Emly/Treacys take on Arravale/Eire Og with a 6.30pm throw in. Both sides have two points with Arravale/Eire Og having played a game more. This will be Arravale/Eire Og’s last group game. Clonoulty/R and Galtee/Golden meet in Clonoulty on Friday night August 21st at 7pm. Both sides will go into the game unbeaten. Clonoulty top the group on six points from three games while Galtee/Golden have four points from two games. A win for Clonoulty/R will see them finish top of the group.

In the Bewley’s West Minor B Hurling Championship the semi-final between Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams and Lattin/Cullen Gaels will take place on August 26th in Sean Treacy Park with a 6.30pm throw in.

West Junior B Hurling Championship:
The semi-finals of the Tipperary Co-Op Super Valu West Junior B Hurling Championship took place on Saturday last.
In Sean Treacy Park Eire Og defeated Solohead to qualify for the final. Link to match report goo.gl/tHlKh7
The second semi-final took place in Clonoulty and saw Sean Treacys advance to the final by the minimum over Cashel King Cormacs. Link to match report

West Junior A Football Championship:
The final group game of the AIB Tipperary West Junior A Football Championship took place on Tuesday last August 11th when Golden/Kilfeacle defeated Arravale Rovers to qualify for the semi-finals. Link to match report

Both Golden/K and Emly finished level on points in the group and cannot be separated on head to head as their game finished level, score difference cannot apply as a walkover was given so a playoff will be required to see who finishes first and second in the group.

AIB Tipperary West JAFC Semis:
Clonoulty/R v loser of Emly/Golden/K playoff
Cappawhite v winner of Emly/Golden/K playoff

County Intermediate Hurling Championship:
The first of the playoff games in Group 2 of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship takes place on Tuesday August 18th between Lattin/Cullen Gaels and Gortnahoe/Glengoole. Throw in is 6:45pm in Clonoulty.
1) Lattin Cullen Gaels v Gortnahoe Glengoole
2) St Marys v the loser of 1)
3) Winner (1) v Winner (2) with the winner topping the table and progressing to the Quarter finals and the loser playing in the Preliminary Quarter Finals.

County Senior Football Championship:
In Group 2 of the County Senior Football Championship Moyle Rovers defeated Ardfinnan. The result means Aherlow Gaels will finish second in the group and qualify for the preliminary ¼ finals. The final game in Group 3 of the County Senior Football Championship between Galtee/Rovers and Moycarkey/Borris is currently fixed for Cashel on Saturday August 22nd with a 6pm throw in. If Galtee Rovers are in the West Intermediate hurling final this game goes back to the 29th.

Tipperary Minor Hurling Team:
Well done to our West representatives and to the Tipperary Minor hurling team and management who defeated Dublin in the All Ireland Minor Hurling semi-final in Croke Park on Sunday last.

Tipperary Senior Hurling Team:
Commiserations to our West representatives and to the Tipperary Senior hurling team and management who were defeated by Galway in the All Ireland Hurling semi-final in Croke Park on Sunday last.
