West Tipperary GAA Scene – April 28th 2015

West Minor Football:
There was one fixture in the Tipperary Print & Design West Minor A Football Championship on Wednesday last with Emly/Sean Treacys getting their 1st victory at the 2nd attempt over Aherlow Gaels.
On Wednesday night next there are two games down for decision. Rockwell/Rosegreen take on Aherlow Gaels in New Inn at 7.15pm while in Emly, Emly/Sean Treacys take on Galtee/Golden also at 7.15pm.
Rockwell/Rosegreen, Galtee/Golden and Aherlow Gaels are all on two points although Galtee/Golden have a game less played. Arravale Rovers currently top the group with 4 points from 3 games while Aherlow Gaels prop up the table having suffered defeat in their first 2 games.

In the Pa Sheehy Butchers West Minor B Football Championship Cappawhite Gaels got the better of Cashel KC on Tuesday night last in Cappawhite by a margin of five points. On Wednesday night next April 29th there is a full round of fixtures with both games starting at 7.15pm. Cappawhite Gaels take on Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams in Cappawhite while Cashel KC take on Clonoulty/R in Cashel.
The final group game between Cappawhite and Clonoulty/R will take place on Tuesday May 5th at 7.15pm in Cashel.

Cappawhite Gaels, Clonoulty/R and Kickhams are all level on 2 points although Kickhams have played a game more. Cashel KC are bottom of the table having lost their opening 2 games.
The top team in the group will qualify for the West Final while the 2nd and 3rd team will play in a semi final.

West Intermediate Hurling Championship:
The Tipperary Credit Union West Intermediate Hurling Championship will start on Monday May 4th when Rockwell Rovers and Sean Treacys clash in the preliminary round of the competition in Clonoulty at 6pm. The winners will play Galtee Rovers in the 1st round while the losers will enter the losers group.

1st: Rnd. Golden/K v Arravale Rovers
1st: Rnd. Prel Winner v Galtee Rovers

The preliminary round loser plus the three 1st round losers go into the losers group with 2 semi finals and a final. The three 1st round winners plus the losers group final winner go into the West Semis (open draw). 7 teams have entered this year’s competition with the hope of becoming West Intermediate champions for 2015

The draws for the West Junior A Football and Junior A & B Hurling were finalised at the last West Board meeting.

West Junior B Hurling Championship: 2 groups-top 2 teams in each group to the semi finals
Group A: Eire Og, Galtee Rovers, Clonoulty/R, Cashel KC and Rosegreen
Group B: Arravale Rovers, Sean Treacys, Solohead, Cappawhite, Golden/K and Lattin/Cullen

West Junior Football Championship: 2 groups-top 2 teams in each group to the semi finals
Group A: Lattin/Cullen, Rosegreen, Solohead, Clonoulty/R and Cappawhite
Group B: Kickhams, Arravale Rovers, Sean Treacys, Golden/K and Emly

West Junior A Hurling Championship: 3 teams-round robin x 2-top 2 teams into final
Group: Kickhams, Clonoulty/R and Emly

West Junior B Hurling League:
A late Joey Lonergan goal from a long range free saw Emly get a share of the spoils against Cashel KC in Group 2 of the West Junior B Hurling league in Cashel last Thursday. The game between Eire Og and Sean Treacys did not take place.

On Tuesday April 28th there is a full round of games all throwing in at 7.15pm. In Group 1 Rosegreen take on Cappawhite in Cappawhite while Clonoulty/R take on Solohead in Clonoulty.
In Group 2 Sean Treacys take on Cashel KC in Cashel while Emly and Eire Og Annacarty Donohill clash in Emly.

Post Primary Schools.
Commiserations to the Abbey CBS on their defeat to Rathmore, Kerry in the Munster Post-Primary Schools Under 16 ½ B football final in Mallow last Thursday.

County Senior Hurling Championship:
Three of our West teams were in action in Round 2 of the County Senior Hurling Championship last weekend and it was a good week all round.

In Group 1 of Roinn 2 Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams got their first win in this year’s campaign when they defeated last year’s County Intermediate Hurling champions Moyne/Templetuohy in Boherlahan on Saturday last.

On Saturday evening in Cashel at 6.30pm in Group 3 of Roinn 1 Eire Og Annacarty Donohill defeated Loughmore/C to get their first win in this year’s competition.

On Sunday in the Ragg in Group 1 of Roinn 1, Clonoulty/R defeated Templederry/K’s by the minimum for the second year in a row, a late John Devane point sealing the 2 points for Clonoulty/R.

On Bank Holiday Monday May 4th in Group 4 of Roinn 2 Cappawhite travel to Newport for a 5pm throw in where they will face Portroe. Cappawhite were narrowly beaten by Moneygall in Round 1 while Portroe shared the points with Silvermines. When the sides clashed last year it was the north side who came away with the 2 points.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship:
In Round 2 of the County Intermediate Championship 6 of the 7 West teams were in action last weekend.
Sean Treacys got their first win of the campaign when they defeated Ballinahinch in Dolla.
The all West clash in Bansha on Saturday evening last saw Lattin/Cullen Gaels get their first win at the second attempt and thus a first defeat of the campaign for Arravale Rovers. In the last five championship meetings between the sides there has now been two wins each and one draw.
In Dundrum on Saturday evening Galtee Rovers suffered defeat at the hand of last year’s beaten County finalists Thurles Sarsfields in Group 3.
In Dundrum on Sunday evening Rockwell Rovers were defeated for the second game in a row going down to Newport. Cashel KC too were defeated for the second game in a row, going down to Shannon Rovers in Templetuohy.
There is another round of Intermediate Hurling planned for the weekend May 9th/10th. More details next week.

County Senior Football Championship
On Wednesday night last in Dundrum, Arravale Rovers came on top in the all West clash with Galtee Rovers in Group 3.
There is another round of Senior Football planned for Tuesday/Wednesday May 5th/6th with all games throwing in at 7.30pm. On Tuesday night Eire Og Annacarty Donohill will go up against Killenaule in Group 1 in Cashel. While on Wednesday in Group 2 Aherlow Gaels clash with Moyle Rovers in Cahir. In Group 3 Arravale Rovers take on Moycarkey/B in Golden while Galtee Rovers take on Loughmore/C in Boherlahan. Further information next week.

All Ireland U21 Football Championship:
Best of luck to the Tipperary U21 Football team who will play Tyrone in the All Ireland U21 Final on Saturday May 2nd in Parnell Park, Dublin at 6pm. The game will also be televised live on TG4. Best of luck to our West representatives and to manager Tommy Toomey, as Tipperary play in a first ever All Ireland U21 Football Final.
