Tipperary Supporters Club All Ireland Tournament Hurling tournaments

From Neil Ó Riain, County Coiste na nÓg PRO

There was a festival of action as our County U 16 A& B panels contested both the 16A John Doyle Perpetual Cup and the Tipperary Supporters B Cup.

Our A panel played in Group 4 and their games were in Holycross. Their opening action against Waterford resulted with Tipp having a three point winning margin on a score of 0-14 to 1-08. Next up was Leinster side Wexford and again Tipp failed to find the net but clinched victory on a score line 0-18 to 1-06. This victory put Tipp into a semi final spot against group 1 winners Cork. The opening period of this contest was a very tight affair with scores being very hard to come by under wet conditions. Tipp were always under pressure and at half time were down by three points on a score line Cork 0-09 Tipp 0-06. In the second period scores were more plentiful but it was Cork that determined the business and qualified for the final on a concluding score of 2-14 to 1-13.

Cork eventually won the final against Kilkenny on a score reading of 3-09 to 1-12. Cork commanded the first half going off the pitch at halftime 3-07 to 1-03. However Kilkenny fought back holding Cork to two points while adding nine points to their tally but time had run out and Cork clinched their second title in this competition.

In the Shield competition Limerick and last year’s Cup winners Dublin qualified for the final. This game provided the first of three finals in Semple Stadium Under wet conditions referee John McCormack got proceedings under way which produced a very low scoring return as both sides finished for an interval score of four points apiece .For most of the second period Limerick appeared to be going for the victory podium but the Dublin side made a great recovery to edge out one point ahead within the last minutes of the game to win the contest on a score reading Dublin 1-06 Limerick 1-05.

In the U16 B Tipperary Supporters Club Cup Tipperary were in Group 2 accompanied by Kerry and Waterford. The games were in Templetuohy and their opening contest was against Waterford. Tipp were in top flight clocking up 4-10 to Waterford’s 1-08. Next up was Kerry who with the strong breeze was marginally ahead at the interval. However in the second period Tipperary saw off the challenge with ease on a concluding score reading Tipperary 4-18 Kerry 2-13. This victory set Tipp for a place in the final.

In the final Tipperary were up against Cork winners of Group 3 in Semple Stadium At the end of the opening ten minutes the sides were on level terms with five points apiece Tipp went one point ahead, but within the closing two minutes a mix up in the Tipp defence gave Cork the opportunity to crash home a goal to lead at half time 1-06 to 0-05.By the twelfth minute of the second period both had added three points to their tally for a score reading Cork 1-08 Tipperary 0-09.Cork added another two points before Tipperary responded with a goal to put the score at Cork 1-10 Tipperary 1-09. This proved to be Tipperary’s last addition to the scoring as Cork added one late point to win the title by two points 1-11 to 1-09.

The officer board of County Coiste na Nog wish to thank all involved in the Tipperary Supporters Club and especially Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer for attending the games in Semple Stadium .We very much appreciate the support received over the last ten years.

Our thanks to the management of Semple Stadium for allowing our three finals to be played on “The Field of Legends” it was a wonderful experience for all the players involved.

A special thanks to the officer board of Mid Coiste na Nog and to the following mid divisional clubs:
Boherlahan Dualla, Drom & Inch, Holycross Ballycahill, J.K.Brackens, Moycarkey-Borris, Moyne Templetuohy and also the Garda College for putting their facilities at our disposal to play the twenty five games. It all went off like clockwork and this was a result of the huge commitment from all the coordinators, pitch and car parking assistants.

To all the brilliant ladies who constantly ensured everyone got plenty of refreshments a very big Míle Búiochas libh go léir.

To all the referees and officials well done on all your games and thanks.
