Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Notes – January 27th 2014

TIPPERARY INTERMEDIATE TEAM

Next Sunday February 2nd is the first game of 2014 for the Tipperary Intermediate team under the new management of John Leahy, Mullinahone and Martin Halpin, Cahir. Defeated All Ireland Junior finalists, Wexford are their opponents and will enjoy home advantage for this round 1 game. Following the trial games held in January there are some new names to look forward to and with a mix of last years experienced panel, the game promises to be an exciting one. The team will be announced on Saturday morning prior to the game and will be available on the Tipperary Ladies Football web site.

MUNSTER SCHOOL LINK PROGRAMME

Ardfinnan and Galtee Rovers are two Tipperary Ladies Football Clubs availing of the Munster School Link Programme. Ardfinnan through the assistance of the Programme will invite Tipperary Ladies Football coach Derry Peters in their two local National Schools, Grange National School and Ardfinnan National School for approximately five weeks to coach the pupils. Notice Boards will be placed in the schools to advertise ladies football activities such as competitions, training and matches. Ardfinnan also, plan to hold a match between the two schools. For the teachers of the schools a Ready, Steady Coach course has been organised.

Galtee Rovers have a five National Schools in their area so their programme will differ slightly. They are organising a league for all the schools to be held in the Tipperary Town complex over a number of weeks. The teachers in the schools will be benefit from the Ready, Steady, Coach coaching course and notice boards will be placed in all five schools to advertise training and matches.

SOUTH EAST SPORTS AWARDS

Best wishes to Mairead Morrissey, Brian Borus who was awarded the South East September Sports Award and will collect her award on Saturday, February 1st in the Mount Wolseley Hotel, Carlow.

POST PRIMARY SCHOOLS INTERPROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT

Four Tipperary Ladies Footballers travelled to St. Loman’s, Mullingar with Munster for the Interprovincial Post Primary Tournament on Saturday last. The day started well when they defeated Ulster in their first game but unfortunately that was to be their only victory with loses against Leinster and Connacht. They secured a place in the Shield Final against Ulster but were not able to secure a victory. Well done to Aisling McCarthy, Jacqui O’Gorman (Rockwell College), Laura Dillon (Coláiste dun Iascaigh) and Maeve O’Gorman (St. Ailbe’s) on making the team trained by Derry Peters (Galtee Rovers) and selector Mairead O’Connor (St. Ailbe’s).

GAELIC4GIRLS

Gaelic4girls, which is the nationwide programme offered by the Ladies Gaelic Football Association to girls aged between 8 and 12, is now open and receiving applications to be part of the 2014 programme. Clubs from all around the country are invited to submit their applications which are available with full details on www.tipperaryladiesfootball.ie

LEVEL 1 COACHING COURSE

Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Association will host the two day Level 1 coaching course for Counties Tipperary and Limerick –

Day 1 – Saturday February 1st, 9.45am – 4.00pm

Day 2 – Saturday March 29th, 9.45am – 4.00pm

Venue – Staker Wallace GAA Club, Martinstown, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick.

All attending the course must have completed the FUNdamentals Ladies Football coaching course and further details are available on the website www.tipperaryladiesfootball.ie
