TIPPERARY U14 TEAM
The Tipperary Ladies Football Under 14 team travelled to Stradbally, Co. Waterford on Sunday last to compete against their hosts in the replay of the Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Association Under 14 B Championship Final. Waterford were hoping to record their fourth Munster Championship title in a row but Tipperary were going to make it difficult for Waterford though and they showed this with two pointed frees from Cailin Napier opening the scoring. Tipperary continued to dominate and in the fourth minute Ruth Butler was rewarded when her ball hit the back of the net for a goal. It was the twelfth minute before Waterford would get their opening score which was a point from Sarah Lacey to be quickly followed with another from Aoife Fitzgerald. In the thirteenth minute a hard tackle involving Ciara Maher, Tipperary saw her sinbinned. The next score was a Tipperary goal by Eva Fennessy but Waterford capitalised with the extra player, adding two goals by Sarah Lacey and a point by Annie Fitzgerald to go in at half time with a point to spare Waterford 2-3 Tipperary 2-2

Tipperary again opened the scoring in the second half with a pointed free from Cailin Napier to equalise the game. Tipperary took the lead in the thirty eighth minute when Caoimhe Ryan pointed and Cailin Napier secured the lead with a further pointed free in the fortieth minute. Waterford were never far behind and a Sarah Lacey point ensured this. Waterford’s Kelly Anne Hogan snatched the lead back when she netted the ball in the forty sixth minute. The final stages of this game was going to be very tense as little separated the teams. Sarah Lacey, Waterford added a point in the forty eighth minute. Points were traded on the fifty fourth and fifty sixth minute and Waterford’s Keely Corbett Barry added another point increasing their lead to four points. Tipperary’s Caitlin Kennedy gave Tipperary some hope with a goal in injury time and from the last bout of action, Angela McGuickan lobbed the bar over the bar to leave the sides level at the end of normal time – Waterford 3-7 Tipperary 3-7.

Tipperary supporters after making the long journey were going to be treated to another twenty minutes of nailbiting ladies football and neither team were going to disappoint. As with all the other throw-in’s of the day Tipperary were first to the score board this time with an Eva Fennessy point. Waterford’s Sarah Lacey got their first point in the fifth minute and Annie Fitzgerald followed with another point. Kelly Anne Hogan, Waterford increased their lead just before half time with a point. Waterford 3-10 Tipperary 3-8

From the throw-in Eva Fennessy pointed for Tipperary and soon afterwards, the travelling side regained the lead, a lead which they had not held since the forty sixth minute of the game, when Ellie Ryan lobbed the Waterford goalie for a goal. In the seventy fifth and sixth minute points were traded but Waterford had the last score of the day a point in the nineteenth minute. The whistle was blown shortly after to a jubilant Tipperary team, mentors and supporters. Tipperary 4-10 Waterford 3-12
