U16 B ALL IRELAND FINAL
Tipperary 3-16 Laois 2-6
Tipperary are deserving champions of the All-Ireland Under 16 Ladies Football Championship following a 13 point victory over Laois at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on Sunday. This Tipperary team since they started their Championship games last April have managed to record some big wins and Sunday last was no different when they took on Laois in the All Ireland Final.

Laois opened the game appearing to be the more dominant side when in the second minute Marie Byrne narrowly missed a goal chance as her low shot rolled past the posts. Laois would open the scoring a minute later with a point by Laura Peake. Tipperary’s response was immediate and emphatic as wing-forward Aoibhe O’Shea converted a goal chance in the fourth minute. Despite this score, Tipperary were playing second fiddle to Laois who added a point from Caoimhe Lalor in the seventh minute followed by a goal from Emily McWey a minute later to take a two point lead. When Tipperary corner-forward Róisín Finnane raised the green flag in the twelfth minute, the game looked set to be a high scoring classic as Tipperary now hit the front by a solitary point.

While the supporters of both counties waited in anticipation for a tight and hard fought game, Tipperary had other ideas. Caoimhe Condon scored a point from play in the fourteenth minute followed quickly by points by Kate Davey and Aoife Corcoran, also from play. With Tipperary now gaining control around the midfield area, Tipperary’s Aoibhe O’Shea punched her second goal in the eighteenth minute widening the margin to seven points. Tipperary continued hold Laois scoreless for the rest of the half while adding a further six points to its score line and by half-time, Tipperary had scored 2-9 without reply to race in to a comprehensive 3-9 to 1-2 interval lead.

Laois reopened the scoring in the second half with a point straight from the restart but Aisling Moloney returned with a point for Tipperary. For the next fifteen minutes the game flowed freely with both sides swapping point for point. As the game entered the final quarter, Tipperary’s retained their 13 point advantage, leading by 3-13 to 1-6. Tipperary continued to work the ball into their forwards with skilful play and some beautiful short passing. As the scoring chances appeared their forwards were able to take advantage and in the final quarter Lara O’Dwyer (1) and Kate Davey (2) added three more points from play to Tipperary’s scoreline. Laois completed the scoring in the final minute when Emily McWey scored a consolation goal. Soon afterwards, the game ended and Tipperary were champions on a final score line of Tipperary 3-16 Laois 2-6.

Thanks to all the supporters who travelled to MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on Sunday last and to the loyal supporters who travelled with the team throughout the Championship. Siobhan Condon, Manager and her management team; Pat Morrissey, Paddy McMeel, Mary O’Shea and Georgina O’Dwyer are to be commended for all their time and work that they have given this team since last November. The players themselves are a remarkable group of players and we wish them all the best and look forward to seeing them all on the field of play again shortly. Congratulations to Aisling Moloney on receiving the Player of the Match Award which was presented by Maire Hickey, LGFA President Elect.
