TIPPERARY U16 TEAM
The Tipperary Under 16 team having started their Munster Championship on Sunday April 12th had defeated Clare and Limerick in the Round games thus earning themselves a place in the Munster B Final with Waterford as their opponents.

Waterford hosted this Final in a very windy Kilmacthomas. They were also the first to score when Chloe Fennell pointed for them in the second minute. Kaeisha Tobin quickly followed with another point and Abbey Dunphy netted the ball in the fifth minute. Another point from Kaeisha Tobin and an Abbey Dunphy, goal gave Waterford the comfortable lead of two goals and three points to Tipperary’s no score. Jean Kelly, changed this and gave Tipperary their first score when the lobbed the ball over Rosie Landers head and under the bar for a goal. Waterford’s Chloe Fennell was not content with losing their margin and netted the ball for them. As we entered the next quarter Kate Davey scored a point and more settled Tipperary team featured. Tipperary aided by the wind in the opening half gained more possession of the ball and now the Waterford backs were having to work harder to keep the ball from their square. Two points from Tipperary’s Anna Carey and Sarah Delaney were all that was traded in this quarter, finishing at half time Waterford 3-5 Tipperary 1-3

Tipperary regrouped at half time and the duo of Kirsty Crotty Ryan and Kate Davey put Waterford’s backs under pressure for the first eight minutes of the second half. Kirsty Crotty Ryan was recording the points and scored four points in the thirty first, third and two points in the thirty eighth minute (one free). Kate Davey used her skill and composure to get two goals in the thirty fourth and seventh minute. Kirsty’s second point gave Tipperary the lead by a point for the first time in the game but this was short lived as in the thirty ninth minute Abbey Dunphy equalised the game. As we entered the final quarter, Waterford’s Abbey Dunphy netted the ball and Chloe Fennell and Kaeisha Tobin scored two points. Tipperary would respond with a Kirsty Crotty Ryan goal in the fifty third minute but Waterford were now in control. Despite being reduced to 14 players when Hannah Power was sin-binned, Waterford scored the last three points of the game through Kate Duggan, Kaeisha Tobin and Abbie Dalton to earn a deserved five point victory – 4-12 Tipperary 4-7.

Thanks to all the supporters who travelled to Kilmacthomas on Sunday last and to the loyal supporters who travelled with the team throughout the Championship. Fergus O’Brien, Manager and his management team; Roisin McGrath and Trish McElwee are to be commended for all their time and work that they have given this team. The players themselves are a remarkable group of players and we wish them all the best and look forward to seeing them all on the field of play again shortly.

TIPPERARY U14 TEAM
Following victories over Limerick and Clare, Tipperary’s Under 14 team earned themselves a place in the Munster U14 B Championship Final and Clonmel Sportsfield was the venue for the game on Thursday last. As a result of Cork’s victory over Waterford in the Munster Under 14 A Final, Waterford were Tipperary’s opponents in the B Final.

Tipperary opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a point from Niamh Ryan. A hard tackle from Tipperary’s Caitlin Kennedy assisted Waterford to put their first score on the score board when Sheena McGluckian pointed the free. Another quick point from Sheena McGluckian in the ninth minute gave Waterford the lead. Tipperary’s Angela McGuickan equalised in the twelfth minute while Niamh Ryan gave Tipperary the lead with a point in the thirteenth minute. As we entered the next quarter Waterford’s Sheena McGluckian equalised again. It was going to be a game where every score counted. For the next five minutes the game ebbed and flowed until in the twentieth minute Waterford’s Sarah Lacey pointed a free. In the twenty third and twenty fifth minutes points were exchanged again until Sarah Lacey, Waterford stretched the lead to two points in the twenty seventh minute. A combination of two points from Tipperary’s Niamh Ryan and Angela McGuickan meant that the teams went in at half time level. Tipperary 0-6 Waterford 0-6.

The supporters were assured an exciting and tense second half if the first half was anything to go by and they were not let down. Waterford’s Sheena McGluckian opened the scoring in the thirty seventh minute with a point which she added to again in the fortieth minute. Sarah Lacey, Waterford extended the margin to three points soon after. Tipperary work tirelessly to get the ball to their forwards but Waterford’s tight defending returned the ball continuously. Tipperary needed a score to settle them again and this came in the forty eighth minute when Angela McGuickan pointed a free. Points were traded in the fifty fifth and fifth second minute but the three point margin remained. Both teams battled well and in the injury time Tipperary were repaid for all their hard work when Caitlin Kennedy scored the only goal of the game to equalise. Soon after the final whistle blew and both teams were rewarded with a replay. Tipperary 1-8 Waterford 0-11.

Best wishes to the team who will travel to Kinnegad next weekend to compete in the All Ireland Ladies Football Under 14 Blitz.
