FBD Insurance County Championships
The final round of games in the FBD Insurance County Senior and Intermediate football championships took place last weekend and provided some very entertaining games as well as one or two surprizes along the way.
In group 1 of the senior football championship. Kilsheelan Kilcash had 5 points to spare over Eire Óg Annacarty Donohill when they met in New Inn on Sunday afternoon, While at the same time in Golden, Clonmel Commercials comfortably overcame Drom & Inch by 3-19 to 0-04 and in doing so joined Kilsheelan Kilcash in the last eight.
In group 2 Ardfinnan travelled to play Moycarkey Borris in Fethard knowing that if they were to have any chance of progressing to the quarter finals, they would need to put up a big score in defeating their opponents and hope that Ballina defeated Loughmore Castleiney in the other game. Ardfinnan went at it from the first whistle as they set up attack after attack, taking every scoring opportunity that came their way as they went on to win by 2-16 to 1-05. However things did not go Ardfinnans way in the other game where despite conceding 3 goals to their opponents, Loughmore Castleiney left Moneygall with the 2 points they needed to progress along side their opponents Ballina in to thw quarter finals. The final score in this one was Loughmore Castleiney 1-13, Ballina 3-05.
In group 3 of the senior football championship, Upperchurch Drombane defeated Arravale Rovers by 2-12 to 2-11 in Dundrum to cement their position at the top of the group, while in Fethard, Killenaule defeated Cahir by 1-15 to 2-05 and in doing so they join the Mid men in the quarter finals.
Finally in group 4, Moyle Rovers who had not been having the best of luck in the championship so far, played Ballyporeen in what was really a must win game for both sides. In the end Moyle Rovers overcame the challenge and came out on top by 2-17 to 0-14. In the other game Rockwell Rovers who had defeated Moyle Rovers in the opening round, played JK Brackens in Holycross and despite a spirited performance, the New Inn side were not able to match the scoring power of the Templemore men who went on to win by 3-13 to 2-07. As a result of both these games, JK Brackens topped the group and are joined in the next round by Moyle Rovers.
In group 1 of the FBD Insurance intermediate football championship, there were wins for Clonmel Commercials over Golden Kilfeacle by 2-09 to 1-10 in New Inn, While Moyne Templetuohy received a walk over from Moyle Rovers in the other game. That now sees Clonmel Commercials top the group with Moyne Templetuohy in second place.
In group 2 there were wins for Grangemockler Ballyneale and Fethard over Fr. Sheehys and Clonmel Óg respectively and that was enough to see the two winners qualify for the quarter finals.
In group 3, CJ Kickhams Mullinahone overcame Aherlow by 1-10 to 0-12 in Cahir, JK Brackens Defeated Loughmore Castleiney by 5-10 to 2-09 in Holycross, while in Boherlahan Galtee Rovers proved to be far too strong for Thurles Sarsfields as the ran out 4-15 to 0-07 winners. As a result of these games the teams progressing out of group 3 which was a 6 team group are, Galtee Rovers, Thurles Sarsfields, CJ Kickhams Mullinahone and Aherlow.

Semple Field Day 2023
What a day we had last Saturday with the staging of thw semple field day which was heli in and around FBD Semple Stadium. The highlight of the day was the under 9 hurling blitz that started at 10am and continued until 4.30pm and saw over 1200 children getting the chance to run out on to the field of legends, play a game on the pitch and then they were taken on a tour of the stadium by members of the Tipperary senior hurling and football panels. A lot of planning went in to the day and huge credit must go to Brian Fogarty from our sponsor’s Fiserv who’s idea it was to hold the day and who put such work in to making sure everything went well. Also great credit goes to games manager Kevin Hally and his team who ran the blitz and made sure that everything went smoothly and wasenjoyed by all those taking part.
