CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY SFC FINAL
Next Sunday November 3 is the biggest day in the County’s club footballing calendar when the Clean Ireland Recycling senior football championship final takes place at Semple Stadium with a 2.30pm throw-in. The final will be refereed by Derek O’Mahoney of Ardfinnan. Aherlow Gaels are an amalgamation of Aherlow and Lattin-Cullen and will be seeking their first title in this form. However, Aherlow have won the title on two previous occasions, 2010 when they defeated Loughmore Castleiney and 2006. Lattin-Cullen have never won the county title although they did win a number of West senior football championships. Loughmore Castleiney will be seeking their 12th title having last won in 2004. They will also be attempting to become the first club to win the county senior hurling and football title double. Irrespective of the result, Loughmore Castleiney will represent Tipperary in the AIB Munster club senior football championship as amalgamations are not allowed play in the competition. With so much at stake and 3 passionate clubs involved, it should be a game worth seeing so we would encourage as many as possible to attend. The O Riain (New) Stand only will be open for the game and admission prices are €10 for adults, €5 for OAPs and students with id and under 16s free.
TIPPTOBERFEST AT CLONMEL PARK HOTEL
Tipperary County Board would like to thank all those who supported the events during the Tipptoberfest at the Clonmel Park Hotel over the October Bank Holiday weekend. We hope everybody enjoyed themselves at whichever events they attended. Thanks are also due to all those who helped in any way with organising, promoting and running the events.
AIB MUNSTER CLUB SH CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL
Commiserations to Loughmore Castleiney on their two point loss by 3-17 to 2-18 against Limerick champions, Na Piarsaigh, in the AIB Munster Club championship quarter final at Semple Stadium on Sunday last. There were a number of strong Tipperary connections that we are aware of in the Na Piarsaigh panel. Corner back, Niall Buckley, is a nephew of County Treasurer, Eamonn Buckley, while substitute, David Sheppard, is son of former Tipperary goalkeeper and captain, Tony Sheppard of Kilruane MacDonaghs.
AIB MUNSTER CLUB INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Congratulations to Ballina on their 1-12 to 0-14 victory over Dromin-Athlacca of Limerick in Bruff on Sunday last in the AIB Munster Intermediate club hurling quarter final. They will play St. Brendan’s of Kerry in the semi-final on Sunday next, November 3 at MacDonagh Park Nenagh. We wish them the best of luck as they attempt to qualify for the Munster final and retain the title in Tipperary following Silvermines’s success last year.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY MINOR FOOTBALL FINAL
The Clean Ireland Recycling county minor A football final between Clonmel Commercials and Drom and Inch will be played at Boherlahan on Sunday next, November 3 at 11.45am with Paddy Russell of Emly as referee. Commercials are seeking their 4th title in a row and 19th in all while Drom and Inch are seeking their first ever title at this grade. Commercials previously won a 4 in a row of minor titles between 1935 and 1938.

CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING JUNIOR A HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The Clean Ireland Recycling Junior A hurling championship final will be played on Saturday next, November 2 at Leahy Park, Cashle between Moycarkey Borris and Knockavila Donaskeigh Kickhams. Johnny McDonnell of Roscrea will be the referee. Knockavilla eventually overcame Knockshegowna with a single point 1-17 to 0-19 victory after extra time in last weekend’s replayed semi-final. Moycarkey-Borris won 1 junior title previously way back in 1954 (then known as number 1 junior and equivalent of today’s intermediate championship) while Knockavilla have never won the junior a championship.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING JUNIOR A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Clean Ireland Recycling junior A football championship final between Drom and Inch and Shannon Rovers will be played at Dolla on Saturday next November 2 at 2.30pm. Sean Lonergan of Moyle Rovers will referee the game. Shannon Rovers are seeking their first title while Drom and Inch are seeking their second having previously won in 1975.
MUNSTER UNDER 17 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Commiserations to the Tipperary under 17 football team on their 1-15 to 0-7 defeat by Clare in the final of the Munster Under 17 football competition for the Daryl Darcy Cup which was played on Bank Holiday Monday last at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick. The cup is named in honour of the former Shannon Rovers and Tipperary player, Daryl Darcy, who was killed in a car accident some years ago.
JACKIE CAHILL RUNNING IN NEW YORK MARATHON
IT recruitment specialists e-Frontiers have donated €1,000 to the Children’s Medical and Research Foundation at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin – as local journalist Jackie Cahill prepares to run the New York City Marathon on their behalf. Representatives of e-Frontiers, who also sponsor Thurles Sarsfields GAA, visited Crumlin last week to present a cheque to CMRF for €1,000. Cahill will wear a tee-shirt around the streets of New York next Sunday bearing the e-Frontiers logo. Brendan Carroll, nephew of former Kilkenny hurling star Ted Carroll, is Managing Director of e-Frontiers. Carroll is a former Tipp senior hurler and was centre back on the Thurles Sarsfields team of 2005 that won the county senior championship for the first time since 1974. Carroll represented Tipperary at left-half back in 1995, 1996 and 1997. He said: “We at e-Frontiers are delighted to be associated with such a worthwhile cause. Based here in Dublin, we are aware of the magnificent work carried out by the people at CMRF and the Children’s Hospital.” We wish Jackie the very best of luck for his marathon run and would encourage as many as possible to sponsor him. CARRICK SWAN RAISE €1,300 FOR CHILDLINE
Well done to Carrick Swan GAA club who recently raised over €1,300 at their Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Morning. They would like to thank everybody who attended this event to support a very worthwhile cause. Childline is a free phone service available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for people up to the age of 18. It’s there to help any young person who is going through a tough time or needs to talk to someone. Young people can talk about whatever they like, and there will be a professional there to listen. They won’t ever give out to the callers and are always on their side. Young people can call Childline on 1800 66 66 66. Childline is a part of the ISPCC (The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) and is funded entirely by the generosity of the Irish public so public support is invaluable. All funds raised will help Childline volunteers answer more calls to vulnerable children and young people in Ireland who have nowhere else to turn. Although Childline answered in excess of 800,000 calls over the past twelve months, over 200,000 went unanswered due to lack of funding. The €1,326.00 raised by Carrick Swan GAA Club will help reduce the number of unanswered calls in 2014. Carrick Swan would like to thank all their helpers and sponsors and is very appreciative of all the generosity and support received for this event. Mary Barrett, Childrens Officer of the club, hopes to make this an annual event.
SYMPATHY
Tipperary County Board would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the family of Galway hurler, Niall Donohue, who died tragically last week and also to his club, Kilbeacanty, and the Galway hurling panel and management. We also extend our sympathy to the family of former Minister, Noel Davern, who died at the weekend. Ar dheis De go raibh a anamacha uasal.
