Clean Ireland Recycling Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship Final
Congratulations to Thurles Sarsfields who defeated Loughmore – Castleiney by 2-22 to 3-11 to regain the county senior hurling title in Semple Stadium last Sunday. This was Sarsfields fourth title in six seasons and their 33rd in all as they set up a Munster Club SHC semi-final against Clare kingpins Cratloe in Ennis next Sunday. Pa Bourke played a captain’s part by scoring 1-3, while Denis Maher and Aidan McCormack chipped in with 0-5 apiece. Ritchie Ruth also bagged 0-4 from play following his introduction early in the second half as the Blues proved too strong for their Mid Tipp divisional rivals. Stephen Cahill was awarded Man of the Match.
Clean Ireland Recycling County Intermediate Hurling Championship Final
Congratulations to Moyne–Templetuohy who avenged last year’s county final defeat to Ballina by defeating Thurles Sarssfields in the county intermediate hurling championship final in Semple Stadium last Sunday by 1-18 to 0-10. This was a great display by the boys in green and gold and they got off to a great start and lead Sarsfields at the interval by 1-10 to 0-6. Despite Sarsfields trying everything to get back into the game in the second half Moyne–Templetuohy continued to dominate and ran out winners by 11 points. This was a great win for the club who will now be back in the senior grade next year.

Clonoulty–Rossmore 1989 Team Honoured
The 1989 Clonoulty-Rossmore team which won the County Senior Hurling Final were honoured last Sunday in Semple Stadium. 1989 was a tremendous year for the club as they captured the West Senior Hurling Title for the first time since 1951. Their route to the county final began with a victory over Golden Kilfeacle in the West Quarter Final, which was followed with a victory in the semi final over their arch rivals Knockavilla Kickhams. Cappawhite were their opponents in the West Final and their reward for this victory was a clash with the County Champions of the previous year Loughmore-Castleiney. The dethroning of the champions was a big lift to the club and it gave them belief and confidence that they could go all the way. They went on to defeat Toomevara in the semi – final before playing their near neighbours Holycross Ballycahill in the final where they defeated them on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-9. Congratulations to Clonoulty–Rossmore and I hope they enjoyed their day out

New book reveals Tipp’s anguish during hurling ‘Famine’ years
Three times Tipperary All-Star Tadhg O’Connor, who captained Tipperary to win the 1971 All-Ireland – the last before the eighteen year famine – has revealed in a new book that had the backdoor system been in place back then, Tipperary would have won more All-Ireland titles.
‘Captains of the Premier Ship’ which was penned by local journalist Noel Dundon of The Tipperary Star and which is to be launched on Saturday November 15th in St Patrick’s College in Thurles by Nicky English, features the Roscrea man stating that while Tipperary were just outside the standard in the straight knockout system, a backdoor would have given them vital extra games, and, crucially, a chance to make amends.
A 320 page history of the twenty one All-Ireland winning senior hurling captains from the county, the book is a record of the twenty six All-Ireland titles captured and the men who led Tipperary to them. Gaels from all over Tipperary and further afield are invited to come along to the launch.
All profits from the publication are going to the mental health charity AWARE.
