2023 Munster Senior Hurling Championship

Our senior hurlers will play their second game of this year’s Munster senior hurling championship this Saturday evening in Pairc Ui Chaoimh at 7pm when Cork will be the opponents in what is expected to be a tough battle by the banks of the lee. Having overcome a stern test in Ennis in Round 1, the players and team management will know very well that Cork who will be in flying form following their opening round victory over Waterford, will provide a very different test as they will also be aiming to keep their winning run going. Our senior men’s team is not the only team in Munster championship action in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday as it will also play host to the premier county’s senior Camogie team who will play Waterford in the Munster semi final at 4.30pm. Tipperary GAA and Tipperary Camogie boards are asking all Tipperary supporters to make a special effort to get along to Pairc Ui Chaoimh and support our ladies in what will be a very big game for them. Your ticket gives you entry to both games so why not make use of it and show your support for the Camogie team who will be hoping to start the evening off on a winning note ahead of the hurling game.

Tickets for the double header are now available to purchase online via the link below and also from selected Centra and SuperValu stores.

I ask all clubs to encourage your members to attend both games and show their support for both teams next Saturday evening. https://www.ticketmaster.ie/event/18005D63DC7967CE

Munster Under 20 Hurling Championship Round 5

Our under 20 hurlers played Waterford in the final group game of the competition last Friday evening in FBD Semple Stadium and while Waterford did provide a stern test of Brendan Cummins men, Tipperary did eventually prove to be too strong for their opponents, winning by 3-26 to 3-12 and in doing so booked their place in this year’s semi finals where they will play Clare in FBD Semple Stadium next Monday evening at 7.30pm.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship

Our minor hurlers played their final game of the championship last Tuesday evening (April 25th) when they took on Waterford in FBD Semple Stadium. With nothing more than pride at stake The players recorded a well deserved 1-20 to 1-12 win to end the year on a winning note. We thank all of the players for their hard work and commitment over the last number of months and I have no doubt thata number of them may well feature for Tipperary at under 20 level in the coming years. Thanks also to Manager James Woodlock and his management team who have shown outstanding leadership to this group of young men, which again I have no doubt will stand to them as they continue on their GAA careers at both club and county level in the coming years.

Munster Minor Football Championship

Our minor footballers made it three out of three last Thursday evening when they defeated Clare in their final group game of the competition by 0-12 to 0-08 and in doing so have qualified for both the phase 1 final and also the Munster semi finals. The phase 1 final is scheduled to take place on May 11th when Limerick will be the opponents.

New GAA Communications Strategy published

The GAA has published a new three-year Communications Plan to cover the period 2023-2026 as part of its overall organisational strategy ‘Aontas 2026 – Towards One GAA For All.’

The plan identified four themes – Better Connections with GAA Membership and Community; More Strategic and Proactive Communications; Greater Clarity as to who is telling the GAA Story and Modernising Media Engagement – as part of its engagement process.

Three action areas have emerged to address these themes; Deepen the Connection between the GAA and its Membership and Wider Community; Enhance and Continue to Promote the Reputation of the GAA; Tell the Story of the GAA in New and Better Ways.

The area of Communications was one of the six pillars of ‘Aontas’ and the timelines for both plans run concurrently.

Uachtarán CLG Larry McCarthy said: “I welcome the publication of a new communications plan for the Association, a plan that, on implementation, will benefit our clubs our counties, our provinces, and the organisation as a whole.

“Effective communication lies at the heart of any efficient and well-functioning organisation. It runs through every strand of the GAA and has done since our earliest days. It does not belong to one office holder or one department – its importance lies in its impact on how we organise our games and our activities and the image we project of the GAA.

“The purpose of the plan was to review how we are currently set up; to clearly define the challenges and obstacles and to ensure that the GAA communications strategy reflects the cutting edge, volunteer-led, amateur sport organisation that we are.”

GAA Director of Communications Alan Milton added: “The events and challenges of recent years laid bare the importance of effective communications and challenged the GAA in many ways, including in that same area.

“It provided a reboot of sorts but also underlined the need to ensure our approach to communicating with our members and the wider public continues to evolve to fully meet our needs.

“The research findings reaffirm the growth of digital and the very real need for us to remain connected to the wider membership.

“They also underline the importance of proactive, strategic and timely communications with a particular emphasis on catering for the different groupings with the Gaelic games family, not least our young members.”
