Munster Senior Hurling Championship
There was huge disappointment for our Senior Hurlers last Sunday afternoon as they were heavily defeated by Cork in Round 4 of the competition. Having played reasonably well in the opening half, it looked as if it was all to play for in the second half but Cork came out firing from all cylinders and unfortunately our players were not able to match their opponents on the day. In the end Cork ran out 4-30 to 1-21 winners and in the process ended Tipperary’s hopes of progression.

There have been six Munster championship encounters between the Banner and the Premier counties, hosted at the Field of Legends. Tipperary won in 1929,1984 & 1985, while Clare were victorious in 1928, 2018 & 2022. Sunday’s game will be the first meeting of these neighbouring counties, in the month of May, since Clare won a Provincial quarter final, at Super Valu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, on May 18th, 2003.
We would encourage as many Tipperary supporters as possible to head to Thurles on Sunday afternoon and show your support for our Senior Hurling team.
2024 Tailteann Cup
Our Senior Footballers poor run of form continued last Saturday afternoon in FBD Semple Stadium as they had to give way to a much better Sligo side in Round 2 of the Tailteann Cup, losing by 3-22 to 1-12.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship
The TUS Gaelic Grounds hosted last Monday evenings Munster Minor Hurling Final that saw James Woodlocks men facing Clare. Having already lost to their opponents in the group stages, Tipperary were well aware of the challenge that faced them on the night. To their credit they rose to the challenge and emerged victorious on a full time score of 2-17 to 0-16. The scenes at the final whistle were a joy to behold and have given Tipperary people everywhere a great lift.
Tipperary are now through to the All Ireland semi finals which will take place in a few short weeks time.

All Ireland Minor Football Championship Tier 3 Quarter Final
Having performed very well in the Munster Championship and reaching the provincial semi final. our Minor Footballers will play Westmeath in the new All Ireland Minor Football Tier 3 competition this Saturday afternoon at 2pm in Templetuohy. We wish the players and management the best of luck.
Munster Under 20 Hurling Championship
All roads will lead to the TUS Gaelic Grounds once more this Friday evening, May 24th where our under 20 Hurlers will play Cork in the Munster Final. Having already defeated the leesiders in the group stages, Brendan Cummins and his players will know only too well that their opponents will head to Limerick looking for revenge. The game on Friday evening will have an 8pm throw in and we would encourage all Tipperary supporters both young and old to get to this game and show some support for the blue and gold. Tickets are now available via the ticket section of the Munster GAA website and also in selected Centra and Supervalu stores.

Heritage week 2024
To mark the 140th anniversary of the GAA, the Association is supporting the official National Heritage Week festival which takes place from August 17-25. The theme this year is ‘Connections, Routes and Networks’ and celebrates Ireland’s cultural, built and national heritage. In 2018 Hurling and Camogie were granted UNESCO’s prestigious Intangible Cultural Heritage status and work has commenced on having Gaelic football and Ladies Gaelic Football also added to this list. Our great games aside, there are lots of ways that the community strength and the role the Association plays in promoting our heritage can be celebrated as part of National Heritage Week in August. Here are some simple, sample ideas. 1. OPEN DAY: Have an open day at your clubrooms. Invite members of the community to come and bring along items or objects related to the GAA. This can be everything from hurls to medals to jerseys to autographs. Participants will be invited to tell each other the story of their object. Have the open day aimed at those that are new to the community and/or not regular GAA followers to showcase all the sports of the GAA and its history.
- ORAL HISTORY PROJECT: Invite the ICAN network to come to a club to collect oral history about the club, the parish, important games the parish club participated in and stories from those games. Why not follow the advice of the GAA Generations project and encourage younger members to record the oral history of older members of the club and community to strengthen the bond of identity and connection. PHOTO EXHIBITION: Invite club members and the community to submit photos from activities in the club and at games and display as part of a photo exhibition. 4. HOST A TALK. Invite a local historian to speak on the history of the GAA in your area of your county. The heritage of local clubs, and how the game developed in your area. Why does your club wear those colours? What’s the story behind your club name? Where did it play its first matches? Who founded the club? 5. SCÓR. Have a Scór concert with a focus on local traditional songs or songs about the GAA club. - CREATE A CLUB HISTORY AND ARCHIVE. This can be done as a digital project. Invite members of the club to explore the club history and create a presentation that can be recorded as a video or presented live. Consider the Heritage Council Community Heritage Grant Scheme for this and other ideas. Start a club archive by exploring and bringing together minute books, old documents, plans etc related to the club. Invite old and young members of the club to explore this new archive. 7. PLAY GAMES. Nothing celebrates the GAA more than the playing of games. Poc fada, cic fada, Dads and Lads, Gaelic4Mothers&Others. Social hurling and camogie. Walking indoor football for senior citizens. Wheelchair hurling demo. GAA For All inclusion activities. All of these offer the opportunity to get people out, get people involved and get people active and celebrate the GAA and our cultural heritage.
Tipperary Handball News
The 60×30 Championships are in full swing at Present with County/Provincial & National Competitions being played. Tipperary players are contesting many grades and the All -Ireland Doubles Semi Finals are down for next Weekend. In the Senior Softball Doubles Gerome Cahill & Rory Grace Defeated Love & Mahon from Kilkenny but were beaten in the Q/F by Brian Carroll & Gary Mc Connell from Meath 21/14, 21/15. Ballina hosted the Q/F where Eoin Kennedy & Karl Browne from Dublin defeated Domnic Lynch & Jack O Shea from Kerry 21/14, 21/9. In the Junior B Singles County Final Patrick Delaney from Cashel defeated Aiden O Flaherty Youghalarra 21/12, 18/21, 11/3. Tipp players were out of luck in 3 Munster Finals losing 2 of them in Tie Breaks. In the Ladies Junior B Doubles in Bohermore Karen Monaghan & Ann Marie Ryan made a comeback after many years out of Handball and gave the young guns from Clare Chloe Philpott & Amber Nolan a bit of a fright taking the final to a tie break. they won the first 21/2, lost the second 21/14 and lost the Tie Break 11/5. Also in Bohermore John Casey & Ger Monaghan were up against Shane Walsh & Mike Baker from Clare. Ger carried an injury from the semi final and Clare dft Tipp 21/4, 21/10. In the Junior Doubles in Hospital Noel Moroney & Declan Gleeson were un lucky to lose out in a tie Break in an all Tipperary Munster Final. Ned Reilly & Kevin Dempsey won 21/20, 1/21, 11/6.
