Tipperary Minor Hurling Management
Paul Collins and his management team recently informed Tipperary County Board that they would not be seeking reappointment following their sides loss to Limerick in the 2020 Munster minor hurling final. Before his appointment to the position of manager the Drom & Inch man spent a term as minor hurling selector under Tommy Dunne which saw them winning the Munster Championship in 2018. Paul’s term as Manager comes to an end following his sides narrow loss to Limerick in this years Munster Championship Final. Tipperary GAA County Board wish to thank Paul and his management team of Shane McGrath, Ger Ryan Bawn and Tony Shelly, who have all shown outstanding commitment and dedication to Tipperary GAA since their appointment and we wish them well in the future.
Tipperary County Board are currently in the process of appointing a new management team for the coming year and it is expected that this process will be concluded in the near future.
Health & Wellbeing
The major role played by the GAA in supporting health and wellbeing in local communities was celebrated at the virtual Healthy Club Conference held on January 23rd. Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan delivered the keynote address during which he commended the organisation on its leadership in supporting the national and community response to Covid 19.
Other guest speakers on the day included Kate McDaid nutrition coach with the Dublin ladies and Longford senior men’s football teams, Joanne O’Riordan journalist and former Wexford star Diarmuid Lyng. Delegates were given the opportunity to participate in workshops on healthy eating, social games, diversity and inclusion and youth leadership. Information regarding participation in the project as well as advice on the many initiatives available to clubs through the GAA Community & Health Department was also given.
Dates for online Healthy Club Officer training are being finalised clubs are asked to put at least one name forward for this event by emailing chair.hwc.tipperary@gaa.ie

Best wishes Samantha
We extend our good wishes on her retirement from intercounty ladies football to Samantha Lambert who announced her decision last weekend. Samantha had the honour of captaining Tipperary to All Ireland Intermediate success in 2017 and again in 2019 which is a great achievement. The Ardfinnan player has proven herself to be a roll model for so many young girls and there is no doubt but that she has a lot more to offer ladies football in the coming years.
Scór News
It has been over ten long months now since Covid 19 hit Irish shores and lockdown became a thing in Ireland. As a result, and like everything else in Irish life, the Scór GAA calendar has been turned upside down.
With the Scór Sinsir 2020 finals, which were due to take place back way back in April, postponed and uncertainty over the continuation of Scór competition in the near future, the Scór family has been treated to much activity, albeit in a new and virtual kind of way. Níl aon cheist faoi sin!
Among the various projects undertaken on-line since last March have been events such as ‘Virtual Scór’ that attracted hundreds of thousands of social media interactions and which led to collaborations and plaudits from stars in the music world such as Dana and Nathan Carter. Other such on-line events have included quizzes form Scór Chonnacht, ‘Culture Night 2020’ as well other talent nights where the Scór GAA family got a chance to come together on the Scór Facebook page to showcase their talents.
At present Bronagh Lennon, who is very well known in Scór circles, is conducting on-line ‘Amhránaíocht Aonair’ or solo singing workshops on behalf of Scór that include three classes for three different age groups, once a week and over four weeks. With over 180 people, young and old, registered for the online classes Bronagh was not overly surprised by the huge interested expressed in the workshops. Bronagh has been a regular participant in Scór for many years and was part of a successful All-Ireland winning ballad group. In the GAA world, players who played at the highest level often dominate managerial and coaching positions on inter-county set-ups and see such participation as a way of giving back. Bronagh sees her own roll in encouraging participation in Scór in a similar way.
Workshops in other Scór disciplines are currently being considered as well as a youth forum and future on-line quizzes. To keep up to date with all the Scór activity visit the Irish and cultural section of the GAA’s website or, alternatively, visit Scór’s facebook page for more details.
