Handball News
It was a big weekend for Ladies Handball with Clare hosting the She’s Ace Festival. There was a great buzz around all the venues in which we saw many grades including Ladies Open, Ladies B, Juveniles , Mothers & Others & Mothers and Daughters Compete. The hospitality and banter at every venue made it a fantastic event and so many new friendships were made. Tipperary were well represented by Loch Eorna & Ballina Clubs. In the 17 & Under Sarah Williams Loch Eorna was in a tough group in Tuamgraney and although playing well the eventual winner Claire Minogue came out of her Group. In the 15 & Under Erin Neville Was in a group of 4 in Shannon and after some great battles she won two of her three games but failed on points to go forward to the knockout stages. In the 11& Under Emily Monaghan Ballina & Ella Slattery also done very well in their games in Clarecastle. In the Mothers & Others section we had Players competing for the first time . Evlyn Larkin , Fiona Ward & Mary Joyce although not going forward to the Knockout stages they had some great games , some wins and had a great time. In the Ladies B Karen Monaghan , Cliona Collins & Fidelma Ryan Competed. Cliona & Karen ended up in the same Group in Clooney Quinn with Fidelma in Clarecastle. All played very well winning group games but failed to reach semi Final Stage. In the Mothers & Daughters event we had three generations of the Collins Family competing with Mary & Cliona in the A Competition & Karen Monaghan & Emily Monaghan in the B Comprtition.. Karen & Emily were in Clooney Quinn and playing some great handball were unlucky to narrowly lose the quarter final to the eventual winners. All roads led to Tuamgraney for the Mother & Daughters A Competition. In a packed Gallery which saw Martina Mc Mahon from Limerick take the Senior Title Mary & Cliona Collins lined out for the Semi Final of the Mother & Daughter event. They were up against the Considine’s from Clare The crowd were entertained with a thrilling game which saw some great rallies and with the scores level throughout it was anybody’s game right to the end. The Ballina Ladies finally served out the last aces to go forward to the Final. In the Final they were up against a very strong team of the Philpot’s from Clare. Although playing very well they had to settle for Silver Medals after a very enjoyable event. It was great to see so many supporters at all the venues cheering on our ladies. They were presented with their medals by the Handball President Conor Mc Donnell.
The North Tipperary Juvenile Championships have kicked off with some great games in Nenagh . The U13 Singles was a thriller with the fancied Josh O Mahony from Newport losing out to Liam White from Loch Eorna. Josh won the first 15/13 but a great comeback by Liam in the second saw him win 15/7. Liam made no mistake in the third winning 15/4. In the U10s Semi Final Sean Mc Keogh from Silvermines had a good win over Donnacha Cahill from Loch Eorna winning 11/3, 11/3. In the second semi final in U10 there was to be another shock with William Faulkner from Newport defeated by Cathal Monaghan from Ballina. William took the first 11/9 but a great display by Cathal saw him take the second 11/7 to win on overall aces. The North Championships continue this week with the County Finals in two weeks time.
Health and Wellbeing
Thankfully the evening stretch has returned the weather has improved and it’s great to see the many Tipperary clubs back in action participating in Ireland Lights Up & the Irish Life Steps Challenge. Dry January is also in full swing remember to keep encouraging anyone completing the event to keep it going till the end of the month. It is worth remembering this initiative can be completed anytime clubs might consider this challenge later in the year as part of a Healthy Club wellbeing promotion.

The Programme is structured around the themes of Energy, Water, Waste, Biodiversity and Travel & Transport and is resourced with an online toolkit produced in partnership with local authorities and expert partners, including the Sustainable energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the Local Authorities Water Programme (LAWPRo) and the Regional Waste Authorities. The toolkit is available at https://learning.gaa.ie/GreenClub and includes numerous case studies of Clubs who have successfully implemented actions, improving their facilities and reducing their impact on the environment.
