Waterford Crystal SH

Tipperary had a 14 point victory over Kerry in the Quarter Final of the Waterford Crystal Cup SH competition at Austin Stack Park, Tralee last Sunday, winning by 2-16 to 0-8. The heavy rain and cold weather made hurling difficult as Kerry proved stubborn opposition early on, but goals by Michael Cahill and Eoin Kelly in the second half put the game out of reach. Next Sunday Tipp play the semi final against UL in MacDonagh Park, Nenagh, at 2pm. Tipperary’s first Allianz League outing is at home to Waterford under lights in Semple Stadium on Saturday night February 15th. See below details of Season Ticket still available.

Under 21 Football

Tipp U21 Footballers are currently playing in the Hastings Cup – a competition organized by Longford County Board and last Saturday lost the third round by 0-14 to 0-8 against Meath in Dr Morris Park. As a result of not finishing on top of their group, Tipp failed to qualify for the semi finals but next Sat we contest the Shield Final against Mayo in Longford.

County Intermediate Hurling League Final

The 2013 IH League final replay was finally concluded last Saturday in The Ragg and ended in victory for Moyne Templetuohy with the score 1-8 to Drom-Inch’s 0-6. This game brings the curtain down on the 2013 Co. games programme.

Post Primary Schools News

It was a disappointing week for Tipperary schools in the Harty Cup quarter finals as Thurles CBS lost to Rochestown on Wed and Our Ladys, Templemore bit the dust against Ard Scoil Rís, Limerick on Fri in Nenagh. Our interest now lies in the Munster “B” hurling where three Tipp schools have reached the semi finals. In the quarter finals last Wed, Cashel CC beat Borrisokane CC in Templemore, St Caimins Shannon lost to St Josephs Kilmallock in Rathkeale, St Josephs Tulla lost to St Mary Newport in Meelick and Roscrea CC beat St Annes Killaloe in Boher. The semi finals take place weekend Feb 1st and will see St Marys Newport play Roscrea CC and Cashel CC against St Josephs Kilmallock.

Club Strategic Plans

Co Board is putting a big emphasis on clubs producing 3-5 year plans as soon as possible. So far just ten clubs, Nenagh Eire Óg, Newport, Upperchurch Drombane, Moyne Templetuohy, Kilsheelan-Kilcash, Moyle Rovers, Carrick Swans, Emly, Eire Óg Anacarthy and Galtee Rovers have completed their plans. Seven further clubs, Burgess, J K Brackens, Kilruane McDonagh’s, Borrisileigh, Gortnahoe-Glengoole, Ballybacon-Grange, and Newcastle have all held workshops so they are on the way. The remaining clubs are reminded that the Co Development Committee has facilitators who will visit clubs and assist them in completing the plan. There is no need for a big elaborate booklet, just a few pages with your targets laid out. For immediate assistance contact the Co Development Officer, Jimmy Minogue, 086-3704584.

North Tipperary Local Sports Partnership is hosting an information evening on Garda Vetting for sports organisations and clubs on Wednesday 29th January from 6.30 -8.30pm in Nenagh Vocational School.Under the National Vetting Bureau Act 2012, all sport club members i.e. coaches, trainers, mentors etc… who provide sports activities to children and persons who are in direct contact with children or vulnerable persons on an on-going and regular basis need to be vetted. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will have a greater understanding of how to manage the reference checking process including Garda Vetting for volunteers. Cost per participant for this 2 hour workshop is €10. Workshops are limited to 30 attendees and places must be booked in advance. If a club/clubs wish to cluster together for a workshop, North Tipperary LSP will facilitate this workshop in the club’s meeting room. Participants must be over 18 years of age.
