Reconvened Election Vice Chairperson Tipperary GAA
The reconvened election for Vice Chairperson Tipperary GAA will take place on Tues 23rd Jan 2024 in the Dome Thurles. The voting station in the Dome Thurles will be open to delegates between the hours of 6:30pm – 7:45pm. All those eligible to vote have been posted out their pass (postal address used will be same as what was submitted on 2023 Club Affiliation forms). If you have not yet received your voting pass, please email this address.
On arrival to the Dome only those permitted to vote ,members of the County Board Executive and the two candidates will be granted access to the Dome. All Divisional Secretaries/Chairpersons will be positioned at four different corners of the Dome. You will be directed to your respective Divisional station where you will present your pass and register. Once registered you will move to the next station where you will be handed one vote by a member of the County Executive. You will then move forward to cast your vote in privacy. At 7:45pm the voting station will close and all votes will be collected by the Divisional Secretaries and counted under the supervision of a member of Tipperary County Council.
Each club can send two representatives to vote plus their County Board Representative. If for some reason any of the aforementioned cannot attend they may send a proxy.
McGrath Cup Senior Football League
Tipperary senior footballers recorder their first win of 2024 thanks to a well deserved 1-11 to 0-10 victory over Limerick in Templetuohy last Sunday afternoon. Manager Paul Kelly and his management team used the game to give as many members of the panel the opportunity to get game time and put their hand up for a place on the league panel which will be named in the coming weeks. With that in mind the focus of the footballers will now turn to their first round league game which will be against Carlow on Saturday January 27th in FBD Semple Stadium at 6pm.
Coop Superstores Munster Hurling League
Our senior hurlers welcomed Kerry to MacDonagh Park in Nenagh last Sunday afternoon for their second game in the Coop Superstores Munster senior hurling league. This was a very competitive game of hurling with players on both teams bringing a very high level of physicality and effort to the field. Like his counterpart with the footballers, Liam Cahill used the game to bring some new blood to the table and afford them the opportunity to put their hands up for a place on the squad. In the end Tipperary came away with the win by virtue of a 1-28 to 1-14 win.
Next up for the senior hurlers will be a clash with All Ireland champions Limerick who come to FBD Semple Stadium on Sunday January 28th for the Dillon Quirke Foundation fundraiser. Full details of this game will be published in the coming days.
TUS Corn an Artaigh Quarter-Finals
Congratulations to Thurles CBS and Nenagh CBS who both won their respective Quarter Final games in the Harty Cup last week and have now qualified for this year’s semi finals.
In Bansha, Nenagh CBS had a very comfortable 2-16 to 0-06 win over CBC, Cork while in Meelic, Thurles CBS recorded a 2-21 to 1-17 win over St Flannans.
The semi finals of the competition take place this coming Saturday January 20th and will see Thurles CBS taking on Árdscoil Ris Limerick in Kilmallock at 12.30pm. While in Cappamore at 2pm, Nenagh CBS will be looking to reach the final by overcoming their opponents Scoil Na mBraithre. WE extend our good wishes to both Tipperary schools as we look forward to what will surely be two great games of hurling that will hopefully result in an all Tipperary final.
Health & Wellbeing
Let’s Keep Tipperary Walking, it is not too late to join in the Irish Life Every Steps Counts Challenge. Clubs and communities throughout the county are participating in the Challenge in association with Ireland Lights Up. Individuals can join the Challenge through their local club / community or by downloading the Irish Life App.
A reminder to clubs to appoint a Healthy Club / Wellbeing Officer. Training for Healthy Club Officer’s takes place online on February 22nd. Training for Critical Incident Planning will also be available online on February 7th. Links for both will be available shortly.
Ciara Gaynor to feature on Laochra Gael
Between 1999 and 2005, Ciara Gaynor was a cornerstone of Tipperary’s formidable defensive unit, one of the best camogie teams of all time. A player who won five All-Ireland medals and the player of the year award in 2003, Ciara and her team inspired a generation of young Tipperary girls to follow their dreams. The years of her youth, led by her father Len, stood with Ciara and at nineteen years old she already had her first All-Ireland senior medal. But after winning the 3rd Final in a row, an incident that occurred in her professional life as a Guard put the prospect of her fourth championship in a row in jeopardy. After the match in 2005, with 5 Finals under her belt, Ciara announced her retirement. She focused her newfound energy on family life and her lifelong love of horses. Today Ciara’s competitive spirit is embedded in one of the most demanding global sporting events – IRONMAN. Not surprisingly, she qualified for the 2023 World Championships in Hawaii. In the Gael Linn Hosted by Tuamgraney in Clare Ava Carey & Rhys Carey represented Tipperary. They were beaten by Kilkishen. Kilkishen reached the final bit were beaten by Tuamgraney. The Boys North Tipperary finals were hosted by Youghalarra in Kilcoleman.

GAA urges communities to ‘Stand Strong’ with women who have suffered abuse
This February, Women’s Aid and Allianz Insurance are asking people across Ireland to take part in a powerful demonstration of solidarity and support for those subjected to abuse. The GAA is hosting the launch and sharing it with the GAA community across Ireland.
The campaign aims to raise awareness and essential funds for the thousands of women every year that contact Women’s Aid for support. It’s an action that requires no training or preparation. Just Stand Strong in the warrior yoga pose, donate or fundraise with colleagues, family, or friends, and share pictures on social media using the campaign hashtag #WAStandStrong.
To thank those who show their support, Women’s Aid are offering some exclusive campaign goodies such as retro sweatbands and temporary tattoos to people that sign up early via www.standstrong.ie and there is other campaign merchandise items on offer for top fundraisers. Due to the generous support of Allianz, all money raised will go directly to Women’s Aid supporting women subjected to domestic abuse.
Speaking at the launch of Stand Strong 2024, Geoff Sparling, Chief Customer Officer with Allianz added: “Protection is at the core of insurance, and Allianz’s purpose is securing people’s future, and giving them courage for what is ahead. We are delighted to support Stand Strong once again this year which supports the vital work of Women’s Aid. We want to inspire people across Ireland to take a moment out of their day to show solidarity, raise vital funds and raise awareness. We believe strongly that abuse is never acceptable, and we are committed to doing our part to spread that message.”
Larry McCarthy, Uachtarán Chumann Lúthcleas Gael, speaking at the launch at Croke Park said: “We are delighted to support Stand Strong and work with our partners Women’s Aid and Allianz Insurance. On the basis that we need to improve the circumstances of our daughters, our sisters, and our mothers, at the Annual GAA Congress we asked all our clubs to take the time to talk to their teams about respecting their female friends. It was a simple uncomplicated message, Respect Women. The Stand Strong message is similarly uncomplicated. We encourage as many people as possible, particularly GAA members, to take part.”

- Stand Strong: In the warrior yoga pose. There’ll be a livestream you can access from February 1 st, but you can take the pose any time in February and wherever you like.
- Support: Contribute to the cause by donating or sharing your fundraising page.
- Share: Take a picture of you standing strong in the warrior pose and share on social media using #WAStandStrong.
